Narrator-
In the year of 1999, the birds were chirping happily at 8:50 in the morning, on the first of October. Some may say it was one of the most pleasant mornings they had seen that season. Two mid-aged black parents watched her little round eyes open for the first time since she was born.
In a plain common-place matter-of-fact, which was the Anchor Hospital, in Atlanta, Georgia, it was a fine morning. Fields, trees, hills and moorland, were the shade of deep rich green; a leaf had fallen, a sign to you that autumn had begun. Such was the morning, when a beautiful black family had a baby girl named, Katherine Pierce. The offspring of Lavender and Brandon Pierce.
Lavender-
“Are you proud of what we made Brandon? Can she be our little Angel? Will she turn out to be a freaking fag like some of the people in our neighborhood? Will she be infected with their plague?”
Brandon-
[Brandon's face starts heating up as he gets more angry at what he wife just said] “Don’t you even say those words again! We are not putting another child up for adoption because they turned out to be gay! She will be our religious Angel. I am so proud.” [He says a little bit calmer now that he has got the yelling out his system]
Scene 2: The Butterfly Effect
Time Pass: 2 months and 25 days [Christmas Day]
Narrator-
The Pierce Family left the hospital that day and enjoyed their Christmas and the following 9 that came up in years time. When she was just 12, Katherine realized that she just didn’t like only boys anymore, she was attracted to girls too. She needed to come to terms that she wouldn’t be daddy’s angel.
When she turned 13, Katherine had her first gay experience. On a Friday night, Katherine went to a party her friends were holding at their house, they all got drunk off of beer and body shots, and her best friend Honey decided to play a game called ‘spin the bottle’. The game had girls kissing girls, boys kissing boys and boys kissing girls. When it got to Katherine, she hesitantly spun the bottle and it landed on… Honey. So they kissed, and the game went on till the party was over.
Katherine’s family is so religious, so when she told them what happened, her dad got up and punched and kicked her over and over until she couldn’t cry anymore. Her mother just sat and watched and did nothing.
Brandon-
“You will never have another of the same sex do that to you okay, Faggot?”
[Brandon asked her with anger seeping through his voice]
Katherine-
[Looking up and coughs up blood on the floor and whimpers]”Okay, Dad. It won’t happen again. She was distraught. Just say it, Katherine. Still up for yourself.
Lavender-
[She walks up to Katherine for the first time during the whole conversation, and kicks her in the chest and the stomach. She bends down to whisper something in Katherine ear]”Don’t call him that or me Mom. You lost those titles for us when that QUEER’S lips touched yours, Fruitcake!”[Lavender spoke and got up and walked away with Brandon and left Katherine on the living room floor].
Scene 3: Bullies Will Always Be Bullies
Time Pass: Present [6 years Later: 19 years old]
Narrator-
After that encounter with her parents, most of the people started to treat her differently because of the party and also because of her parents outing her out the whole community. Which happened to spread inside the school. Every school day for the past 6 years she had been getting bullied. Just her. Not her and Honey. Nope! Her! After about 3 years of being bullied, Katherine was diagnosed with Major Depression. Her parents hated her too much to pay for medicine and rehab, so she started cutting herself.
Addison-
[She storms over to Katherine with an angry expression]”Was it you? Did you write that I was the biggest hoe in the school in the girls bathroom?[She states as she smacks Katherine in the face].
Katherine-
“No, but I wouldn’t be surprised if someone did write that because you kinda are a big hoe! So ba-bye honey! See on the flip side!”[Katherine states as she started to walk away].
Addison-
[Addison walked up to Katherine and pushed her to the locker. She brought her mouth to Katherine’s ear] and said, “I’ve been seeing your little girlfriend around the school and she is not here to save you now, huh, punk?”. [Suddenly, Addison starts caressing Katherine’s cheek and whispers],“I can break your innocence.”[Addison says as she runs her hand down Katherine's neck.
Katherine-
“Honey”[she shouts as that was the first name that came up in her head].
Addison-
“Shut up, fag!”[she screamed as she flung Katherine into the locker so hard her vision was turning black].
Narrator-
All that Katherine saw was Honey punching Addison till she blacked out and Honey coming over to her. Then all she saw was black.
Scene 4: Crush Becomes Love
Narrator-
When Katherine woke up, she was in the Nurse’s Office, and Honey was sitting right next to her, smiling. Not thinking Katherine smiled back. Even though she’s been through hell within the last 6 years, Honey is still her biggest crush, and she knew that she was Honey’s.
Honey-
“I know it’s kinda late to ask this, but, Will you, Katherine Pierce, be my girlfriend as long as you would like to?”[she asks with uncertainty leaking from her mouth].
Katherine-
“Yes!”[she screams from the top of her lungs].”Umhm. I mean, yeah, that’s cool.”
Time Pass: 7 months
Narrator-
As they went out for 7 months, Honey still hasn't come out to the school, so no one knows about their relationship. They sneak around the school to have alone time with each other. They never got caught by no one. They entered the gym as all the other students were at lunch, and they started to kiss until someone interrupted them.
Addison-
“Oh ma gawd! Is that Honey with the school’s faggot! Ya a fag now, Honey?”[she says as her and her pose come closer to Honey and Katherine].
Honey-
[Pushes Katherine and puts a look of disgust on her face], “No this girl just came up to me and kissed me I didn’t want her to!” [She pushes Katherine on the ground and starts kicking her and the others joined in too. After they were content they walked away]. And then, the story continues...
