My hangout was all set to be gloomy with the preconceived notion of having to spend the early evening in a badly lit and unclean waiting room of a railway station. These ‘refugee halts’ did not have much seating capacity; one such experience, about 5 years ago, had me standing in the waiting lobby for almost 2 hours before I managed a chair for myself; the regular commuters under such crises helped themselves by spreading newspaper or bed covers on the floor, almost setting up a feast for a picnic. The littered room infested with rodents for...

“Spider-man, Spider-man, does whatever a spider can, La-la-lum, laa-la-lum, la-la-la-la-la-la-lum, Look out! Here comes the Spider-man....Yasssss” “Jonas, stop yelling! You will land up with a sore throat and cough,” it was mamma’s turn to yell back from the kitchen. Mamma’s powerful voice was sufficient for tuning Jonas, but the effects did not last long. Little Jonas, 5 years of age, came hopping into the living area, where his imaginative mind discovered a hilltop. A chest of drawers that served as a console table too, was where the super...

Donna observed the Sabbath Day in a stringent way, allowing no room for work. The weekdays were sufficiently hectic to keep her away from her own little time and space. Like every other Sunday, Donna stepped out of her bed a little later than usual. She moved to her balcony garden to water the plants and checked to see if they needed a trimming, when she heard the doorbell. It was not the beginning of the month to expect the newspaper man to collect the monthly subscription, perhaps the milkman who had not collected his dues last month. With...

The Lilliput Santas were queued up to move towards the first two rows right in front of the stage so that could get a closer look at the magic show. All must have been below the age of 5 years- I could guess from the average height of the children. My son Eric of 4 years kept turning his head back to see whether mamma and papa were still seated at the table reserved for us. Waiving out to Eric, we assured him that we would be waiting for him at the table till he was back. As Eric trotted along with his clan, he kept looking on either side, a...

Ria and Krish commenced their second visit to the Dooars, this time by road. It was a drive of about 625 km from the state capital city, Kolkata (ne’ Calcutta). As they drove, Ria recalled incidents of their last trip to the Dooars in October 2017, which was a combination of a train and road journey. This time by road, Krish and Ria did not miss out on the changing facade of nature- the deciduous trees lining the highway gave way to the tall pine trees. Completely mesmerized they moved uphill.By about 4PM they reached their destination....

The Yellowstone Timberland Reserve encompasses 2.4 million acres of natural luxury. It includes snow clad mountains, meadows, forests, lakes, geysers and the dormant super volcano Caldera. The forest is home to wildlife too- grizzly bears, wolves, bison, tigers, lions and the timid deer, zebras and giraffes. These animals move around in their own habitat suitable to their food requirements and climatic conditions. The animals have their own little hamlets- one such happened to be Yolo’s home.Yolo was quite an ambitious and daring tiger cub. ...
