Trigger warning: Mention of infertility.October 9, 2003. 1:00 am.On the sixteen-hour flight from Seoul, your spine digs uncomfortably into the plastic flimsy door, hinges shuddering beneath the weight of your fear, as the creature spooned against the jut of your collarbone begins to sob. The fluorescent glare paints the tear stains on her chubby cheeks an angry red. Her lips parted in a rolling wail of protest, eyes dark and pooling with moisture. She lets out a hiccup...

My name is Emma. I am currently in college for a double major in International Studies and Chinese, with a minor in Spanish. I have two cats, a dog, and no social life whatsoever. Instead of talking to real people, I prefer reading about the social lives or existences of fictional people. I love reading short stories, dystopian fiction, and classical fiction. Some of my all-time favorite novels are "Jane Eyre" by Charlotte Bronte, "Fahrenheit 451" by Ray Bradbury, "A Tale of Two Cities" by Charles Dickens, "The Road" by Cormac McCarthy, "Annihilation" by Jeff VanderMeer, and "The Story of Your Life" by Ted Chiang. I draw inspiration from their writing styles, and incorporate them into my own. Even though I joined Reedsy in 2019, I forgot about it until now. At any rate, I was too young at that point to enter any contests back then. Now it's 2022, and I'm looking for an outlet amid my first year of college.
