Sayemontess- Cries in the Dark
Part One- Screams
Josiah made it just three more days. On his sixth day alive, he died. Sudden infant death syndrome-or so they thought. As Josiah’s mother grieved from the northern colonies, her cries could be heard all around the planet. Stephanie woke up Phillip.
“Do you hear that? Do you hear those screams? Wake up!” She said as she shook him awake.
“What is it?” Phillip said as he acknowledged his anger at being woken up.
“Someone. Somewhere. Screaming from the colonies in the north. What if it is a battle cry, and they are on the attack? All we have are handmade tents, freshwater fish, and potatoes! No castle for protection. Dear Lord!” She said as she hyperventilated hysterically.
Phillip thought about slapping Stephanie. He thought she was having another fit, but the next thing that came out of her mouth was a punch right to Phillip’s gut.
“I’m pregnant- just so you know. I just found out.” She said as she grabbed onto Phillip. “Perhaps it will be a boy. He could take over one day. Oh, the screams! Will somebody put that wench out of her misery?”
And, just like that, the wench stopped crying. Perhaps Stephanie had some control. Perhaps she could be the next great leader.
Part Two- Wrath
As Josiah had passed on, his mother who was always known as Sweet Meredith, became one to fear. Stay out of her way! Witchcraft! She will get you if you spite her. Her blood boiled when she thought of Sayemontess- a land that once belonged to her ancestors. It would be hers now. Oh, yes, it would.
Part Three- The Collapse, and Renewal
It had been quite some time since the castle at Sayemontess fell due to horrific earthquakes. Oh, that beautiful castle! The showers! Oh, Sayemontess! With the small population becoming smaller, it was time to rebuild, so, one brick at a time, they did it. We only lost two beautiful citizens who were painting the gargoyles. They fell to their deaths, which actually was a peaceful way to go in Sayemontess.
Part Four- The Peaceful Fireflies that Sparkled Densely in the Dark
There were many of them. They were everywhere! Thousands of them! They were harmless, and the fireflies lit up the sky like the northern lights. They moved in perfect patterns that made everyone want to do their favorite homegrown drugs while they watched the bugs put on a show for they needed entertainment. Soon, Sweet Meredith, and her beasts would soon invade Sayemontess. Just wait. You have no idea what crafts Sweet Meredith has up her giant, witchy sleeves! Death! Death to Sayemontess!
Part Five- Phillip Jr.
Phillip Jr. was cuter than his father. Just saying. His birth came quickly. Much sooner than nine months, but he was perfect in every way. It only took them two months to potty-train him, and the beautiful citizens took to him greatly.
“Rise up! Little man! Rise up as fast as you can!” They chanted in desperation. They needed him. They needed an heir to the throne!
Suddenly, to the shock of the citizens, Phillip Jr. grew to a perfect height in two weeks after the great chanting. It had worked! All loved Phillip Jr., but Stephanie grew jealous of her son. She wanted the power over the people of Sayemontess! She would even fight him if she had to. Not even Sweet Meredith would get to rule the new castle. No one but Stephanie. No one!
Part Six- Sweet Meredith Strikes with Her Beasts
“Oracle! Oh, blessed Oracle! Come hither!” Shouted Sweet Meredith- who was not as sweet as she seemed, and just like that, the Oracle appeared dressed all in black, and she listened to every word Sweet Meredith had to say. It was time. The Oracle agreed. It was now time to take down Sayemontess!
“Conquer and destroy!” Sweet Meredith ordered of the beasts. “Tonight, we feast in Sayemontess! Surely they have plenty of freshwater fish in their mote just waiting for a belly in need of nourishment. Perhaps some salad greens, and potatoes. Now, onward all! Capture everyone, but bring me back Phillip Jr. alive.” Yes, she knew about him. “I think I shall want to see his parents, too.”
Part Seven- Stephanie and Phillip
On this night, Stephanie awoke again to the sound of screaming. She woke up Phillip.
“It’s happening! It’s happening again. Someone screaming in the distance! What if it is a battle cry this time? We have no defense! We’ll all be taken away. Oh Lord, anything but stocks! I just don’t want the stocks!” Stephanie exclaimed as she hyperventilated again.
