Adventure Happy High School

It was a sunny afternoon when my mom came into my room with some news.

“Hey Nathan, Start to get ready for your baseball game” she said.

After I paused my game on my Xbox I looked around my room and saw nothing but a messy room.

“Sheeesh it looks like a tornado happen in here” I said feel disappointed in myself. I cleaned up any trash I had left out, clothes I had to hang, and shoes that needed to be in my closet.

“Alright, now it's time to suit up,” I said while grabbing my clothes. A shirt, pants, socks, belt, shoes and hat was all I needed to look and play like a baseball player. I left my room to go and grab my stuff which was in the backyard. On my way there I spotted my little brother watching YouTube on our big TV in the living room. I look at the TV to see what he was watching and well I didn’t understand it but he was having a good time so I let him be. As I'm outside I decided to pet my dogs for no reason which was probably a mistake since by the looks of it they were trying to sleep. After grabbing my bag I made my way to the fridge and grabbed my water which thank god I remembered to make early since it was a hot day. Once it was 4:30 we were off to my game which was about a 15 minute drive to the field. On the drive there I decided to listen to some music to pass some time on the drive. I then saw my hands getting sweaty and I thought it was just hot in the car. Then I started thinking about my game and how it would turn out.

“Will I get hit with the ball...What if I don’t catch the ball...What if I just do bad in general?”

It was at this point I felt like I was gonna explode with so many thoughts in my head. I started to sweat more, have bad thoughts about the game, and even start shaking.

“Honey, are you feeling ok?” my mom said looking in the top mirror of the car.

“Y-Yeah it's just some butterflies in my stomach” I said with hesitation.

“Look you're gonna do great just have fun OK” my mom said with a smile.

I wish I could believe her to have fun but no one has fun when they are losing. My past coaches used to say the same thing but after we made an error he's just screaming his butt off. We finally get there and walk to the field.

“Look Nathan just don’t..mess up OK” I told myself in my brain. I wasn’t the best at speeches but it did the job. I reached the dugout and looked over my shoulder to see the other team and they looked like professionals. They threw the ball hard, caught every ball that was hit by their coach and were really tall. I knew I had to be on my A game today and to not let my teammates down. I went over to my team mate jack and asked him if he wanted to play catch as a warm up.

“Sure man just grab a ball I'll meet you in the outfield” he said while already running over there.

After an hour of practicing with my coaches we were ready to start the game. I joined my team in the dugout and waited for the referee to take his position.

Then all of a sudden “Hey Nate are you ok?” he said. I didn’t know what he

was talking about until I looked at my arms.

“OH GOD” I realized my arms were really red and knew my face was red too. I then looked around me as my entire team looked at me with a face of confusion. I thought to myself this was it I was gonna get made fun of for how dumb I looked.

“Coach, we need some ice” a teammate screamed out. I saw the coach run really fast to the snack shack and back like it was a matter of life or death.

“Alright who got hur...oh you don’t look good” he said.

“I think you're allergic to the sun kid” he said with a sign of defeat. I looked at the sun and realized that my time playing sports was over. I stood up and looked at my coach and said “Maybe I am but that isn’t gonna stop me from playing the sport I love”. I felt like some type of power just awakened inside of me like I could become a superhero.

“Alright Nathan lets do it” my coach said with a smile on his face. I heard the rest of my team shout HOORAY and pat me on the back. And finally the game started with me sitting out for two innings to at least stop the pain of my red skin. And now it was my turn to bat against the opponents fast pitcher. His pitches were fast and so accurate as we managed to get only one guy on third base. I walked up to the batter's box, squeezed my hands on the grip of the bat, and prayed that I would at least touch the baseball.

“STRIKE ONE!” the referee screamed.

The pitch was so fast I didn’t even have time to react. I then watched and predicted when to get ready as the pitcher was about to throw the ball.

“STRIKE TWO” the referee screamed again.

“C’mon Nathan swing the BAT!” I said with an angry tone to myself.

The next pitch is thrown, I swing the bat… and I HIT the ball to second base and I ran as fast as I could to first base.

“OUT” the referee turned to me and screamed.

I looked at the first baseman with the ball in his hand and accepted defeat.

“ At the moment I hit the ball I felt a weird itch on my arm and that’s what made me hit the ball wrong” I told myself while scratching my arm and jogging back to the dugout. I sat in my seat and knew to myself this wasn’t gonna be easy with this sun allergy thing. It was now the sixth inning with the score being 2-1 with the opposing team winning. I stood in the outfield waiting for the ball to get hit and thought to myself “what if I don’t have a sun allergy and maybe the coach forgot to let us rest?” I then hear “ ITS UP” from one of my teammates and alerts me to look up. I saw the ball moving higher and further from me so I decided to run for it. I ran as fast as I could and put my glove in the air to then...catch it. I stood there looking at the ball in my glove not knowing what to do anymore. I then looked to my right and saw my teammate run to me.

“Dude we won the game thanks to you not being nervous anymore” he said with relief.

“So I was just a little nervous,” I said with disappointment.
