When I’m not working crazy hours, I enjoy quiet evenings at home with my three cats, jynx, nico, and spooky, reading a good book or streaming a good show.

“Hmm. Swipe left.”

Every nights a party night! I go until the sun comes up. If you can’t keep up, keep on scrolling.

“Okay, then, to the left you go.”

Must love kids. I have three of them. I don’t need a man, but I would like to have someone special in my life who’s a real man.

“No thanks. Left.”

Currently going to school to be a writer. I love traveling, hiking, biking, camping, kayaking, swimming, archery, and horseback riding. If you’re the type of person who loves the outdoors, send me a message.

“Definitely swiping right on you.”

“You have a match! Send Sarah C. a message.”

“Hi, Sarah, this is Kyle A. I see that we are a match on findtheone.com. Do you have time to chat?”

“Yes, I do! How are you?”

“I’m excited and a little nervous at the same time. You’re the first person I’ve ever talked to on one of these dating sites.”

“No need to be nervous. I’ve been on a few. They’re all the same. I haven’t had much luck, but I’m hopeful.”

“Your profile says you like to travel.”

“Yep. I’ve already been to twenty of the fifty states, including Hawaii.”

“I’m jealous of that. I’ve been to Rocky Mountain National Park on a hiking trip with my buddies. We did some white-water rafting while we were there.”

“That must have been an amazing trip.”

“The Smoky Mountains are next.”

“Maybe if we hit it off, you can take me.”

“Let’s find out. You free Friday night?

“Yep.”

“How about a little dinner and dancing?”

“Seriously? That would be wonderful. I’ll send you my address. Pick me up at seven.”

Kyle’s nerves wrack his bones. He doesn’t date much and never anybody he’s never met before. He pulls up to Sara’s house precisely at seven with a bouquet of lilies, feeling they are more appropriate for a first date than roses. He checks his hair in the mirror before taking a deep breath to calm his nerves. He puts on a false mask of self-confidence and steps out of the car. He climbs the steps to Sarah’s home and before he can knock on the door, one of Sarah’s roommates opens the door.

“You must be Kyle, Sarah’s date. Hold on, I’ll get her.”

As Kyle waits on the front porch worrying about the sweat forming underneath his jacket, he hears the roommate yell for Sarah. After a few moments, the door pops open and Kyle’s breath is taken away by Sarah's beauty. He had only seen her profile picture, which was a cute picture of her with her hair pulled through a ball cap, red faced like she had been running. Seeing her now, all dressed up, she is a ten in his mind and someone he would have never approached in person.

“These are for you,” Kyle says, timidly.

Sarah takes a deep breath and touches her chest with her fingertips at the sight of the flowers, surprised by the gift. She turns to the girls standing in the doorway who are whispering and giggling and asks if one of them will get a vase for her. The girl who answered the door takes the flowers from her and disappears. Gingerly, Kyle offers the crook of his arm and asks Sarah if she is ready to leave. She smiles brightly and takes his arm, waving goodbye to her friends.

At the restaurant, Kyle is beaming with pride to have such an exquisite woman on his arm. He hangs onto every word she says, finding her both beautiful and intelligent. There is something about her that makes her seem wise beyond her years to Kyle and he finds it enthralling. They share their dinners, and they drink their wine, laughing as they flirt and joke with one another. Kyle wonders why he was ever nervous. The two of them have much in common, from the activities they enjoy to their opinions on politics and religion to the way they both grew up. He can tell she is having a good time. She gently touches him here and there as they talk, smiling as much as he does. Once the wine is gone, they leave for the club.

They enter the club and cannot hear each other talk. There’s a thud, thud, thud rhythm to the music that you can’t hear over. They head over to the bar for their first drink of the evening then hit the dance floor. Sarah is a very provocative dancer, teasing Kyle with her body and lips. After a few more drinks, she finally makes her move and kisses him, long and hard in the middle of the dance floor. The two continue to drink and dance until the music stops and the lights come on. Kyle feels his head spinning and Sarah is obviously drunk. He guides her to the car and gets her inside. By the time he gets behind the wheel, she’s asleep. He takes a deep breath and focuses his eyes before driving back to her place.

Sarah wakes when the car stops and invites Kyle to go inside. Kyle politely declines on account of how much she has had to drink and her being so tired. Sarah is insistent and entices Kyle to accept her invitation. Kyle helps Sarah out of the car and up the steps to the door where she fishes her keys from her handbag, letting them in.

Kyle walks in and wanders into the living room. “Nice place you have here. It’s very spacious.”

“Thanks,” Sarah says as she uses her key to lock the door from the inside. “Do you want to go upstairs,” she asks, approaching him and pressing herself against him. After a quick kiss, he nods yes, and she leads the way.

When they get to her room, Sarah closes the door and is suddenly sober. She shoves Kyle down on the bed and roughly removes his clothes. Kyle tries to slow her down. She hisses at him, baring fangs. In a panic, Kyle scatters off the opposite side of the bed and goes for the window. It’s nailed shut. Sarah tackles him to the floor and the two wrestle until Kyle breaks free and runs for the door. He heads for the stairs where one of Sarah’s roommates is coming up. She looks at Kyle, hisses, and bares her fangs while getting in a defensive position, refusing to let him leave. Kyle kicks her in the chest, sending her rolling down the stairs. At the bottom, Kyle jumps over her and fights to get the door open. As the roommate struggles to her feet, Kyle runs to the kitchen hoping to find a back door. In the kitchen is another roommate who runs straight at him. Thinking quickly, Kyle grabs a chair from the table and hits her with it, dropping her to the floor. He runs past her to the mud room and finds the back door locked. He goes back into the kitchen, grabs the chair, and tries to break the kitchen window. The girl from the stairs jumps on his back and sinks her fangs into his neck. Kyle thrashes, trying to get her off his back. He grabs her by the hair and flips her onto the table, a chunk of his neck going with her. He hears a screech from behind him. He turns to look, and Sarah tackles him to the floor. The girl he hit with the chair grabs his wrists. The girl on the table rolls off and grabs his ankles. Sarah lays across him and bites his neck. Kyle fights, occasionally getting his hands and legs free to punch, kick, knee, and elbow, but the three girls are relentless. Two more roommates show up and subdue him. Two girls start drinking from his wrists, two drink from his inner thighs, and Sarah continues to suck on his neck. Kyle squirms, but he is helpless under the weight of five women. He is bleeding out. Slowly he weakens. Slowly he tires. Slowly he falls asleep.

"I'll send you my address" Big red flag on a first interaction! And the pivotal moment when the horror struck... brutal. Yep, still out there, no changing the bait. Scary stuff.

One more reason I would never use a dating app. 🤣 The ending was better than if he got away - the huntress still on the prowl. Great story 👍
