The Sun Sets and the Sun Rises

Written in response to: "Set your story in your favorite (or least favorite!) place in the world."

Adventure Fiction Mystery

Oh how the sun sets, and the sun rises in the same way and order from the beginning of time, though most have never noticed this.

"Is it because the rotation of planet Earth, or the way the sun and moon are chasing each other, or what is it that from the start of time and space that have some sort of agreement with each other as to who leads and who follows?"

No matter what the reason(s) are, there are some places on Earth which are hidden in plain sight gems. And most, if not all of them are so obvious and wonderous, they breathe life, breathe beauty, breathe and ooze glorious wonder, beyond what the human eye can behold, words may escape the lips.

Some places that are listed in this category would be Hawaii. Not saying that the rest of those listed are any less beautiful, but they are never able to hold a candle to Hawaii. The beauty that is part of this place, has been created by volcanic ash, and what is considered the destructive matter of such, is what allows the pure beauty to be displayed in all its glory.

Since the idea that such a place has been developed and is continuously developing with more islands becoming dry land out of the water, out of the ocean, this place holds as many secrets as it does mysterious accounts, that give it an evil sinister glow of accomplishment.

The various residents and natives, add to the mystery and wonder which gives one a reason to discover or try to find out all that makes this one of those unspoken places to explore, in hopes of becoming involved in the legends and the folklore that make the islands worth seeing (and visiting).

It was the last state to be added to the other forty-nine states, all of them making up what is presently modern-day America. It can be considered as mysterious as Alaska, with its uncharted, unscathed territory. Both having a past that would make even the most serious horror enthusiast cringe.

From all the many cracks, crevices, deep entrenchments, animals and beasts, the local pirates, the ones who kidnap for ransom (while some are successful, others are not so lucky). The idea of plane crashes, shipwrecks, lost treasures (in the millions, if not billions or trillions, fortunes made, gained, and lost.

The many tales and idle gossip, if nothing more to add to the mystery, whether true or not, only makes one wonder what fact is and what is fiction. It makes most seek the truth, to either find the truth or be lost while trying to find it. Some lose their life savings and their lives while looking for things that may or may not be real.

The locals won't freely share, unless they can benefit from the island's past, yet each island individually has a history and mystery all its own. Some identifies each with the tales passed down from one generation to the next. It adds to the things in its past that heighten the excitement of the chase, and the adrenaline rush felt, like being in an Indiana Jones movie.

To discover what had been well hidden from public eye and public view for so many years, is the root of greed, suspicion, betrayal, deceit, paranoia, hallucinations, and worse death. One can become different in the way they act and proceed to cause harm to others and themselves.

There are rituals and curses of epic proportions, which can be the true culprit in making one think that everyone else is out to get them or is wanting to steal what they have found.

Since no one truly knows, as the secrets and truth has been taken to the graves of those who lived the past, in the past so shall all things true be kept until proven otherwise.

The ones who were innocent, can become criminals, while those who were sane before, go insane. The ones who are not believers become believers of such, while those who were fearless before becoming intensely afraid of things they never thought possible to be afraid of. Those who choose to follow their plans for unspoken determination are turned into madmen, by their own hands, while destroying all those who choose to stand in their way or become baggage and obstacles.

To those who are ready yet hesitant, are the safest choosers. These are the ones who will not venture out and are not willing to take the risk, yet they are also considered cowards, because they are playing it safe. Being safe in some cases can be one's downfall or make them be seen as weak.

Nothing on any of the islands is worth one losing sanity, being deformed, or worse death, either at their own hands or by someone else.

Sheer willpower and determination can reveal the true side to very madness and insanity, the hairbrained scheming and willingness to be the first to prove all wrong. But then the idea of losing all your money, losing one's dignity and self-respect, and only plainly being an idiot for trying something out that may or may not pan out, like the gold miners who went West to find gold yet doing so blindly.

"If today is not the day, tomorrow may not show the signs needed to be the better day". "What one can choose to do today, but then decides to leave for another day, without good reason or cause, never willingly take the risk and will never know what they missed out on". "We are always thinking of that we wish to do, not sure what we will find or when we will get the nerves to do what we planned".

"How can we know?" "How can we find the courage, to take the chance, to make the dream a reality?" "How can we know?" "We surely cannot ever know for certain, so the beginning journey is only starting, ever so slowly".

"How much longer can the secrets be held in their tombs before someone finally figures out a way to reveal them without disturbing the place they presently lie?"