The screaming grew louder, and closer to Stephanie and Phillip’s tent that was inconveniently placed on the outskirts of camp far away from all of the other beautiful citizens that were left.
Phillip Jr. entered the tent carrying firewood that he had chopped all by himself. His language had not yet caught up with him, and his sex drive was not where his parents wanted it to be. They had dreams of a large family, but these dreams would never become reality.
Phillip Jr., not even a month old, knew Sayemontess like the back of his hand. He actually got along with the creatures and insects that dwelled there long before humans had arrived. He loved them. He sang to them a song once banned in Sayemontess. The Bristol Christ. A beautiful, Cornish hymn. He sang it to them in secret, and because of this, they would protect him, and only him, as the beasts, and Sweet Meredith, approached.
Part Eight- It Was Time
Sweet Meredith, and her beasts, swiftly took over the camp at Sayemontess. First, they captured Stephanie and Phillip. Stephanie was brave, but when the beasts pulled out the tar and feathers- her heart began to race. Phillip cried as they stripped poor Phillip Jr. before them.
“Don’t worry, son.” One of the beasts said. “She wants you all back alive, but we just want to have a little fun with you before you are delivered to our new leader- The Great Meredith.”
”Will you let them live, please?” Phillip Jr. begged to no response.
Part Nine- From Sweet to Great
The Great Meredith liked her new name. She felt she should have been called that all along. Meredith entered the tent where they had captured the two Phillips, and Stephanie, and Stephanie wanted out!
“How dare you invade our camp, humiliate our son, and threaten to tar and feather us. You may have us all outnumbered, but your time will come.” Said Stephanie quite sternly. “Soon, I will wear the crown at Sayemontess. Soon, you will all bow to me!”
The Great Meredith did have an interesting, groveling voice, and the words that came out of her mouth- people dreaded to hear.
“Tar the bitch. Use lots and lots of feathers!”
This made Phillip cry more, but, as the tar boiled, the creatures and insects of Sayemontess entered the camp to protect Phillip Jr., who sang a new song they had never heard before. A song he had made up on the spot. A song of perfection. This shocked his parents as they did not know that he had learned how to sing. Was his song going to save them? Nope!
As the creatures and insects protected Phillip Jr., The Great Meredith slathered Stephanie and Phillip in tar as retaliation for Stephanie speaking out, and for Phillip crying too damn much, but Phillip Jr., was too young to be attached to his parents, so he allowed for them to be tarred and feathered, and run out on a rail left to die. At least Stephanie did not have to suffer in the stocks. She would never get the power that she had expected, and poor Phillip cried himself to death as the beasts placed his charred body on the rail.
It was the end of Stephanie, and Phillip, but Phillip Jr. lived on. Protected by the creatures and insects, he marched out of the tent naked, and unafraid.
“I will get you, kid!” The Great Meredith shouted after him, but he continued onward towards the west hoping to be done with Sayemontess. He did not want to rule like Stephanie. No, he did not.
Part Ten- The Turning
The Great Meredith was Great no more. She had failed. She swore she would stop at nothing to take over Sayemontess. She swore it! But the creatures and insects prevailed. Phillip Jr., now wandered naked accompanied by his little protectors, and Meredith was now just Meredith, and the beasts turned on her in the blink of an eye. The beasts never resolved to cannibalism, but Meredith was looking pretty tasty, so one beast bit her arm, and another beast took a bite, too! She did not scream. She just stood there in shock, and she took it. Bite after bite, and the bitch went down. Bite after bite, her head hit the ground. Then, bite after bite, Meredith had no remains except for a few chiseled up bones and muscles left to rot on the plains.
Part Eleven- Get the Fuck Out
As Phillip Jr. approached the western gates, the beasts were fleeing back up north where they belonged. They liked it there. It was colder. Fuck Meredith, and her awful ideas. Who needed a castle? Who needed nice, hot showers? Who needed Sayemontess? Meredith did try hard, but not hard enough. She never got what she desired. Neither did Stephanie, and as Phillip Jr. exited Sayemontess, the few beautiful citizens left standing realized they were once more at a loss of having an heir to their throne.
