Heartfuly sorry!

                   Every news channel was ringing with the most deadly murder of a murderer named Peter. His corpse was on the highway with his back lying against a milestone. He had his heart in his hands, eyebrows removed and fingernails clipped off from his nailbed. He had his wrists slit, toes chopped off and, a letter tied to his little finger. The letter said, “My heart in my hand shows how sorry I am for all the crimes I committed. I’m writing this letter to warn all my fellow criminals. Take care XOXO. ”

                              The letter was a printed one and, there weren’t any traces of fingerprints on his body. We searched the place and found footprints of a shoe that lead to a trail of boulders. There weren’t any footprints after that and, it got us back to tile one. The crime rate in the city reduced drastically and just when the citizens started to move on the next body was recovered from the city outskirts positioned, same as Peter. He had his heart in his hands and, the letter said, “ I’m writing this letter to warn all my fellow criminals that this isn’t some kind of a joke. I took this person to be a joke and continued with my atrocities. I trafficked 20 women and 15 boys. They are in a container travelling to Goa. I hope you’ll find them and, get them back to their families. Take care guys XOXO”.

                            The post-mortem reports of both the victims showed the same conditions of torture. They had needles pierced through them and their tongues cut. The autopsy reports haven’t helped us either and we were back to square one and, the city seemed to be a better place to live without our help. A week passes by without any disturbances and, it got us worried because we haven’t heard from him for a week. We loved the peace but, on the contrary, it made us feel like fools because we couldn’t bring it. We found Charles dead the next day, positioned the same way as the other two at the same place too. This time we found a video-tape along with the letter. The letter said, “I raped a girl aged 13 and tortured her to death. The girl’s body is in my garage in a bag and, I’m begging her parents to forgive me. I’m sorry for the crimes that I committed and, the video-tape is the video recorded of my death. Take care guys XOXO.”

                     We played the video and, it turned out that the murderer was a she. She showed Charles the heights of pain by piercing needles into him and waxing his eyebrows off. She killed him brutally, cutting his tongue off and, she cut his wrists leaving him to bleed to death. After he is unconscious in his chair, she takes his heart out by cutting his sternum. We got to know that she was a left-hander from the video. There wasn’t anything else in the video and, the only clues were that the murderer was a woman and, she was a left-hander. I watched the video, again and again, hoping to find something, but there wasn’t any progress. We couldn’t lead the case with the fact that she is a left-hander.

                               After watching the tape for two days restlessly, I found a car-plate beside the stretcher. I could see it only partially but, I tried my best to get the number and, I noted it down. I searched for the owner of the car, and it turned out that the car plate belonged to Sarah. She was my colleague, and she was one of the best officers. It was hard for me to take in the fact that she was the murderer. We searched for the complete house and her garage too. When we asked her about the car she said, “I had an accident and, I lost the name-plate. The next morning, the car was missing, we didn’t file a report because we were trying to sell it. The car was old and, we couldn’t find any person ready to take it”. I had a sinking feeling in me because, I thought that I was at the verge of cracking the case and, I was back to where I started. We left Sarah’s place apologizing to her for the disturbance that we caused.

                          We started hunting down for the car and, the results were disappointing because we hunted down almost street for that car. Two weeks passed by with us going in circles for that car. We watched the video again hoping to find another clue but, it was like ashes on the ground. We started gathering middle-aged women and, the search took place for another week. The results seemed as disappointing as any, but we didn’t give up. After two days, we got a call from a person saying that he found a dead body in the woods. We rush to place and, as expected he had a letter with him. The letter said, “I murdered a complete family for their money. The bodies of the family are buried in my back yard and, the money is in my locker. I’m sorry for the crimes that I committed and, the video-tape is the video recorded of my death. Take care guys XOXO.”

                   The video had the same thing that was in the previous one. The only thing new in the video was, she had scars on her hand. We continued our search for her and, now we had another clue. We listed out about ten women who had scars. We had these women take psychological tests and, our hard work went down the drain. There wasn’t much progress in this case and, we hoped that Stan’s autopsy report would help us find the murderer. The autopsy report arrived after two days and it did help us. The body had a hair strand stuck in between his toes. The murderer was a 24-year old and, she was studying medicine. We got her address and when we went to her place it was empty. We found a trap door and, that’s where we found out her hideout. After an hour she came home and, we took her into custody.

                      She hasn’t shown any resistance and, it bugged the hell out of me. She seemed confident about what she did. She answered every question to the point without any hesitation. She said, “Every person that I killed was a criminal. I did what you all couldn’t so, be thankful for it. They deserved such horrible deaths and, I’m ready to take any kind of consequences. She was given a death sentence and, hanged to death the next day.
