Sizzle, crackle, pop! The fire keeps me toasty warm. I get up from my cocoon of blankets in front of the fire place and run to the window. Still no snow. I had heard songs about winter and seen movies but it never snowed in Florida. I am spending Christmas with my Gramma in Michigan while my parents are on a trip. They are on something called a cruise and I’ve never been on one of those so I wanted to go with them a first but then they told me that Gramma gets snow in Michigan! I’ve been here for a week and so far its been really super cold...
“Snow cones! Get your snow cones!” The silvery white blanket of snow twinkled as I walked my regular evening route. Ever since Mama got sick I’ve been selling snow cones to try to make some extra money. Papa says if I make enough then maybe we will be able to take Mama to a doctor. This past year has been hard on everyone but especially Papa. Papa worked late almost every night and brought home beans or bread for dinner. My stomach growled every time I passed the diner in my town. I wish we could have a big dinner but Mama is more important....

Why are people so complicated? Our fragile emotions, suppressed memories, twisted desires all compiled into one troubled soul, one dark psyche. I wanted so badly to be the perfect person for you, for myself, for the world. I wanted to be admired from afar; placed upon a pedestal in white for all to admire. But for reasons out of my control my once white and pure dress is now tainted red with blood. I bleed out for all to see. I am now known for an identity that is not my own...or is it? Am I the whore they paint me out to be? Did I want it? ...
