To my inner angels who kept fighting against the demons of my mind as I walked through each school day with hate in my heart, I want to thank you for it. And to those inner monsters of mine, thank you for being my inspiration for the books and stories that came out of these nightmares. To the outward angels who stood beside me while I battled the evil inside under my own skin that I kept covered, these books and stories will represent how you have been there for me. And to the backstabbers, fake friends, and the people who wanted me to quit, you couldn’t be more wrong about my true strength.
And to the younger me, who probably didn’t know that they were the main character in their own grand tale; you were going to do great things. Don't you ever look back and question the choices and the fake friends that you had to leave behind that led you to the me that I have become...

December 3rd, 2006 (From The Pens of Fate Saga)
Ashton’s mother held his hand in hers tightly as the winter wind tried to nip at his little five-year-old nose. The weather was pretty bad even though he had multiple layers on. The snow reflected the red and blue lights from the cop cars across the street from him and his mom. The scene in front of Ashton wasn’t like anything that he had seen in the cartoons. Cops were rushing around looking for the reason they were there. Two officers had come out of the little rundown house with a woman screaming and barking at them.
The woman’s appearance was that of what Ashton thought a corpse would look like; pale-ish gray skin and the bones in her cheeks appeared to be right under a very thin layer of skin. Ashton’s mom muttered under her breath about drugs, but that word wasn’t familiar to him.
The woman was still shouting to be released when her faded green eyes landed on the boy across the street from her; Ashton. The woman snapped and went farrell.
“YOU FUCKING BRAT, YOU DID THIS! I’LL KILL YOU!”
As soon as those words left her lips, Ashton felt his mother’s hand tighten around his. Ashton didn’t really understand any of the woman’s fits of rage. All he wanted to know was if ‘She’ was safe. As the cops put the woman into the back of one of the cars, Ashton pulled away from his mother. He couldn’t nor did he want to listen to the adults around him, telling him to get back. Why he didn’t was simple; he saw a dark figure moved around the corner of the house.
He turned sharply as an officer ran after him, and that was when he saw the footprints in the snow leading to a locked shed. The shed looked terrifying to the young child but he couldn't figure out why until later. The cop saw the shield as well and motioned to one of his nearby co-workers to take Ashton back to his mother as he slowly approached the door. Ashton continued refusing to move as the cop rushed the door open. The cop immediately ordered his coworker to get over to him and radio for an ambulance. Ashton just stood in the cold as his eyes looked past the two cops. The body of a small girl was curled up on the wooden floor…
Ashton’s mom held him close as the snow and time seemed to slow around the chaos. The officers brought Ashton back to his mother as the ambulance had finally arrived and two paramedics came running to the back of the house. Ashton’s throat burned but he couldn’t figure out why, and he heard someone screaming but it was almost muffled as if the person was underwater. Ashton’s mom hugged him tighter and he realized that he was the one screaming.
One of the paramedics came back to the front of the house, carrying a smaller child in his arms. The second paramedic rolled a stretcher that had a small black bag on it, and her face refused to look down at the bag. As the woman made it to the ambulance with the stretcher, the first paramedic brought the small child over to the officer and muttered to him in a hushed voice. The officer looked in shock at the small child in the man’s arms, amazed that one of the children was able to survive the cold. Ashton’s mom also looked at the boy in the man’s arms, but not with amazement. She was afraid, this child had an undeniable aura of pure evil around him and maybe she was the only one that could tell just because it was a mother's true instincts…
