In Real World: A mom is getting her daughter ready for bed. The daughter asks her to read a Princess story which she often asks every night, but the mom decides maybe it's time to read another story. A book called The Evil Queen, but the daughter doesn't like the evil Queen because she's mean and scary. She knows the story the evil Queen wants to kill the Princess because she was jealous of her beauty. The mom explains that is one side of the story there are two sides. The daughter doesn't understand, how could there be two sides? The evil Queen is evil for a reason as mom argues. She starts to read the book:
Once upon a time, in a magical world called Enchantment. In the woods we see trees singing to each other in happy tone. The animals are singing along. A young girl whos' striking and pure. Gorgeous black hair, olive skin, wearing a robe. She walks around acknowledging every living thing singing. She sings along as well with a high pitch note.
The daughter interrupts wondering if the young girl is a Princess because all Princesses start off singing to magical creatures. Mom tells her be patient. She continues:
In the woods, the young girl finishes singing to the animals and the trees. She sits at a log wondering if she will ever find her handsome Prince. A squirrel tells her how she could not because she's so beautiful. She smiles. She wonders if he will enjoy singing with her in the woods or he might find it odd. She hears a horse carriage and gets up right away. A horse comes in carrying a large carriage. Inside is a handsome Prince.
The daughter interrupts again. Now, this is definitely a Princess story. It has to be Snow White or Aurora, right? Mom, again, reminds her to keep listening:
The prince approaches the young girl he can't be more than 2 years older. He smiles at her introducing himself as Prince Liam. She introduces herself as Molly. They shake hands. He sits next to her asking why he's never seen her at one of his balls. She answers because her mother refuses to take her. He is going to change that and ask to come tonight. She's so excited and accepts his offer. He tries to pick one of the flowers, hands it to her, and heads back inside the carriage. The servant controlling the horse signals the horse to move along. Prince Liam waves goodbye at the young girl, she waves back. Things are starting to go according to plan.
Molly walks home. She lives in a hut with her mother who's cooking something in the cauldron. Her mother is rather short, scary looking with a robe covering her face. Her mother asks where Molly has been. Molly answers she was at the woods and met a Prince. Her mother laughing hysterically. There's no way a Prince will set foot in the woods. But Molly swears he did and invited her to the ball tonight. Her mother drops her spoon. She can't believe she's invited to the ball. She's furious because she never lets her daughter go because she hates the royalty. Molly doesn't understand why the prince was really nice to her. Her mother assures her the royalty are all the same they are selfish and greedy. Molly refuses to believe. She is going to the ball.
Suddenly, the mother takes a moment, stares at the stew in the cauldron, and back at Molly. Perhaps her daughter has a point. So, the mother asks Molly to spin around. Molly with hesitation does so. Mother does a spell, and we see Molly transforming into a Princess. Molly is thrilled with her look hugs her mother thanking her. Her mother smiles into her eyes saying she's going to remember this night. Molly runs to her room. The mother goes through her cabinet with all the potions. One in particular called Poison. She takes the poison potion and pours it in the stew.
In Real World: Daughter interrupts her mother asking if Molly's mom is the evil Queen. Mom says she's getting warmer:
It's nighttime at the Royal Ball. The castle is glorious. Everybody is dressed up, dancing, drinking, having a good time. Prince Liam is strolling around the dance floor greeting every maiden. Then, like in Cinderella, he spots a beautiful girl by the stairs with a big smile on her face -- it's Molly. He walks across the room to greet her up the stairs bowing. He says hello Molly. She says hello Prince Liam. They go down the stairs arm in arm and start dancing. This can't be happening. Molly is living her fairy tale. What could go wrong?
Molly's mother shows up dressed up as an upgraded version of her daughter. Molly spots her and introduces Liam to her mother. Liam bows to the mother. The mother curtsies. Molly and Liam continue dancing. The mother spots the King and Queen and does something different with her face. She looks different as she greets the King and Queen. The King and Queen welcome her asking if that's her daughter dancing with their son. The mother says yes. The Queen compliments Molly's beauty. The King adds if she would make a good princess for Liam. Molly's mother's eyes go wide and smirks. She says to herself, "Why I didn't use her before?"
In Real World: The mom closes the book because it's getting late. The daughter begs her to keep going. She is dying to know what happens. The mom points to the clock it's 9:00 it's too late. Her daughter is pleading her to continue reading. Mom is flattered her daughter is getting into it, she accepts. She'll continue:
At the Royal ball, Liam and Molly head outside to a water fountain. He asks if she believes love at first sight. She is starting to. He wonders if she'll be happy to live in a castle. This is it. The moment has come. He gets down on one knee popping the question. She says yes immediately. Her mother witnesses the whole thing grinning.
The couple married. Molly and her mother are living in the castle. Her mother travels back to their old hut house taking the small poison juices she's saved for a year. She wonders how to kill the royal family without getting caught.
Molly is tidy things up with in her palace bedroom. Her mother comes in smiling in awe of her beautiful daughter. Molly hugs her asking if she's happy they finally got out of the hut. Her mother response she's never been happier and she's sorry she never let her to go to the ball otherwise she never would've married the prince. Mother gives her a kiss and leaves.
