I take the public bus home every day after work because only me and two other people do. And I'm always the last one off. After my shift was over, I was exhausted with so many things and jobs to take on.
There's a serial killer that escaped mysteriously right before I got to the station this morning. All the officers were dead on the ground with puddles of dark blood around them. Some were stabbed and others were shot. I checked the security camera but the computer was smashed. The office was messed up as if a hurricane had gone through it.
Now, since it's the evening I'm at my apartment sipping a mug of coffee with my microwavable KD I stayed up until 1 am scrolling on my phone looking for any trace of the escapee Carl Chedinton. There was nothing though, not even a trace of his existence. His files were gone at the office. I sighed in exhaustion and frustration.
Police officers from other cities came to investigate today after I called them. They let me take a break for the day after they came in the evening around 6 pm.
The next morning I joined the rest of the Police officers as we discussed the killer. They told me that they found a trace of his existence that he hadn't erased yet. We found out that he has a twin brother in Texas Levi Chedinton. We found his location and called him He answered and when we asked to question him in his apartment he agreed.
We drove there catching speeders during our time on the road. I went to his small apartment and knocked at the door. No answer. We knocked twice with no avail. We knocked a third time saying we were police and needed to be let in. Once we had knocked at least ten times I taped a note on the door that we had been here and would come back for questioning once they had come back.
I went to the front desk and asked to be able to see the security cameras then showed my badge just to prove it. They agreed after a few questions and we watched the cameras from the hallway that was next to his apartment. After ten minutes of waiting, a man with dark brown hair and a black beanie hat. With sunglasses, a plaid buttoned shirt and polished brown leather shoes entered the scene.
Our team raced to the second floor at room number 13 and quickly knocked on the door. Non one opened it. Then looking at the fragile wooden red old door with paint peeling off it I stepped back and kicked it open.
The door swung and it was open. I charged into the room where the windows were open as the wind blew at the white silk curtains. There were beer bottles and leftover pizza boxes with junk bags sprawled on the floor. It smelled like urine and vomit especially from all the stains on the couch and cheap tile flooring.
We split up half on search for the one trace we have left of Carl. While half searched his apartment, I went to search off that run away morron.
I looked from the window below to see a huge commotion. I saw the fleer as he jumped onto a alfresco stand which saved his fall, but made it go crashing down seconds later. With people shouting and screaming Levi Chedinton took off on a stolen motorcycle and took off during the scene.
My group and I raced down the stairs and got in our car. The sirens went off the red and blue lights were blaring as we continued to search for him. I saw him speeding between a narrow alley between two buildings. The car had no chance of getting through that, so we went around to try to corner him.
By the time we got there he was speeding on the road going to the highway. We sped up with the sirens still up all the cars moved out of our way giving us a path. Suddenly there were multiply similar motorcycles in different lanes going in all different directions. Luckily we had multiple police cars that outnumbered the motorcycles, I was alone in my car as I went next to one of the motorcycles on the lane beside it as I got a close look at the cyclist.
The first thing I saw was the ends of dark brown hair from the motorcycle helmet, leather brown shoes and sunglasses attached onto his shirt. I turned on my speaker and with a loud voice said, “Sir please pull over I am a police officer please pull over.” I then opened the window and directed my hand toward the side.
But he didn't instead, kept driving. He led me to an abandoned hospital and then ran through the entrance. The rest of the team caught up to me and we all split up to look for him in the hospital.
As I ventured through the hallway I felt like something was off, but didn't know what. The place was so silent even though the rest of my group was somewhere in the building I felt like the only one here.
On the walls there were strange pictures with this same woman that had dark eyes that felt like they were following me and a smile so cursed and distorted I had to turn away. There was blood streaks across the wall and floor.
I then turned into one of the rooms only to find a patient upright with their head tilted. "M'am are you alright?" I asked as you stepped forward only to find that she was dead. She had no heart pulse but her eyes followed my every move and her smile was so high she no longer had a jaw anymore. I then realized it was the same woman on the portraits.
I left the room felling shivers down my spine as I continued into the dark. At one point I could no longer see so I took out my flash light.
I heard footsteps rushing past me so I whipped around only to see nothing.
Every time I passed a patient's room there was always someone standing or sitting but dead, all dead. I feel like I was losing my mind and couldn't decipher if a person was alive or not.
"Cassey. Right? Is your name Casey?"
I gasped at the sound of my name and an unfamiliar voice. Uncertain I responded,
"Yes? that's me and who are you?"
I say as I turn around to see no one.
"You're never gonna catch me y'know I always get out, so what's the point of trying?"
My heart beat stops for a second and realize the person talking to me is actually Carl Chadinton the one we've been looking for the whole time.
I put my hand in my pocket to get the walkie talkie and alert the others but it's not there. "Looking for this?" I finally see him in full light. A sinister one with the same black hat like Levi wearing a sly smile holding my one communication to alert everyone. "Actually, yes you're under arrest." I say, but my gun isn't where It's supposed to be. My blood drains cold when I realize he has my rifle.
"Um... I think it's the other way around."
He points my gun at me, but I quickly turn my flashlight and tuck it into my vest zipper pocket.
Now were both in pitch black, not even the person with the best eyesight could see. It's as If we were swallowed up by the night. The clouds must have hidden the moon.
All of a sudden I could hear gunshots being shot over and over. I duked behind a smooth rectangular shape that i think is a suporter beam.
"Casey try me, you can run but you can't hide." He chuckled as he started walking towards me.
I heard footsteps comming down stairs and a light shining from the elevator, supprisingly. More gunshots were heard and bodies were falling. At one point two people were fighting. More gunshots, but this time it was no ordinary gun it was a firearm.
"You know, Casey I've been here before. I know where you are. All the dead people you saw, they were my vicitms. No one here deserves to live after what they did, what you police did."
he yelled over the shooting. And yes I know what he means.
A while ago his mother used to be in this hospital for cancer. She started to go insane and stole drugs and alchhaul from locked cabnets which she stole the keys from her caretakers. She went drunk and killed three caretakers before she was restrained. All the patients jeered at her and attempted to light her on fire. Even though it didn't work she was badly burned. The mom then mysteriously stole a rifle from someone else in the hospital and killed half the people there. Then the police came and shot her and took her body away. I guess Carl still hates that they treated her badly though. So he took revenge and killed everyone else. Then Levi ran from us scared or not willing to tell the answers then intentionly or unintentionly led us to a trap.
I knew I had to kill him though, there was no way I was going to let him escape from jail again if we caught him.
I heard more footsteps and then a thump, the firearm slid right to me and I saw two I denticle people that looked the exact same. "Stand up please, and put your hands over your head." I said confidently. They both stood up as I continued to keep the gun up.
"Please It's him you're looking for" one of them said. My mind went fuzzy. How could you tell them apart? Of course they have to be identicle twins wearing the same black hat and brown polished shoes and dark brown hair.
The other said nothing and stayed silent and waved up his hand. I shoot him.
"Okay I say to the first one you're free to go. I call 9-1-1 and more help arives.
Once everyone is on their way back home. I glance back at the dead body I shot.
I notice the one detail I missed and cover my mouth then cry. I'd wish I looked at them both more carfully. The sunglases still hanging onto his shirt and on his hand it says one word, "Mute."
