Trusting the unworthy

"Waking up to see my dad has left me was the most painful thing to ever happen to me". Tolani said.

She was completely overwhelmed with pain waking up to see the man who makes her happy gone so soon. Tolani being a motherless young adult,never knew her mother. Amope(Tolani's mother) died immediately after giving birth to Tolani.

Tolani's father died on d day she clocked 15. After the death of Mr Felix (Tolani's father), Tolani was the rightful inheritor of the properties of her father, but a condition was attached. Before the death of her father, Tolani was very close with her father and he shared Lots of his pains with her. Tolani was in Senior secondary class 1 when her father died. Tolani had a crush among the students when her father was still alive and was about getting into a relationship with him. She then informed her dad about the guy, then her father told her" been in a relationship at a very tender age can be quite testing, do you know the meaning of derailment". Tolani said No. Then Mr Felix said " it is a situation where by a train leaves its tracks accidentally, same goes for you if you allow yourself to be drawn into the pool of relationship well, you may drown, it will affect your academic status and may give you set backs ".

A quote by Hoda Kotb says" life is a series of baby steps" he said. Mr Felix continues by saying " you have to do things step by step when it's time for a relationship your body will tell, so never jump into conclusion".

Few days to Tolani's exam, Tolani reported an issue to her father about her classmates bullying her, she said she was called name due to her short stature names like baby penguin, short woman devil, her father told her never to worry herself because giving names to each other is common among students, but when they try to attack her she should report to the school authorities.

Tolani never had a permanent future ambition, her first ambition was to become a Navy officer, but due to deaths of Navy officers in the insurgent war, she changed her mind to become a Fashionista but because of too much exposure she changed her mind. She wanted to become a well known Lawyer and Activist like her father before he later died.She refused to change her mind from the day Her father died. Her father was always there for Her whenever she needed him, he gave her so much care, disciplined her when needed and made her maintain her academic success. Tolani was a bright student who represented her school in so many competitions and came out on top.

According to their family culture, once a child isn't up to 25 he/she cannot take charge of the properties until he/she reaches 25. So Tolani had to wait for 10 years before she could be the rightful owner of the properties. Someone has to be in charge for 10 years.

Tolani had an uncle named Alex who she loved and trusted most, Alex was asked to take charge of the properties for 10 years in which he will be the one to care for Tolani, Alex quickly accepted. Alex wasn't financially self sufficient but was kind hearted. Tolani was very happy her uncle was going to take care of her.

Alex haven taken full charge of the properties, gave Tolani all the care she needed. Tolani was even thinking of later dividing the properties into two.

But things started to change when a certain issue occurred.

Tolani made contact with her second uncle who was much interested in the properties. After Tolani left John's house. John made some statements he said " Alex just keeps enjoying my brothers wealth, I need to taste they wealthiness " . John started visiting Alex concurrently, He(John) started studying the security status of Alex's house for his plans.

John gained Tolani's trust, making Tolani think Alex is trying to kill her and later take charge of the properties. So in order to cover his deceit John assassinated Alex and His entire family and bribed the Police to silence the matter.

John after gaining access to the properties and with few years left for Tolani to clock 25 years , started his devilish plans on how to make the properties his forever. John then made contact with traffickers and tried to sell her. Tolani was told she was going for a seminar. Tolani too trusting quickly believed John. Unknowingly Tolani was sold to another country to serve as a slave. Still thinking her Uncle, John would come to her rescue put a call through to Him one day and was shocked to hear what John said. He said " You are so gullible to believe I would hand over the properties I am living on, well I ain't gonna do that, so continue serving well, I am responsible for the death of your uncle, I made you trust me, well guess what, your death is lurking enjoy your preparation to visit you father and mother in heaven (laughs)". Tolani on hearing this broke down in tears and made a statement " I trusted the unworthy, I made myself look stupid, I turned my back on my helper, if I ever got the chance to change things I won't make this mistake again".

After 5 years in slavery with a year left for her to clock 25 years, Tolani had a dream about her miraculous release from slavery. Later in the year,Tolani was freed from slavery and was sent back home. On getting home she was rehabilitated, she spent a year in the rehabilitation centre and then went back to her uncle and made him realise he would suffer for his deeds.

After her rehabilitation, Tolani applied for adult education and went to school to study Law, graduating with good grades, Tolani was called to bar. Tolani fully being a Lawyer,filed a case against John charging him with murder of Her uncle and His family and Human trafficking . Tolani on winning the case acquired back her properties, and John was sentenced to 40 years imprisonment.

Tolani went on to become the first female Chief Justice in her country.