Prince Liam is walking with in the hallway with his guards talking about his new bride. He gushes how he's so happy he met her, her voice is beautiful, she is so pure very different than the other maidens. Molly's mother is another angle of the end of the hallway behind the prince and his guards, she points at him, he reacts as if something got sucked in his soul. The guards are concern if he's okay, he shrugs he's okay. Then continues to walk.
Molly gazes out the window admiring the view. She then spots her husband singing to other maidens in the village, giving them flowers kissing their hands. It's unease for Molly. Her mother comes back in asking what's wrong. Molly is not sure why Liam is going around greeting the maidens and kissing their hands. Her mother states he's handsome, he's a Prince, it's nature for a man to be around women. Molly argues he married her why would he do this.
In the entrance, Liam has two women arm and arm, Molly comes out furious what is he doing? He explains he's feeling great something in him just sparked. He saw these two girls they wanted a tour of the castle. Molly runs off to the woods crying. The animals and the trees console her. Her mother rushes over to tell her something happened. She drags her back to the castle finding Liam's parents coming down the staircase in disbelief their son is found dead.
Molly and her mother shocked.
Molly is in her palace room confused how is this happening. Her mother comes to console her suggesting maybe it was a wishful thinking on her part. Molly never asked for this to happen. Her mother explains the anger when she saw her husband with the other girls could've triggered something in her. Molly doesn't understand. She never wished for him to die.
Molly heads to her in-law's bedroom telling the King and Queen she's so sorry for their loss. They question what exactly happened between the two she was the last person to see him. She is taken back nothing happened she got upset and ran away. She wouldn't. They tell her he was poisoned any idea who would've done it. Molly doesn't know. Her mother comes in stating she had nothing to do with their son's death she's innocent. The parents are not convinced considering the two of them came from a hut in the middle of nowhere. Both mother and daughter find this offensive.
Molly is upset they even said such things. The King and Queen ask them both to leave the castle immediately. Her mother points at them and they drop.
Molly is terrified what did her mother just do? Her mother tells the truth she's a witch and so is Molly. Molly doesn't believe her, but her mother argues how come she's able to talk to the trees and the animals no one else can. She hasn't been training her powers which is why she's never let her to go to balls or mingle with anyone because her powers might get out of control. Molly takes a moment and points at a bookshelf and the books fall off. She wonders why it hasn't worked before, and her mother says if she believes the powers work. She fell for the prince, and he fell for her by her magic. Molly argues it was real love he was not in a spell. Her mother reminds her then how come the moment he married her why he is unfaithful to her and why his parents accusing her of murder. She told her the royalty is not to be trusted they look down on commoners like them. Molly is distraught by all this information full of emotions. Then turns to her mother with a serious glare begging her to help with her magic.
As time goes by her mother has been training her daughter magic learning spells, potions ingredients, and gives her a dark robe to wear. Molly is getting into the control of her powers meanwhile the castle has been searching for them for murdering the King and Queen, so they have gone into hiding. The mother is so proud of her daughter together they can rule the world. They can be the most powerful duel nothing can stop them.
Something is bothering Molly. Her mother notices and wonders what's wrong. Molly questions did she have anything to do with poisoning Prince Liam. Her mother plays denial why would she poison her daughter's husband that's nonsense. Molly reads a spell from a spell book if they are able to control a person then maybe she cast a spell on Liam to act like he's never been married. She stares dark at her mother it was her all along. The mom does a spell to trap her daughter -- she can't move. Her mother goes on about she did everything for her, and this is the thanks she gets. She wanted to show her the royalty are not good they don't care about the commoners, the prince doesn't care about her, he just saw a pretty face and forced to marry.
Molly doesn't believe her. What does she have against the Royal family? Mother explains when she was young, she too fell in love with a prince. She thought they were going to get married but because she's not exactly his parents first choice they forbid it. That prince is the father of Liam whose mother is the woman he chose over Molly's mom. Molly's father was a wizard who taught her mother everything she knows, unfortunately he was destroyed by an evil sorcerer. And therefore, her mother concludes falling in love only gives heartbreaks.
Molly asks how come Liam's parents didn't recognize her mother at the ball? Mother demonstrates her disguise as another person it's a transformation spell. It's a spell where you can transform to an animal, an old person, or a creature maybe it might come in handy one day. Molly looks at her mother dead in the eye did she put a spell on Liam to make her think he's unfaithful? Her mother takes a long pause and says he would've broken her heart anyway.
Molly gives a big roar of anger her powers are taking over her rage. Everything is twirling like a tornado. Her mother is trying to calm her down. Molly has had enough of her mother's interference. She does something drastic. She gestures a choking spell on her mother. Mother can't breathe. Molly rants she ruined her life; she was happy, she was in love, everything was going perfect. Now, they're on the run everyone hates them. Her mother has no oxygen to fight back and slowly goes down on the floor no breath left. Molly watches her mother lying dead on the floor. Life is drained out of her. She says to herself if having a dream means getting crushed what's the point? If she can't have her happy ending no one will.
In Real World: Mom finishes the story apologizes to her daughter if the story scared her. Her daughter is actually intrigued it might change her opinion on the evil queen. Her life was so sad it explains why she got evil. Mom says sometimes it's good to hear both sides not everything is pure good or pure evil. Her daughter thanks her for reading the story it was scary but not terrifying but different.
