What Goes Around Comes Around

Once I heard an old saying “What goes around comes around” and it became true for me. As I met a lady named Prerana. She lived in the city of hearts, Delhi near my house. She was an acquaintance, as my mother met her in the park, but both became friends after sometime. She used to share her knowledge about the world. She says world is land of colours, culture, dance, food, rivers, stars, rain and mountains. She was funny, kind and helpful. She used to teach poor children in the park and help them with their work. She had an amazing style of teaching. As per her teaching and learning is an art of sharing and caring. And the easiest thing one could for others. It has no boundaries and can be done in many languages but just one motive and that is to learn and grow. Learning and teaching are synonyms. Is like walking the same road but education is the highway leading to learning and teaching.

She used to visit us for dinner sometimes. She was an amazing storyteller, also mentioned time is precious devoted it in helping others and use it wisely. She was an avid traveller and travelled a lot of places in India and around the world. And she had a collection of post cards of places she had visited and had stories related with almost every place she visited. I was fascinated with her knowledge and enthusiasm. She always mentioned teaching is not difficult if considered two ways give and take. You also learn when you teach.

Talking about me I am Misha, I am 10 years old girl, Prerana Aunty and I used to stay in the same society. I used to help her in preparing content for the children she used to teach in the slum near to our society. She uses to help me in my projects also. She was an easy person and explains everything so easily.

Aunt Prerana was pursuing her degree in teaching and I was impressed with her dedication and commitment. She was inclined in social work for the betterment of the society which made her teach poor kids in the slum school. Even after getting amazing score in her degree she chooses to teach in a slum school rather than choosing a highly paid school teaching job.

But God had other plans for us. As the world came to a halt due to COVID-19, As a result world came to a standstill due to this pandemic. Everybody was stuck where ever there were. Schools were empty, offices were closed, parks were deserted and everybody was grounded. Many lost their livelihood and loved ones. Many were helpless and became hopeless. It also impacted Aunt Prerana, she lost her job as the schools were closed and temporary staff was removed and her dreams of helping poor children faded in the dark.

She was affected mentally on both fronts personally and professionally. As her parents got transferred to another city just before the lockdown and they can't visit her because of the government norms and she had lost her job. Her only hope of enjoyment were her dog Giggles, a brown and white spaniel.

One day she met one of her student’s father, who was the security guard in the nearby grocery shop. She was disheartened to know how troubled and unfortunate they have become. No school and no play. No teaching and no learning. But technology and smart phones came as a rescuer so she came up with an idea of engaging children in some activities, she started recording videos of fun and subjects related activities. She used to prepare some tasks also, which helped children to pass their time and obtain knowledge. She also instructed parents to make sure children watch, learn and to complete activities. Even children use to share their fun videos, thoughts and dance videos. Aunt Prerana use to share it with my mother, which made us have good time. I was amazed to see that slum children have amazing talent and big dreams.

Thankfully technology helped her again in coming out of her dilemma. She informed parents to download online class Application. Where she interacted with children live. Making easy learning again though all faced some network issues but as said something is better than nothing. Happiness and education entered her life again.

As we lived in a society, we use to call each other every day as meeting is not possible. Everyone used to wait for evening as all come out in balconies to enjoy music and fun talks. Elderly and children use to wait for evenings eagerly but one day she did not come out and didn’t even picked up her phone making us worried and again her life took the U-Turn, she was infected by covid19.Weak and alone. Once again, her plans towards betterment of children were halted.

And as it said” Your hardest time often leads to the greatest moments of your life” her hard time was also made her realize that she wasn’t alone. All the poor parents came forward to help her. One of them informed us about her health. So, my mother cooked fresh and healthy food every day for her, while she was home quarantine. I use to feed her pet and water her plants. Even Giggles was getting weak as no one is allowed to take it out for walk and play but as soon she recovered her parents took her and Giggles with them.

As she recovered fully, she came back to teaching with same zeal and passion she started teaching children online again from her new home and kept her and slum children dreams alive. She proved distance can be covered with technology and distance cannot stop education. Many unemployed teachers also helped her in accomplishing her dreams. Many started helping children by sending stationaries and getting better internet connections. Her teaching prevails as many other poor children also enrolled themselves for free online classes and started studying.

And soon as restrictions were relaxed, she came back to meet all of us. I was moved with Her passion and I was happy to hear her stories of struggle towards accomplishing her passion towards teaching and her struggle also moved many hearts. But she also learnt a lesson some time what you fell is free and easy can be difficult. Sometime universe has different plans for us but here her faith and blessings made her accomplish her dreams. And universe give us back what it has taken away which made me remember her ‘words that goes around comes around’.

Just to tell us Prerana means Inspiration, which she was indeed.

Really inspiring story with interesting content. The grammar could use a little bit of work. That would make the script more readable. At some points you repeated yourself. One line really stuck with me: "Many were helpless and became hopeless." Amazing line, it could be a great quote. Keep up the good work and share more great stories :)
