The police were called to Kaytlynn Barrett’s wedding before it had even begun.The “bridal suite” on the second floor of the Stately Motor Inn overlooked the parking lot. Kaytlynn watched as members of the wedding party were led out in handcuffs to waiting patrol cars. Her fiancé came out first, followed by his father and another man she didn’t recognize – possibly a staff member from the inn. A small group of locals trained their phones on the procession. She prayed the videos wouldn’t end up on YouTube.

The waterfront is packed today.The weather is perfect: a mix of sun and cloud, low humidity, warm enough for shorts but not so hot as to make you uncomfortable.Derek is several people ahead, but easy to spot in his bright orange shirt.All the tourist traps are open and there are events downtown all week, so it makes sense that so many people have flocked to the boardwalk for the afternoon. I sidestep a boxy stroller and nearly walk right into a large dog in the process.
