Doll Face

Hello there, my dear, so I heard that you wanted to know what happened to the infamous Luna LaBelle, the mysterious and elusive woman who put Sourwater, Louisiana, on the map and was thought to be long dead. However, as you know, they never found her or her body.

Now, I was young at the time, so I don’t remember everything, but this is what I know. Luna LaBelle was born on January 1, 1900. Her father, Fredrick, a wealthy club owner, gave his daughter many freedoms that not many young women had at the time. He spoiled her rotten; she always had the flashiest clothes in Louisiana. This definitely put a target on her back. But her father had that covered. When she was seventeen, she began to demand more freedoms than she already had. Luna was very beautiful; she had a lightly golden-brown skin tone, the most gorgeous head of curly hair anyone has ever seen, and amazing pale blue eyes.

Her father knew she was special, so she decided to ask him to allow her to freely walk the streets. He wasn't the most pleased. Up until she was seventeen, she was able to wear anything she wanted and say whatever she wanted under the protection of her father’s men. Ever since her mother’s death, he tightened his hold on her. He made sure that she only left the house when permitted by him. After copious amounts of arguing, he finally agreed to allow her to roam the streets of Sourwater.

The city was riddled with crime, however, so he assigned her three bodyguards that were around her age. He was a powerful and well-known man, but since his wife’s murder, he hasn’t been the same. He was once a kind and bubbly man, Fred, but then he became cold and calculating, doing whatever he felt he needed to. He had a lot of enemies, and he knew his daughter had no shortage of them. He assigned some kids that worked for him to watch over Luna. They wanted a taste of his power, so they obliged. He assigned Sebastian St. Germain, Marie Dubois, and Charles Lacroix to watch over Luna.

The four quickly grew an unbreakable bond; they were around each other 24/7. Unbeknownst to her father, Sebastian began to develop feelings for Luna. Those feelings were mutual; after she expressed her feelings for him, he gifted her a necklace with a thick gold heart pendant that had a heart-shaped ruby in the center of it. She accepted it gratefully, and when her father asked about it, she said that she went out and bought it herself. She knew her father would have been furious if he knew she and Sebastian had feelings for each other. Her life was perfect until she was eighteen and a half years old. She had begun working at her father’s club “LaRose” one night, and the club was packed from corner to corner and wall to wall.

There were two stories and only one entrance. one way in, and only one way out. The place was crawling with Fredrick’s goons. She was behind the bar when a loud sound halted the lively crowd. Someone had kicked the door open. A group of people wearing eerie, yet colorful masks appeared out of nowhere. They then began to unload a cruel wave of unforgiving bullets that plagued the whole club. Luna dove, she had a knife with a deep red handle on it behind the bar. She grabbed it and ran towards the stairs that were near her on her left. Upstairs was the VIP section, where a good amount of illegal activity took place. It was also the location of Fredrick's office.

(There were multiple witnesses that survived.)

When she got upstairs, she frantically explained what was going on downstairs, but it was too late. By the time everyone upstairs understood her, someone who was wearing a mask precisely shot his men. He had a gun in his hand, which was shot out of his hand, and Fredrick was then grabbed. Marie and Charles came out of a back room with pistols in hand. They have warned him not to kill Fredrick. Luna watched as her father was shot and killed. They then exchanged blows until the masked person shot Charles in the leg. Marie was able to pistol-whip the masked person, but it wasn’t very effective. He began to strangle her. Luna grabbed her knife and plunged it into their arm. The masked person swung their arm back, knocking out Luna in the process. The masked person finished off Charles and Marie before slowly approaching a groggy Luna.

The person slowly took off the mask as they said, “What’s wrong, doll face?” Her vision was blurry, but she knew that voice. As her vision settled, she was able to see the deceitful face that belonged to none other than Sebastian St. Germain. Soon, other masked people filled the room surrounding her. He took out a huge and terrifying dagger and pressed it against her rosy cheek. This was when he gave her two options: either join him in taking over the club scene of Louisiana or be killed along with everyone else she loved. Her thoughts raced aggressively as she decided that she had no other choice but to join him. She was then forced to marry him; he took most of her money, wanting to leave her dependent and submissive.

Knowing she hated him; he often pushed her buttons; an example of this is when he implemented a rule saying that she could never take off the necklace he gave her. His people were always watching her, and even though she began to hate the golden noose, she remembered her father and his ambition. She knew that if she was going to escape Sebastian, she was going to have to play the long game, and believe me, she did just that. She made him think that she was beginning to love him. She realized that the more she loved him, the more resources and freedom she received. Over the next three years, he grew one of the biggest drug empires in Louisiana. However, he wasn’t alone; Luna was his right-hand woman.

She quickly gained his trust and started making business decisions with him. Like her father, she was very calculating, and she could also be just as cold. When she was twenty-one, she convinced Sebastian to rob one of the most protected banks in the south. Only a fool would do it, and she knew that. She timed everything out perfectly. She and Sebastian led a group of masked soldiers into the bank; however, she had written a letter to the head marshal about this. So right before she got into the bank, she took a hard right to go towards the side of the building. She had smuggled away cash and valuables in the alley. Sebastian began to look for her in the chaos, but he quickly realized that he was being set up. But at the time, he didn’t know who could’ve done it. He barely escaped, and once he did, he put a search party out for two people: Luna and the person who set him up. Little did he know that he was only looking for one person. She had fled to different cities in Louisiana.

Sebastian realized her betrayal and was out for blood. He had sent people for her before, and she did what she had to escape their grasp. She had been on the run for almost a year.

One night she was sleeping in a dingy motel room when she had a very realistic dream. There she was with her father, and one minute she was happy. Then she realized that the heart-shaped necklace, which she still wore, began to scorch her skin. She wakes up from this dream and instinctively rips off the necklace. She threw it across the room; it broke in half but wasn’t broken.

It opened to reveal a picture of the man she’s been running from this whole time, Sebastian. She spent all this time running away from him, only to find out she was carrying him around with her the whole time. In the midst of her shock, her door gets kicked down. It was three of Sebastian’s assassins; they've been trailing her for weeks. She pulled out a small white handgun and shot them dead, with no hesitation or remorse.

As she got ready to flee into the night again, she heard a slow clapping. She turned to see a dark shadow at her doorstep, and as she looked harder, she saw it was Sebastian. He grabbed her by the throat and began to choke her. He noticed the broken necklace on the ground and tightened his unforgiving grip.

She was almost lifeless, but she remembered something. She sticks her thumb in his eye, causing him to let go of her. She grabs her red-handled knife from underneath the floorboards and slams it through his chest, penetrating his already tainted and damaged heart. She looked into his soulless eyes and said, “What’s wrong, doll face?” She then grabbed his blood and wrote “Luna LaBelle is DEAD” all over the mildew-colored walls.

And that’s the end, baby; they never found her or her body, and it’s been about sixty years; thank you for stopping by... Oh, so you want to know why I know so much about Luna LaBelle?

Baby, I’m her.

But now that you know...

*Silenced gunshots blared*

I can't recall seeing a story with an ending like that before, addressed directly to the reader, very cool! I also enjoyed your description of the necklace as a golden noose.
