In the beginning, everything seemed just fine. A big city full of many people big and small. It felt like a normal day. Everything was happening as usual. Until something clicked. A sound louder than an airplane but one only few could hear spread throughout the whole entire city. The lights flashed, and suddenly, no one could see.
For a few seconds, no one could feel a thing. They all had blacked out and felt like they were falling. Everyone awoke in one room. It had a wonderful view from a penthouse building. All of the people had been crammed in this tiny space for what felt like hours. Truthfully, it had only been a few minutes.
"Where are we?" Said, one person.
"Who knows." Said another.
No one knew where they were or if they even knew the others around them. They were left in the dark with nowhere to go, nothing to eat, drink, or do.
After a few hours, many people had fallen ill. Only the chosen few still felt completely fine.
"We need to do something. We can't just stay here forever."
"Do we even have a choice? Have you looked around? Half of these people are ill, throwing up, or can't even move! We won't have a chance of making it out alive."
The people knew their time was running short. One person though, had the brains to realize something was in the air. A dark scent. Something that no one would suspect to possibly hurt them. This one person decided to make a plan. They plugged their nose before they could possibly have infused the scent. The person walked towards the one window over many people either asleep or ill. Once they arrived, they decided to do something no one would ever think to do. They jumped.
This person realized the whole world they lived in was merely a dream. They knew they had no other choice. They couldn't have the same fate as all the other people. This one, single, person, could have saved an entire community. Yet, they decided to save themselves. Only themselves and no one else. They truly were selfish. Or, were they being smart?
Maybe if this one person thought just a bit more, the human race could have had a happy ending. This all started due to a blackout. A darkness that spread among a whole city due to one click. A click chosen people had heard. Maybe they could have been smarter. Maybe, they could have warned people of what was to come. Or maybe, they didn't know what was to come. Due to a blackout many things ended, not just humans.
Everything was dark. Around the whole city everything was pitch black. No one could see a thing. People got hurt. Darkness truly can ruin a lot of things. People finally became aware of the darkness. They became aware of what has happened. They learned to live with it. That one person who jumped out a window who supposedly thought "The whole world they lived in was merely a dream." was wrong. People learned to live with the darkness that surrounded them constantly. Now, maybe if the person who jumped thought for just a second what may happen, they would have discovered the consequences.
Maybe, the human race didn't end. The city full of darkness possibly became a tourist attraction. People would come from around the world to see the famous "City of Darkness". Clouds filled the sky constantly and people were always somehow amazed by it. But, what if, the clouds continued filling the sky. Not just the sky of the city, but the whole entire world.
People started truly panicking. No one had ever dealt with this before. Scientists were stumped with the new phenomenon spreading throughout the world. People raced to discover what was happening. They didn't know if it could possibly kill them. At this point, they all thought they were doomed.
What were they going to do? No one really knew. Time was running out. People were going crazy. Then, the world flipped. Everything went silent. Everything went darker if that was possible. Then, it was over. The whole world.
It was over.
It all came tumbling down. One thing, then another. Object by object, person by person. It was absolute chaos. All of this was happening in darkness. No one could see what was truly happening. They could only feel it. It hurt to know that everything that had been built upon and worked for was being destroyed. Everything that humans had worked for was gone. Everything, all the hard work, all the research, all the buildings, all because of darkness.
This darkness truly was destroying everything. No one ever knew the world could come to this point. Everyone always used to think darkness was a sweet and innocent thing. A place where made-up creatures would lurk. A place where kids could let their imaginations go wild even if it frightened them. Finally, after millions of years of being this thing that everyone thought was okay, it was finally destroying the world.
People wandered aimlessly wondering when their time to go would be. Maybe it would be in a minute, an hour, a month, or a year. They couldn't predict the future. The future would come slowly for these people as they were still in darkness.
After the supposed "Destroying of the World" people still lived on. They figured out how to live in the darkness. Even how to embrace it.
Some stories come to an end quickly. This one doesn't truly have an end. People continued on. Learning more and more. Months and years would fly by so quickly people wouldn't even realize they had passed. People eventually adapted to the darkness. They found ways to work, to try, to live. Even though the whole entire world had changed and humanity almost had a downfall, they continued on. Now just think, and go back a minute. This all happened due to one thing.
