General

Hailey stood by the window overlooking the woods, the trees were covered with white snow casting a solemn aura around the environment. It was early January and winter had set in, the chilly wind blew over her face making her wrap her arms around her body shifting her weight to the left foot which caused the wooden floor to moan in protest. She was at the Greenhouse cabin, a winter cabin situated in the woods on the Greenhouse property.

She knew he'd be back anytime soon and her heart raced wildly. Just thinking about him made the blood in her veins hum more in panic than excitement, coming to this winter cabin was totally not her idea and she wished it'd end before it begun.

Sam stood in the doorway, logs of wood in his hands watching her by the window so lost in deep thoughts. She was swaying, oblivious to his presence. He seized that opportunity to feed on her physique. She was slender with minimal curves accentuating her body, her blond hair cascaded down her back giving her an angelic appearance, her fingers were slender and soft, how many times those fingers traced his body, he shook his head as the thoughts built. Her lips were lush and creamy, he envisioned himself sucking on them while she moaned into in mouth. The desire in his loins grew, causing him to become irritated at how he still wanted her despite the years that passed. He banged the door in annoyance making her startle nervously, her eyes darting everywhere but his face. She whimpered a greeting which he ignored, still in the heat of anger, and tromp noisily to the fireplace overlooking the little dining, leaving trails of snow from his working boots, and dumped the woods there. He struck a match and the woods cackled, a fiery red flame sprouting to life. He stripped to his underpants leaving his clothes in a heap on the wooden floor and strode to the bathroom housing the bath tub, his jaw set in a tight line.

The evening passed rather slowly, each vaguely aware of the other's haunting presence yet careful enough to avoid it. Unspoken words lurked in the air like a charm of hummingbirds stalling for the perfect moment to attack.

Hailey wrapped herself more securely with the duvet as she positioned herself in front of the fireplace, a book in her hands and two slices of apple pie next to her. She picked one and nibbled on absentmindedly, lost in the book she was reading.

She felt him before she saw him.

He eased himself slowly unto the floor beside her, cloaked with uncertainty. He knew he'd blown things out of proportion. It wasn't her fault, that he was vaguely aware of. He moved closer to her and felt her tense at first before relaxing into his embrace. He cupped her cheek and turned her to face him, his eyes glazed with undefined emotions. He traced the contours of her face, her skin silky under his touch. She leaned into his touch, muttering incoherently as a breathy sigh escaped her lips. Sam drew her closer to him, his fingers kneading into the small of her back, relishing the sensual feeling of having her melt completely into him. God! How he had missed her. Their lips were within hairsbreadth from each other now, their body tangled in passionate exploration. Sam made to capture her lips when she spoke the words that froze him on the spot, his hands paused in disbelief like an undecided ghost.

''I'm sorry Sam, I love someone else''

He knew just then that he had lost her for good.

The winter wind blew more fiercely now, unaware of the two hurting souls tucked away in a wooden cabin, each nursing a personal heartache.
