Adventure Coming of Age Fiction

In the city I grew up in it was a small town where everyone knew each other till the extent that every embarrassing experiences we faced as kids when know to all even by our enemies. Attending class was a headache we teenagers all faced and didn't want to accept but just had to face, I was among those who loved school better than my home because of my parents always arguing and that never seems to end, I hated their arguments so bad that I played loud music in my headphones but that didn't drown out the noise so school was my option and I guess my escape. My parents later got divorced, my mum won the court case which involved me and my two siblings but we moved to another state, starting anew isn't fun and I've been experiencing it slot since childhood. Memories we favoured can't just be forgotten, people we grew up with, shared our moments, argued with, fought with, all left behind like it was a dream. In the new town it was different, strangers minding their own business but looking at you like you where an alien so fascinating to look at. I kept to my self most times cause I loved the quiet environment, breathing in fresh air and imagining how to tackle my next obstruction which is how to live in a new place. My mum was already an archived woman so she didn't find it hard but started a food company in the new town which was booming by the was. A lot of people came by because of the quality and attraction, it was popular among the young generation heirs and well to do people. Third year of high school was fast approaching and we where expected to attend school everyday for self study and further explanation if need be, I never ignored my classmates if asked questions about studies because two heads where better than one and self study progressed gradually. Then suddenly the unexpected happened, it all went dark, people who where afraid of the dark screamed and those who where overjoyed that learning ended where happy, students are hard to handle to begin with but in the dark it was worse. Our school was not well to do but candles where better than nothing and that's how we where evacuated by our teachers before walking in groups to protect ourselves on our way home, it was dark so dark we only heard noises but couldn't see our faces clearly or our surroundings. At last we all made it home but we didn't expect that was the beginning of the Unexpected, we all thought it was a temporary thing but we didn't know it was everywhere. It was like a disease we couldn't accept but had to because we had no choice. My siblings where home early and my mum reached after I did and we lit our candles to give light to our environment because we didn't have a generator which we finally found use for. The next morning it was aired on the radio 📻 that this was a power outage with no solution, our era was not developed to solve our problem but be where safe. People sought out this period to loot, rob and cause chaos instead of looking for a solution. I guess we where back to square one all over again in this era, the government had not said anything, what where we to do when even the menial jobs where done by our parents and the ones we saw weren't worth a dime, the rate of currency where not much even for all well to do and able people. We all took what we saw as easy for granted until we lost it, most people had never washed clothes with their hands before but they had to now, eating out even when poor was another thing we all did then now stealing was how there could get by most times a particular area had no food and there had to search the next, food was not our only need and as the first child with no choice but to get supplies for my family, my mum was already in her prime so she wasn't an option to go out and get supplies, being the only man of the house I set a lot of protection around our house to keep us safe because the looting and robery where not only stores now but houses, there where now taking advantage of the weak and where not even ashamed, shameless they where but also dangerous that's why precautions was needed. Radio needed batteries to keep us informed and we had a lot from the store, people went for food I went for food and daily needs, the next news we heard on the radio was the government had a location to provide shelter for everyone nearby and made more in different states but with the robbing also came kidnapping and even rape was included no matter what age, so we had to be extremely careful everyone included. It was broadcast that people already came to seek shelter there and more arrived gradually and we would have to move eventually from our location to a safer one. My mum took the role of comforting my siblings and so far she did a good job keep them distracted but sane, making them aware and providing safety precautions , I guess the saying "Mothers know best" isn't just for show. She cooked and cleaned, something she hadn't been doing because we all had washing machine and dish washer but now it had no used only a box used to store things and hide things if need be. We children grew up faster due to circumstances but we had to adapt, boys had no choice even though small. My brothers where still little and all of the responsibility still fell on me but I wasn't complaining, I was their big brother after all and it was my duty to protect them and that's what I did. Funny thing about it all was I was a girl to begin with, but boys clothes where better and safer to keep me away from danger and the eyes of kidnappers and rapist. I had learned martial arts before so I fit well right in my character as a big brother that could protect them. The Unexpected is something we could have never believe even if we were told one day but that's how we are living now but we're going to surely survive it.

Radio voices are sent out on carrier waves, which can take 5000 watts of electricity. I am very interested to know how radio continued in your dark world...perhaps you can write more and tell me how that works. :)

Radio, sound communication by radio waves, usually through the transmission of music, news, and other types of programs from single broadcast stations to multitudes of individual listeners equipped with radio receivers. So it doesn't necessarily mean that the radio should function with electricity, battery radio is optional.
