Adventure Fiction Mystery

This tale of tales. This legend of legends. This mystery of mysteries.

It is believed that the moment things start to happen, there is always someone or something involved with the moment going either way. It leads to either fortune or misfortune. Kind of like the optimist who believes the glass is half full, while the pessimist believes the glass is half empty.

This is such as one can imagine, after watching all such coming out of Hollywood. It seems Holly Wood was no more alive and able to foretell the future, than any soothsayer or fortune teller. Unless they be witching with the wrong side of the universe and having sell their own souls to the master of deceit and wickedness.

Not one, not two, but strangers three blew in with the seasonal winds and monsoon that would soon follow. It was the three named Pasture, Presenture, and Future. These three persons who were seen as they truly were and are, were a frightful sight to look upon, and if you stared at them you turned to cow manure, right there on the spot.

They were not known for their manners or for their long-winded conversation. They would point either at you directly or they would point in your direction, as though they were saying you were next. Then there was a jingle and a jangle and there was gasping cough. It was a joke laughed by all, then you would laugh no more when a bony hand grabbed you turning you to a pile of dust.

It was a event on an eve like this one. It was the time the three met and were discussing what they were supposed to share with a certain do gooder, named Ebenezer Skullcap. He was a sight to see for he was no more concerned about tomorrow, than he was about his fellow band members playing any gigs.

Ebenezer was more concerned about finding lost treasure, and off he went looking for it under rocks and stones, in deep caves and down in wells afar and near. Slype and Connor were tired of his long wishes that he would try to pass off as real. While Ebenezer and his girlfriend were too busy make their minds up of where they would go to next. Then the half working light bulb went on fully in Ebenezer's head and he rose up rushing off with Janni in tow.

The three pretenses were not to be discouraged. An accident would have to happen, so that they would be allowed to become full-fledged deputies of the underworld. All they had to do was to first let Ebenezer onto their secret, make him trip and fall down one of the many wells that he was looking for treasure in and then after he became as they were, bam it was on.

Ebenezer and Janni were racing to the car, when the three pretenses appeared out of nowhere. They blocked his path and Janni reached out to strike them, when her right hand turned bright red.

Janni screamed and fell down at the sight of blood. The three pretenses turned their attention on Ebenezer, and he was off running in the opposite direction screaming himself. They gave chase and caught up to him quickly. They reached out and made contact, for they could materialize in human form anytime.

They chose to pick Ebenezer up off the ground, placing him over the well that he was standing in front of before.

They looked coldly into his one good eye, seeing the other eye was made of glass. It was then they knew he was going to fall easily, so they tried anyway. They felt squirming and movement, felling their grasp loosening. Ebenezer was about free. He thought he had one when they grabbed his right arm and it fell off.

This was no human being it was stage prop for the local theater version of the Wizard of Oz and Janni had been Dorothy. "How could they have made such a simple stupid mistake?" Then in foggy mist, the Big Boss, JJ Lying, was there, grabbing the three pretenses by their collars and taking them back with him and his entourage.

After the three pretenses were removed, all seemed as it was. No one was sure how this had been or what was to have been. It was as though the panic room had been broken into and all the laughing faces and crying faces had made a mockery of others suffering.

The police showed up and were looking for witnesses. They were looking like the three pretenses, but they only asked questions and smiled eerily. They took down names and turned to leave, which was like they vanished. Into thin air they appeared and into thin air they left.

Those that were asked forgot what they were asked and walked away in a daze. All the people in the front yard were now no more than useless zombies. Slype and Connor arrived to see this and were relieved they had missed it. Running over to where Janni laid on the ground, with her right hand still bright red. The transformation was started and would soon take place.

The moment of truth was beginning to form in their minds and would become reality. If Janni did not wake up soon she would remain that way in that position and become covered by the Foam.

Janni awoke and was not sure what she had seen. She was helped to stand up. Janni, Slype and Connor, were standing there with their faces ghostly white from fright. They had seen Ebenezer become no more a human being than he had been before, or so they thought.

It was like they had all been asleep trying to get away from something that was there in their dreams and had made them believe they were actually part of the play the Wizard of Oz. Dorothy, the Tin Man, the Scarecrow and the Cowardly Lion, was what they were changing into, and they screamed as the blood dripped from their bodies and dried up on the floor in front of them.
