WRITER'S NOTE: This is a revised free-verse poem called, "My Firefly" by Sean to his wife when they were dating. Please enjoy.

'It is nights like these that make my nightly strolls all worth it,' I have always said.

For as long as I can remember, I have been taking my nightly strolls whenever I get a chance.

It's walks like this that helps clear my head.

Especially after a long stressful day that life often likes throwing at me.

Either that being 8-10 hour day at work, paying the neverending bills, and/or the dating scene...

The whole nine yards of how great it is to be an adult, am I right!?

I, of course have my essentials with me as I journey through the night.

Phone, check.

Keys, check.

Wallet, check.

That's all a man really needs.

I have been during the same old nightly stroll routine until one night, I decided to take a different way.

You are probably thinking that was a bad idea.

At first, yeah but there more to it and I'll get there.

During these strolls, I always admired the night sky, especially with the moon and stars out.

When I was a little lad, astrology always fascinates me.

Just the fact that there's a billions upon billions of stars made my mind explode.

How each one makes different consonations makes me all intrigued.

And how the North Star is always there to guide me or anyone whenever we have gotten ourselves lost.

For the longest time, that North Star was always my reliable friend to guide me until one day, it didn't.

Apparently the North Star has other plans and decided to not show up one night.

(The same night I took a different routine, mind you.)

I should have checked to see if the North Star was out before I started, but I was already too anxious to clear my mind from a long, exhausting day.

Somehow I ended up in the middle of a forest of sorts.

I don't know where else to go.

All I could see where trees everywhere.

I checked my phone but it was completely dead.

Weird, cause I normally always charge my phone before my strolls.

Today of all days, I had no phone to help me out.

Go figure.

Getting lost is no joke though.

Not only did the North Star decide not to show up, but so did his billions of friends.

There was no star out in the empty sky.

They must have went to sleep at once.

This is so nerve wracking.

How am I to get back home safely?

I'm completely and utterly lost in this unknown forest.

As I look into the night sky once more, I can see a lone firefly coming my way.

Which took me off guard because normally fireflies come in groups.

But this one was out on it's own.

I wondered if it was lost too.

Little kid me would have done the repulsive act to catch it in a jar.

But as of now, I'm a full grown adult and have no jar to begin with.

As it came close, I couldn't help but admire it.

It was the most beautiful firefly I had ever seen for it didn't bright like the normal yellow glow.

This one instead gave me more of a pink color to my eyes.

The firefly came up to me and circled around me.

It must have taking a liking to me.

I have been told in my life that I'm pretty good with animals.

But never was I told about an insect or in this case: a firefly.

The firefly went in front of me and started to sway as if it wanted to dance.

I bowed at it and it responded with it own cutesy using it's light.

"Can you please help me? I've lost my way." I asked the kind and intelligent firefly.

It replied by flying up and down indicating a glowing nod for my behalf.

The firefly with a pink light then showed me the way through the forest.

We went this and that, crossing the forest as we pass trees and small streams of water.

Not a word was spoken which was fine by me.

I do enjoy some silence every once in awhile.

Even though this was my first time meeting this unique firefly, I actually felt I could trust it.

More than the the North Star and it's countless of friends.

Some constellations you all are.

I got myself my own personal compass thanks to this firefly.

Never would have imagined that I would be following a firefly with a different kind of glow to show me the way back home.

Eventually the firefly and I made it out of the forest.

I can now see the street I used to take on my nightly strolls.

I next turn to the firefly and say: "thank you so much, dear friend."

The friendly insect said "you're welcome" in it's own way through the firefly language.

It then flies the opposite way afterwards.

"Wait!" I called out to it.

It stop and from what I saw it even turned it's entire body.

"When will I see you again?" I asked.

"Soon" was what I heard but I didn't know if it was from the firefly or a sudden wind.

Before I could second guess it, I heard something else.

Like a phone chiming.

'Was that my phone?' I asked this myself.

I pulled out my phone and when I had done so, I wasn't outside doing a nightly stroll anymore.

No, instead I was still in bed as I happen to woke up with the sound of my phone.

"Was that all a dream?" I asked myself this out loud.

I then turn my head to my phone which happens to be on my bedside charging at this moment of realization.

The next thing I did was pull the charging plug off and check my phone.

There was a notification of a match found on Facebook Dating.

I tab the notification and it lead me to my match.

She was the most beautiful woman I have ever seen and we both shared the same interests.

Couldn't help but feel like she was someone I already knew.

I next proceed to match with her and then we started to talk shortly after.

Eventually we set up our first date after talking for a couple of weeks and when I first saw her, she had this warming glow about her.

A warming glow all too familiar.

I can't even recall but this woman was shining brightly than anyone I ever known.

Even the stars nor the moon could out match her.

For I am her traveler, while she is my firefly.

Forever and always.

To My Beloved Wife aka "My Firefly":

"No matter how far or much long we are apart, you will always be a part of me.

For you are my light who always knows how to shine my way through even for the darkest of days.

Leeny Bun, you will always be my firefly no matter what life throws at me.

One that burns a bright even the stars can't even combine or come close to your brightness.

For you are my firefly through the night sky.

Forever and always your one and only: Seanny Bear."
