A news article from 2098 uncovering the origins of Earth's war with Planet 147B

The global devastations of the Third World War left the world in ruins. There were no victories, only people left traumatized. Major cities had been obliterated and many countries' governments broke down. There was a need for unity and a new world order, leading to the election of the president of Earth in the year 2054. Under the president’s leadership, the world was able to build itself back up and for the first time in human history Earth was completely at peace. This new form of world government proved to be very effective for decades after the end of the war. 

During the 2080’s, Oliver Moore took office as the 4th president of Earth. Moore was a trusted and respected leader loved by billions of people. This was a time of advanced space travel and technological innovation. In the year 2085, President Moore sent a team consisting of scientists, astronauts and soldiers into space to explore a recently discovered planet called Planet 147B. While on Planet 147B, the team was in direct contact with Moore and under his strict instruction. The team made an amazing discovery, a plant native to Planet 147B by the name of aloxium. Moore instructed the team to take an aloxium plant back to Earth for further study. The aloxium plant contained chemical properties never seen on Earth. With the aloxium plant, Moore’s team of scientists were able to develop the first working time machine. Because Moore’s team only took one aloxium plant from Planet 147B, they only had enough to make one time machine. It was decided that President Moore should be the only one with access to the time machine for security reasons. Moore announced to the public that he would travel in time to the future to see what challenges will face Earth. He claimed that this would allow him to take necessary precautions to prevent those challenges from happening when he returned to the present. The whole world supported this idea, people saw Moore as a hero with everyone's best interests in mind. 

In December 2087, Moore returned to the present from his trip into the future and announced that he would give a speech about what he saw. The world awaited this speech with excitement and optimism, but unfortunately the speech took a turn for the worse. Moore announced that there is an alien population on Planet 147B who declared war with Earth over the aloxium plant. Moore’s team testified that they did not encounter any aliens on their trip to the planet and did not know of their existence. Moore described these aliens as bloodthirsty and unreasonable with a petty grudge against Earth. He said that the aliens will sneak attack Earth in the year 2090 and leave the planet as devastated as it was after the third world war. This sent terror and shock throughout the world, but Moore claimed he had a plan. He said that since he now knows that this attack will happen, he can attack them first and prevent them from ever reaching Earth. He declared that Earth should go to war with Planet 147B for its own protection and to save millions of human lives. The war had unwavering support from people all around the world. They trusted Moore’s leadership and formed the largest all-volunteer army in human history. 

The war soon began to Earth’s advantage. Moore formed a strong attack strategy that the aliens did not see coming. He ordered the troops to bring back as many aloxium plants as they could from the war, he claimed that the aliens could use the plant to make weapons against Earth. He also claimed that he could use the plant to create advanced technology that would protect Earth. 

Moore’s right-hand man was a loyal and passionate politician named Charlie Savy. During the war, Moore accompanied the troops to Planet 147B to oversee the military bases on the planet and left Savy in charge on Earth. One day, Moore called Savy from Planet 147B and told Savy to fax him documents containing war strategies that Moore wanted to go over with his military officers. He told Savy that the documents were on his computer in his presidential office. While looking for these documents Savy saw something that caught his eye, Moore’s time travel journal. Curiosity overtook him, he was very interested in what Moore saw on his trip to the future and thought that learning about his trip could give insight into how to defeat the aliens. What Savy read in the journal horrified him. Moore had written that the aliens on Planet 147B were a “peaceful species that was interested in forming an alliance with Earth and trading with Earth”. Moore wrote that “even though they were willing to trade with Earth, they would not give Earth any aloxium plants because aloxium is their main energy source and is scarce throughout the planet”. Moore came up with an entire plan to start a war with Planet 147B to take their aloxium plants. He planned on gaining support for the war by manipulating people and using their fear to turn them against the aliens. 

Upon reading Moore’s journal, Savy was devastated. He knew he had to end the war and the only way to do that was to expose Moore for the fraud that he was. In a frenzy, Savy attempted to fax Moore’s journal to every military officer and news outlet he could. Unfortunately, due to the advanced technology and security system on Moore’s computer, nothing could be faxed without Moore’s approval. Moore got a notification of what Savy was doing on his computer and immediately informed his security that Savy had gone rouge and was trying to tamper with Moore’s war strategies. Moore gave an order to have Savy quickly executed before he set foot out of the office. Moore announced to the public that Savy was a terrorist that had been manipulating him. People saw Moore as a hero for “catching” Savy and defending the world against a villain. The support and love for Moore grew as the war continued.
