"I'm so done with him!"

Monet slammed the door behind her and sulked to the ground with her back pressed against it. She couldn't believe Ismus was only pretending to like her out of pity. Because he "felt sorry for her." But he could never reciprocate her feelings because he was still in love with someone else.  She curled herself into a tight ball, sobbing into her knees. That was the last time she was going to let a boy play with her heart like that. He knew very well that she liked him, that she had a crush. He could have told her he wasn't interested and spared her the pain of him kissing her out of pity. But no. He had to make her think he was interested. He had to make her think there was a chance the boy she was in love with might love her back. But now those hopes and dreams were crushed under his enormous ego.

Why did she even fall for him in the first place? Sure, he was cute and all, but other than that, he was an arrogant prick who thought he was better than everyone else. He's no different than Monet or any of the other students at the school. They all had talent; he wasn't special or anything. She was so happy the day he befriended her. Maybe it would snow all into them growing close and dating one day. Unfortunately, that's all he wanted to be, just friends. Nothing more. But, apparently, he asked her out for that same reason. To "give her a chance" because "they were good friends."

Screw you, Ismus Kaiser, Monet thought. Friends don't pity other friends.

"Monet?"

She groaned and squeezed her knees closer to her chest. Not now, Selphie. I'm not in the mood to talk.

Seraphina knocked on the door again. "Monet, are you in there? I heard about what happened. Mantrix told me." Her voice is worried. "Please let me in. I just want to talk."

Monet pondered her request. Maybe Seraphina could make her feel better. She was pretty much the only female friend she had; Monet doubted Mantrix or Zander would understand.

She stood up and opened the door. As expected, Seraphina was on the other side. Her baby blue eyes were wide with worry. She wrapped her arms around Monet and squeezed her tight. "It's ok." She stroked her hair. "Guys are jerks."

Monet sucked snot up her nose and laughed. "You should know. They practically chase you down the halls."

Out of all the girls in the school, Seraphina was definitely one of the most beautiful and elegant. She was of average height was an hourglass figure that made all the boys drool. Her eyes were light, innocent; they practically sparked. And her hair. It was probably the most stunning thing about her. It was as white as snow, flowing down her back to hug her hips. She had no bangs, simply a part down the middle that complimented her rosy cheeks. Seraphina was gorgeous. It's no wonder all the guys fawn over her on a daily basis.

Monet couldn't help but be a bit jealous. If she liked Ismus, would he have gone out with her instead? Would he have given a prettier girl more of an opportunity? Monet closed the door and sat on her bed. Seraphina took a spot next to her.

"I hate him," Monet sniveled. "He's a jerk for leading me on."

"He didn't mean it." Seraphina rubbed her back lightly. "He wanted to give you a chance. He didn't want you to get hurt in the long run. He didn't want you to get crushed in the end."

"What kind of crap is he feeding you?"

"Ismus really isn't a bad guy," Seraphina argues. "He thought he was over his last love, but he realized he wasn't. He didn't mean to hurt you."

"Well, it doesn't matter now." Monet crossed her arms over her chest. "I'm so done with him. With all guys."

Seraphina couldn't help but smile. "All guys?"

Her friend nodded. "Yup. They're all selfish assholes."

"I'm relieved to hear that." Seraphina looked into Monet's light almond eyes.

"What is it?" Monet relaxed.

Seraphina put her hand on Monet's, squeezing it. "You were so busy chasing Ismus, I was worried you didn't notice me."

"That's crazy!" Monet exclaimed. "How could anyone not notice you. Your hair practically glows in the dark. Literally, everything stops when you enter a room. Everyone's too busy looking to focus. You're gorgeous, Selphie."

"Monet." She squeezed her friend’s hand harder. "That means a lot coming from you."

Monet giggled and grinned. "Why wouldn't I mean it, silly? You're my friend. My best friend. Of course, I think you're the most amazing person in the world."

"No." Seraphina shook her head. "It's not just that."

Monet gave her a perplexed stare. "Then what is it?"

"I always wondered why you liked a guy like Ismus. From the day he first arrived, I knew you liked him. For months, you went on about how great and charming and sexy he was. And I've had to sit in the background and endure it-"

"Seraphina?"

"I knew he'd eventually break your heart. And I was praying that he did. Because. . ." Seraphina's voice trailed off for a moment. "Because I like you, Monet."

Monet's heart slammed against her chest. Did she say what I think she said? How could Seraphina, a totally gorgeous model of a girl, be enamored with someone like her. She was surprised Seraphina was interested in girls at all. With her looks, she could easily get any guy she wanted. So, why her?

"I-I don't understand," Monet stammered. She couldn't think of the right words to say. "You... like me?"

Seraphina blushed, her gaze falling to the floor. "I know. I'm the last person you probably thought would tell you that."

"W-why." Monet's hands trembled. "Why me?"

"Huh?"

"Out of all the people in the world, why me? You're absolutely stunning. You could get any guy or girl you wanted easily. One look at you and they're starstruck. I don't understand why you're wasting your time with someone like me."

"Monet." Seraphina looked into her eyes. "I like you because I think you're amazing. You're so strong, confident, and independent. I love how you work so hard for what you want. I love how you want to make a name for yourself and not just ride your parents’ coattails. You're you. You're unique. That's why I like you."

Monet smiled. "No wonder you always turn the guys who ask you out down. I thought you were waiting for the right one or something."

"Nope." Seraphina smiled back. "I just don't like men."

Her friend laughed. "Me either."

Seraphina's eyes lit up. "Does this mean you'll say yes if I ask you out?"

Monet couldn’t help but chuckle. "Of course I will. Everyone deserves a chance, right? Especially a girl as cute as you."

Monet sighed and smiled as she held Seraphina and their daughter, Cecilia, in her arms. It seemed like so long ago that the two started dating. She never thought a girl as pretty as Seraphina would ever be interested in her. But there she was holding the most beautiful girl in the world in her arms, right next to the most adorable child in the world. She was scared she would never end up with anyone, yet, things had turned out alright for them. And that’s all she could have asked for.

Seraphine smiled as she looked up, squeezing Monet’s hand tight. “Happy?” she asked, giggling a bit. “You’ve had a grin on your face for the past few minutes.”

“Definitely.” Monet leaned down and kissed her wife on the forehead. “I’m happier than I could have ever hoped to be.”
