Some humans have the ability to see the attributes of the gods. In the past, these people have been called magicians, soothsayers, witches and sorcerers. They have been shunned by society, arrested by the authorities, tortured, or burned at the stake. This is what happens to people who did not have the ability to keep their mouth shut. Those who learned that often fatal lesson, of when to sh...
I know you. You’re the kind of man who thinks you are your own man. Intelligent, proud, a man of your word, decisive, and you don’t accept any guff from anybody. A strong man with a strong will. Every day, you make your regular morning run at a steady gait around the neighborhood, which have been built almost a century ago. You are pleased with the old style nei...
I have been staring for a long time on the screen. My eyes are on the screen but my mind is miles and years away. Nothing seems to click in my head. A hand came in front of me and the fingers snapped. Not really loud but it startled me. “Juls, stop that!” Juls, short for Julia, is the girl next door. Our families have been friends s...
Idyllic. Everything was bright and in clear focus. Everything was sprinkled with colors around the gentle plain. The colors come from tiny but numerous flowers forming clusters. The each flower cluster had a clearly distinctive area. See: Yellow flowers, Purple flowers, Bright Green Flowers, Red Flowers, Blue flowers vying for space in the green and yellow-green grass. In th...
What do you say in the face of death? She was lying on the hospital bed. Her white hospital gown blended with the white sheet drawn just above her waist. Her left hand was clasping at both his hands. He was sitting on the chair besides her bed. They were looking at each other with intensity. As if to make sure that their faces would be imprinted permanently in their minds. &n...
It’s one of the most beautiful rocks I’ve ever seen. Imagine the Venus de Milo, but only from the tummy down to the ankle. And instead of one knee forward, both knees are up and parted, as of lying on her back. There are no separate legs but they are clearly defined in a big complete mass of rock, a sort of oval shaped rock bigger than my palm. It is rather hefty for a paper weight, but a nice addition to a desk or table top.
Henry is the kind of man I like. He has that quality to face situations squarely, and when finished, whether in triumph or disaster, can start anew, like the quote of his favorite line from Milton’s poem: Tomorrow to fresh woods and pastures new. His attitude is… somewhat strange. When asked, at the playground where coaches are looking for students to teach: “Hey! Are you a good Tennis player?” “I don’t know,” Henry said, “I haven’t played Tennis before.”
The clearing was surrounded by blue-green vegetation. In it were arranged five rounded stone stools, three on one side and two on the other. On one side three men were seated. They looked like men, but on their backs were folded wings that don’t seem to have bones in them. The wings were part of their bodies and they were mostly composed ...
Maya hurried towards the school canteen to meet her gang. Gang wouldn’t be the proper word. It’s true that they usually are together, but that’s because they grew up in the same neighborhood together and went to school together and they spend time together because they had no other choices, the other boys and girls were a bit more obnoxious. Frenemies would be...
The first time I saw her she was standing on the road, holding a shotgun in an easy grip, which was more or less pointed at me. I had been adjusting the gear in my bicycle-cum-cart, and could have sworn I didn’t see anything on the road. Then I looked up and met her intent gaze. Unsmiling. It was a jolt, a true shock for me. I may have opened my mouth. You...
The twilight years is as beautiful as the morning years. I know. I'm a grandfather. But I still need to learn how to write.
