I wonder what the year 2000 would be like? Will there be flying cars? or will robots replace the lives of humans? These questions fill the mind of 15-year-old Trish Stevens as she lays on the bright green grass in the backyard of her Beverly Hills Home.
25-year-old Claire Thomas is a dramatic soap opera actress who listens to the messages that her dreams entail. Claire is sitting in her dressing room sharing a bottle of red wine with her soon-to-be ex-boyfriend. "I had a dream last night, David." "Oh, yeah? and what was it about?' "It was about you." "And what happened in this dream involving me?" " David, you know that the year 2000 is right around the corner?" "Of course, I do. How can I not know when that is all you talk to me about." "Well, I would like to make some changes. I don't know what this year will be like? I mean we are entering a new century." "Yes, we are. But, I don't like to talk about the future too much. It is not here yet." "Oh, but, it will be." David finishes the last drop of wine that sits in his wine glass. "You still haven't told me about this dream, Claire." Claire clears her throat and sits up straight before telling David the heartbreaking news. "David, I believe you and I should be no more." "What? Are you breaking up with me?" " My dream told me that you are no good. In this dream that I had you were kissing some anonymous woman." David's eyes pop out of their socket. "I need to clean my closet. I don't want any extra baggage following me into the new century, so I must let you go. I am sorry that things had to end like this but it's what I must do." David takes off his hat and holds it close to his chest. "Well, you made your bed, I just hope you can lay in it." Goodbye, Claire."
28-year-old Julia is a mother of three, and her plan for preparing for the new century involves getting an official makeover. Julia stands in the mirror in her bathroom examining her body. "I need to lose this weight! It is about to be the year 2000 I need the change." Julia's husband Kyle opens the door to the bathroom and gently rubs her shoulder. "What are you doing? Breakfast is on the table." Julia turns away from the mirror and wraps her arms around her husband's neck. "Honey, I've been thinking about getting a makeover. It's been two years since I had our third baby and I want to feel good about myself again," "Does this have anything to do with the new year arriving?" Julia shakes her head no. " Ok, I am lying, maybe." Kyle kisses Julia on her forehead and walks out of the bathroom. Julia trails behind him to see if she can say a little more to change his mind. "Wait, babe, I am serious! I want to prepare for the new century and by doing that I would like to get a liposuction."
"Why? You look great the way you are." Julia folds her arms. "It is easy for you to say. You didn't have to carry our 3 children for 9 months. Look at my stomach it is so stretchy! Or what about my saggy boobs?" Kyle reaches for Julia's boobs but Julia smacks his hands away. "Could you at least think about it?"
"Ok, I will think about it but I honestly don't see the point of you doing this." "Thank you, babe, tell the kids I will be down for breakfast in just a second."
15-year-old Trish stands in her bedroom thinking about what needs to be thrown away before the new year arrives. "It is time for me to take down this Clarisra Knows it all poster and replace it with someone sexy maybe Christina Aguilera or Britney Spears" Trish's mom Sally slightly knocks on her open bedroom door. "Sweetie, what are you doing to your room?" "Mom, I am preparing for the new year." Sally glances at the open trash bag that lies in the middle of Trish's floor and sees a Melissa Joan Hart poster. "By throwing away a good Clarissa knows-it-all poster?' Trish sighs before answering her mother. "That poster is so 1994!!" "So? '94 was just 5 years ago." "I don't want the poster anymore. I am thinking about getting a Britney Spears poster." "Ok, we'll have to see about that."
"What is there to think about? I will be turning 16 years old next year I need to have a more grown-up-looking bedroom." Sally softly giggles. "Honey, what Adults do you know that has a poster of Britney Spears hanging on their bedroom wall? I am going to have to say none!!" Trish becomes frustrated with her mom. "Mom, can you please leave I am trying to focus." "Ok, But, I want you to know something. Don't rush to grow up because in about 10 years or so you are going to miss that poster of Melissa Joan Hart Poster and this bedroom." "Hopefully, I'll be married with children by then."
"Let's hope, but seriously think about what I just said" "Wait, Mom before you go, I have to ask you something. Are you afraid of the year 2000?" "What do you mean?" Trish flops on her bed. "Like do you think it'll be flying cars or robots?" "No, I don't think so what a silly way to think of the new year." "It's not silly that is what kids in school's been saying. Just wondering if you heard any adults saying the same things." "No, honey, that it is just kid talk." "Mom, I am not a kid, I am a teenager it is very different." "Yes, it is, I am sorry. I'll leave you to your remolding."
Claire is in her townhouse throwing away photos of her and David when a friend of her's named Rose opens the door to her home.
"Hey, Claire." "Oh, Rose, come on in."
Rose looks at the photos in the trash bag near Claire. "Why are you throwing out those photos of you and David?"
"Because David and I are no longer together."
"Why is that?"
"My dream told me so."
"Your dream?"
"Yes, my dream. You know how important my dreams are to me and when I have them I listen to the messages that they are trying to tell me."
"What exactly did this dream tell you about David."
"That he was cheating on me with some woman."
"Oh, how did David take the news?"
"Not well, but I have to remove anyone in my life that is not in my best interest. It will be the year 2000 in 2 days."
"Oh, poor David."
"Poor David? What about me? Aren't you supposed to care about my feelings more since I am your friend?"
"Oh, Claire, I do care about your feelings very much. It's just a sad thing to hear."
"Well, How do you think I feel? I loved him with all my heart but before I had this dream something in my gut was telling me that something was off with him and this relationship but I just couldn't put my finger on it. Then that night I had a dream and it clarified what I've been feeling all along."
