The light refracted in a thousand directions when the lamp was directed at the broken glass. “Careful there, you don’t wanna get cut.” The Sheriff told me as he approached the scene. “So, what have we got here?” “Seems like the subject entered through this window.” I said as I pointed the lock inside. “Seems convenient, but I don’t think so.” He took a deep breath. “Poor woman, living her retirement, a grandma of four.” He touched the window. “But she couldn’t afford a new glass.” “Why?” I was about to give the Sheriff my...

“All right, I’ll do it.” Martin put his glass on the bar making a loud sound. The bar reeked of cigarette and alcohol, especially in the back. The two gentlemen stood away from the crowd, unnoticed by everyone except for the cantineer. They were some of the few whites in the bar, something that started to become more common lately. Of course they didn’t try to mix with the black, there were still some restrictions and they didn’t want to get in trouble. Fortunately for Martin he had a permit so there shouldn’t be a problem in going to the ...
“I’m telling you, it’s not gonna work.” I said as I looked at the roulette. “And I’m telling you it will” Thomas was stubborn as usual. The casino waas almost full and the roulette table was one of the main events. I still don’t know how Thomas managed to place a bet honestly. And to make things more interesting he placed it on zero. So typical of Thomas, doing reckless things, one day that man is gonna be in serious trouble for his actions. The croupier spun the wheel and everyone looked attentive, expecting for the ball t...

The smell of beer was almost sickening, no matter where you went it followed, but no one knew where it was coming from. It was a mess, pieces of fabric all around the place, for some reason there was a piece of carton hanging from the fan. But the thing that could not be ignored was the huge statue in the middle of the living room. A big head with three faces, no matter where you were its eyes followed you. “That’s pretty sick.” Aguy barked. “I guess so.” I answered as I turned to look at the guy. He was a tall slim blond...

… The dark knight took the enchanted sword after passing the trial of the pyramid. Now he was ready to defeat the demon at the island. Lucas lifted his eyes from the book, no matter how excited he was for the next chapter he knew he would have to leave it for the next day. It was late, later than he was aware of. He got out of his little hiding spot, the only place where could really read alone. He looked around as his heart started bumping faster. The library was completely dark, the chairs were placed above the table and the only...

I covered my face as I left the house. The wind today was so hot and strong, strong enough to make the old mills go round. It’s a shame those things don’t work anymore, they could be useful nowadays. I remember the stories of my grandma, how the mills helped them to produce electricity, preventing any kind of electric shortage. Now they’re just useless pieces of crap that no one wants, they don’t even make a good scene, besides, it’s pretty hard to see them from the distance considering the gray fog. The weather is so hot, it has bee...

I knocked on the door and waited for an answer, I knocked again and this time the door finally opened. After a long walk under the rain, my mother’s house had become visible in the distance. I recognized it because of the little window on the roof. I have fond memories of me and my sister climbing up to the attic to play hide and seek. I still have so many memories from that little cozy home in the middle of nowhere. What a rain and it kept going. There's no question that today is not my day. I’d never thought it would be this late. I had t...
