Hi Jennie,

I just wanted to drop you a quick email to say…. well I don’t know what to say really. I think I wanted to say sorry on behalf of Piper. And me. I had to tell her. I totally get it, and I’m not mad with her, but I don’t think she should have said that to you. So I’m sorry. But I need you to pretend it never happened today. With a bit of luck, it will all be over soon. I’m expecting the analysis back today.

All the best, John.

John,

What happened, happened. You can’t change it. I’m not mad with you, but I do need a few minutes to get my head clear. Your wife is crazy, and we DO NOT NEED THAT RIGHT NOW.

We shouldn’t be chatting about this on here, we don’t know if anybody from IT is watching.

Jennie.

Hi sweetheart,

I’ve mailed Jennie this morning. I know you didn’t want me to do it, but I really did need to try and sort this mess out. She really wasn’t interested, and she’s made me worry, saying that maybe IT will be looking at my mails. I’ll mail Jacob, he’ll be able to tell me. If they are, we’re in bigger trouble than any of us anticipated. Don’t panic (yet). I’ll send you an email when he comes back to me.

Keep the usb stick safe in the usual spot. We’ve got what we need for now.

Love you, and I’m very proud of you, John.

Hi Jacob,

Bit of a strange one this… I’ve got a co-worker who thinks that maybe the company are reading our emails without our knowledge. Of course I said “That’s rubbish” but I promised them I would check. I mean, IT doesn’t monitor our emails do they?

Just paranoia?

Cheers mate, John.

Hiya John,

Nah mate, we don’t do that sort of stuff. Too much to do without doing that pal. Must be something in the water up there on the fourth floor!

We must catch a drink soon though buddy!

Oh and say hello to Piper for me. Hope she’s all good now?

Morning William,

Think we have a problem. Jellyfish has been asking questions this morning. I’ve managed to deflect, but I don’t know how much longer we can keep this contained.

What’s the plan?

I’m pretty stressed out here. I can’t handle this any more, I’m starting to get ill again. You hear me John? I wish we had never found the usb stick. I shouldn’t have shouted at Jennie, God only knows who else heard my rant, pretty much everybody from your office was there, even William! What lured him to come and party? And I’ve told you before, I don’t trust Jacob. He’s creepy as hell.

John,

I’m sorry. I’m just very scared. And I can’t believe you told Piper, we both AGREED we would keep this secret from everyone. Now I’ve got to get used to the idea that three of us know, and anybody else who happened to be listening in on our argument last night. I’ve got a bad feeling about all of this.

Have you got it with you?

What the heck are we going to do when the analysis is finished?

See below. Looks like things are moving fast, they are getting close to decrypting the data. I dunno who is helping them, but they are good. I’ll let you know if they mention where the stick is. Is it really worth all this hassle for some accounting spreadsheets?

Subject: Your hard work

Good morning John!

I’ve been hearing very good things about your work! I wanted to mail you so that I can personally thank you for all your hard work for TGABW. We are always looking to reward our hard working employees, and I think it’s high time you learned about some of the perks on offer to our senior team. Yes John, we’re thinking about promoting you into a leadership role! You can of course bring Jennie along with you - you would both have a significant pay rise. And Piper’s medical bills cannot be cheap, you must be struggling financially.

Of course, there would be some added responsibility, and you would be privy to certain corporate secrets that till now, have remained unknown to you. You would have to sign a non disclosure agreement - usual business stuff.

I’m going to presume that you are interested? How about we meet up here on the sixth at three o’clock this afternoon to discuss the matter further?

Warm wishes,

William.

No, it’s not with me here. I’m not THAT stupid.

My guy completed the analysis, and I’ve got the documents. I just read them. I thought we might find out a bit of dirt, but it’s so much worse than I could have predicted, we need to get this to the authorities. They’re not messing around - they’ve got all sorts of shady people working with them.

I think William is trying to bribe us to stay quiet. He’s invited me to a meeting with him this afternoon, promising a promotion! And he knows about Piper’s treatment, how the **** does he know about that?

I’ve sent the documents to you. I’ve sent a copy to Piper too. Just in case.

I’m getting out of here. You should do the same. Meet me in the parking lot in 5 minutes. Drop whatever you are doing and meet me there.

John.

Jacob,

I’ve been personally monitoring the situation, and suspected we might need to do something sooner rather than later.

Can confirm that Jellyfish and Octopus are no longer a concern, but we need to find Mantra and the drive. Go into their emails and see if you can find her.

And don’t bother giving me any crap about ethics here - we wouldn’t be in this position if you hadn’t screwed up and lost the damn thing in the first place!

And yes, it is worth the hassle.

And what the hell does “is no longer a concern” mean????

Do you know where John is? He’s not answering his phone. Or messages. I don’t know what the hell is happening, and I’m very, very scared.

I’m sending the files to the police, and I’m heading to a friend’s - tell John it’s the other John I’m staying with, he’ll know where to find me. I won’t say more than that on here.

Jacob you piece of s**t, I know you are reading this. Screw you, and I hope you burn in hell for spying on us.

Jennie, please let me know you are ok, and if you’re with John - I just want to know if he’s ok.

William,

It is with regret that I tender my resignation, effective immediately. I wish I could say my many years with the company has been a pleasure, but that would be a lie. I’ve done everything I’ve been asked, even when I didn’t agree with the decisions being made. I can no longer in good conscience continue to work under these conditions.

I’ve taken the liberty of deleting all the messages between us… at least the ones I didn’t want anybody else seeing.

I’ve forwarded all the mails from the last couple of days onto the police. Should be interesting reading for them. You went way too far William. Way. Too. Far.

I expect to never hear from you again.

Jacob.

PS. Enjoy prison.

The CEO of “The Green and Blue Wall” company, William (REDACTED), 47, has been in court today charged with the murder of two employees, John (REDACTED), 32 and Jennie (REDACTED), 39. The prosecution said it had found evidence of their murder from multiple sources.

Evidence was presented that showed The Green and Blue Wall company had been laundering money for organised crime since its foundation in 2016. William had managed to evade suspicion, but the law finally caught up with him when John and Jennie obtained an encrypted USB drive that contained the accounting files for the laundering business. They sent the files to the police after decrypting them. William murdered them in an attempt to conceal the truth, hoping to have prevented the dissemination of the files.

Another employee, Jacob (REDACTED), 24, testified to William’s wrongdoings, submitting evidence to support both the murder, and also the laundering case. Jacob himself is awaiting trial for his role in the laundering operation. His co-operation is expected to reduce his sentence.

The families of John and Jennie were present at the court to hear the verdict, including John’s wife, Piper (REDACTED), 29, who weeped as the judgement was announced.

William was sentenced to 34 years in prison.
