Patti and Beth Closure

Written in response to: "Write a story about someone seeking forgiveness for something."

Drama Fiction Lesbian

The door flew open to the morgue, and a shadowy figure highlighted the entranceway. Her vivacious and curvy body made quite an entrance. Patti looked up and immediately knew it was Beth, Beth Sparks. Beth held the doors open wide. Patti muttered, "Of all the people, why did it have to be her?" Standing next to Patti, Mary said," Of all the gin joints, why did she have to come to mine?" Mary's smile was as wide as the open doors. Mary was the technician on duty in the morgue.

Beth slowly strolls in, headed towards Mary and Patti. Beth's long blonde curls and long eyelashes were competing for first place. She tosses her head back, letting the curls bounce back into place.

Patti looked long at Beth, but Beth just smiled politely and then extended a hand towards Mary.

"Hi, I'm Beth Sparks. I was sent by the agency to verify a couple of bodies you have." Mary, who had just gone through this with Patti, didn't ask for her credentials. Mary stood to the side and allowed Beth to check the body.

It was clear to Mary that Patti and Beth knew each other. But what were they really doing there?

Beth moves on ahead over to the body. She slowly pulls the white sheet back, then slips on rubber gloves from her breast pocket. Beth now turns the head to the right then to the left. Now she began speaking as if recording the whole thing.

"We know that both the male and female were thrown from the plane before it crashed. The female has a cut and bruise on the back of her head. And the male has a cut on his hairline. The records show this happened about 48 hours ago, although these injuries should have healed by now. '

Patti stood by Mary, just watching Beth; she couldn't help but remember how awesome Beth was. Beth was very good at her job and took it seriously. That's something Patti never did. Beth had helped Patti out so many times while Patti enjoyed life.

Beth slipped off the rubber gloves and headed over towards the door. She tosses the rubber gloves in the tall black trash bin. Patti comes over close to talk. "So, how have you been? Things are going well, I take it." Beth turns around to see Patti, and her blonde locks sway back and forth each time. It was like a graceful dance of a ballerina. Then Beth says, "I'm good, staying busy. You know me." Beth responded with confidence.

Patti stood there taking it all in. Beth always had more confidence than any woman Patti ever knew.

Beth was happy to stand in the shadows to let Patti be successful. Beth never pushed to be the center of attention; that was what Patti wanted. So, Beth let her have her moment in the sun. Until Patti let it go to her head, and it became unbearable to live together. It was Patti's idea for Beth to go and let Patti live her own life. What a mistake Patti had made.

Mary was reading over files and checking off the list. She silently wonders what was really going on? Why were two top Government officials, asking about two people who died in a plane crash? Something was up and Mary needed to make some calls to find out what was going on.

Mary went to do some digging as to what was really going on. She knew the Government only too well. They never tell you anything until it's too late. Was it some kind of terrorist attack? Was there something in the plane that no one knew of? What was really going on?

Beth waves a hand and heads back out the door to the elevator. Patti just remained there, as if her feet were stuck to the ground. Was it pride that kept her from chasing after Beth?

And just like that, she was gone, out the door and out of Patti's life, again. Patti felt her feet lift up, and so she ran out the door to catch her. "Maybe I can still catch her in the lobby." Patti took to the stairs; this was her chance to ask for forgiveness.

Patti raced up the stairs as quickly as she could. Her chubby little legs took two steps at a time. All of this was pushing her heart to beat even faster. She remembers her doctor had told her she should exercise more. Now she understood why he had said that; she was carrying a few extra pounds. Breathing had betrayed her as well, straining to exhale and inhale. But she had to push herself in order to reach Beth, otherwise forgiveness might never come.

Patti reached the lobby. She ran toward the main entrance, opened the doors, and looked for Beth. It was too late, Beth was gone. Holding the main doors open, a gentle breeze reminded her of the opportunity she had let slip by.

The cool air on her face gave her cheeks a nice rose color, kissed by the wind. Patti stepped back inside, and there was a kind of clarity in her mind.

It didn't matter how many times they had argued. It didn't matter that she had taken Beth for granted. Or that she had flirted with girls in front of her. It didn't matter how many times Beth had covered for Patti when she was late for work. None of that mattered; what mattered was how much Beth was there for her.

Patti walked towards the restroom, as she passed by the receptionist's desk, she remembered that only hours ago. How she had flirted with the pretty receptionist.

The cute blonde with the short sexy pixie haircut, who framed her face nicely. Patti found out her name was Barbara Towers. Patti remembers watching Barbara giving her directions to the morgue. How her ruby red lips moved as she spoke softly. And how her long fake eyelashes pointed the way towards the elevator.

Patti now walked with her head hanging down. She didn't dare look back at the receptionist. Patti did look up and saw the security cameras. They were facing the front desk, the main doors, and the elevator. Patti shook her head, thinking to herself, 'Great, I was watched by security. My shame was witnessed by people in the back room.'

When Patti finally reached the restroom, she checked each stall to make sure no one was there. Patti went to the sink and splashed some water on her face. She reached for a paper towel to dry off. She hoped the cool water would make her feel better.

Patti looked at herself in the mirror. What had happened to her? Where did she go wrong? Too many questions and not enough answers.

Patti left the restroom and surrendered her badge to a security guard now at the reception desk. She was glad she didn't have to see Barbara. Patti heads out the door to her car.

Patti got in her car, a Lexus. The car she had always wanted, Beth helped her get it. Beth had sold her car so Patti could get her dream car. That was so like Beth. Patti sat in the car, and memories were flooding her mind. She remembers how much they had gone through as a couple. How family and friends were not supportive of them. But like a bad storm, they made it through, together.

Patti didn't know how long it would take, but she had to have forgiveness for what she put Beth through. It would be the beginning of doing things the right way. Beth deserved that and a lot more. It will start with forgiveness.
