Science Fiction

Today was the day I had been dreading the most in my entire life. Today was the day, I, Angela Maxwell, had to go to the moon for a special solo project from my company, NASA . Since I was the 'star or the MVP of the year' and all that other nonsense, I was chosen to go to the moon in a rocket and when I arrived there, I had to see, and find out whether any other forms of life existed on the moon or not. And after that, I had to find out whether the moon had any mineral deposits and all that. Wow, I may have won MVP of the year, but going in a rocket is CERTAINLY not my idea of fun since, believe it or not, I was deathly afraid of going to the moon or getting launched into space in a rocket. I dove inside my closet and I hid myself when I heard my doorbell ring. The ringing got more impatient and finally stopped as I let out a sigh of relief, but alas, I celebrated too soon because the next thing I knew, someone had KICKED open my back door, as I heard footsteps approaching my bedroom, they opened my closet door and that's when I was shocked like a deer caught in headlights! For my BROTHER was the one who opened the door. "Angela, what in the world are you doing in your closet when you know you have a space shuttle to board?!'' asked Beck as he pulled me out impatiently, threw a NASA uniform at my face and told me to get dressed. My parents were currently on a business trip so they told me that they couldn't make it for my departure but they said they'd come when I came back. Well, I've seen plenty of movies where the space shuttle either explodes or crashes or something and the people inside won't make it out alive. I told that to my parents who just said, ''Its okay honey, don't over exaggerate and your going to be fine'' and I thought, ''wow that's the biggest lie told to every single person going to space''. I'm scared of rockets, scared of meeting cranky aliens who will blast me just for saying a 'hi', scared of getting hit by an asteroid and even scared of being lost in space. And being claustrophobic does not help in the situation I am in right now. My brother drove me to the venue where the rocket was just standing there and there were civilians who saw me go and started to gape at me like as if, I were some sort of unique piece of moonrock that got dropped from the moon. I'll admit that I did get pretty famous since my picture appeared in the newspapers as the next person to go to the moon. I was beginning to feel like this mission was like the Hunger Games. My brother gave me one last quick hug, told me all sorts of tips in case there was something wrong with my air craft and all that other boring stuff. I boarded the space craft and when it took off, I'll admit that I screamed like my head was on fire and closed my eyes. When it came to a halt, I opened my eyes and that was the biggest mistake I had made in my life. I saw that I was launched into the orbit of the Earth but I thought that I was lost so I started panicking and just then, the surveillance team's boss, Matthew Green, appeared on a monitor in front of me. He told me to stop panicking and he told me where I was, and I had to steer the rocket the now. I was just a scientist who designed satellites and stuff but here I was, trying to steer a rocket. I did take a few classes on how to steer a huge giant piece of metal and I've even attended some simulation scenarios as well, so I gathered my courage and I started to steer the rocket after I unfastened my seat belt that is. I saw a really huge manual sitting next to me, and when I opened it, I tried to understand what it said, but it looked like all the words and the diagrams were swimming out from the book and slapping me on my face. I made sure that I still had oxygen left, because I did NOT want to run of oxygen before I even left the orbit of the Earth. I reached the moon after 3 days, and I felt kind of proud of myself because it's been 3 days since I read a book, or had junk food, or saw any videos on You tube, since wi-fi doesn't work in space. This was the LONGEST I had gone without checking videos. My space craft landed on the moon and after I grabbed the necessary and required tools for my expedition, I went down. I saw the Earth and all the stars and almost the entire universe from the moon and I was like, 'wow' but at the same time, I also wanted a barf bag. I heard some swift movement behind me but when I turned back, I couldn't see a thing. I thought it was just the wind but I just remembered; The moon doesn't have an atmosphere around it and it has NO wind!! That's when I got a bit worried since I didn't want some random something to chomp my head off. I started cursing everyone under my breath who were making me do this silly thing as I walked here and there, trying to find my mysterious visitor. I gave up after like, 20 minutes and I called Matthew and told him about it. He told me that if I did manage to see what it was, I was supposed to get a couple of shots on the camera, along with a backdrop of whether there were any new mineral deposits on the moon or not. I found an abandoned space ship a few hours later and I started getting nervous since I thought that an alien had attacked the people inside there. I went closer and when I saw the logo, I started feeling scared since it was another organization's space craft. I snapped a couple of photos, sent it to Matthew and asked him if I could come back and send someone else in my place instead, but he told me to stay strong and bear it but he also told me that no organization other than NASA had launched any solo expeditions last year and he would look into it immediately. '' Moron'' I grumbled after he cut the call. I found out that the moon DID have one more unidentified mineral deposit in its land and when I took a sample, it started glowing like kryptonite except, this was in purple. I heard a movement behind me again and this time, when I looked around to see what it was, I saw an ACTUAL alien or a ROBOT or something and I started freaking out. I pulled out a laser gun I had in case of an emergency and I was about to fire like crazy and that's when the 'thing' yelled out in a human voice to stop. I was literally dumbfounded and 'it' removed its head and I was speechless to see a guy just standing there. He told me his name was Ken Williams and he got into a space craft since he wanted to visit the moon. When I told him that NASA hadn't launched any missions last year, he came clean with the truth and told me that he was an ILLEGAL astronaut who was biding his time to develop a BOMB to blow up the moon! I was shocked, and I started to fire at him but he just escaped all of my shots and ran away to find out where my spacecraft was, but not before he destroyed my communicator and now, I couldn't call Matthew and the rest of the surveillance team. He tied me up with some ropes, wished me luck for not running out of oxygen, and guess what he came up with as a parting gift? He buried a BOMB in the ground and the moon would blow up within HALF-AN-HOUR!!! I was so furious with myself and him and I tried to escape while he started hunting for my space craft. Wow, who knew, I'd meet a crazy lunatic who wanted to blow up the moon in the middle of nowhere? Just then, a weird looking creature came to my help. It was black, kind of like a jelly shaped amoeba and basically, it was like a blob. I had already pretty much given up hope of me getting out of here alive and at this point, I highly doubted if anything could surprise me anymore. Even a dancing alien in an oversized jacket with a tacky white hat couldn't baffle me. But the alien that helped me was friendly, even though I couldn't understand what it was saying. It was a smooth resonance of mysterious noises. After it blasted me from my ropes (not blasting me of course), it pulled out the bomb from the ground and just blasted it. Then, it went to that abandoned space shuttle I'd found and covered it with it's body, and voila!! The rocket was FIXED!! I was really gratified and I tried to take a shot through the camera, but it just let out a tentacle and snapped my camera in half. And that's when I got the impression that it didn't want me to expose it to mankind. I nodded and bowed down to say thank you and it made a series of noises and I guessed that it was saying welcome. Then, one tentacle wrapped me, picked me up like a feather, pushed me inside that fixed shuttle, shut the door and blasted it from the back. I braced for impact and soon, I was back in the universe. I missed the friendly alien who helped me already. I used to think that aliens didn't exist, but after I met him or her, I changed my perspective. I caught up with the rocket stealer, pushed a random button on the controller and a huge grabber arm popped out of it. I grabbed the shuttle and made my way to Earth because, now ENOUGH WAS ENOUGH!! I got attacked by a FAKE alien and a REAL alien had to save me. I got the coordinates of the NASA headquarters and we were in for a rough landing. We were about to hit that place at a really high speed and velocity, and we would have also been roasted alive like baked potatoes in a microwave, had it not been to Matthew's quick thinking. He gave orders to everyone to activate the tractor beams and within a few seconds, 2 space shuttles were floating in the air. After I told the story to Matthew and the rest of the authorities (but not before, I got a good smoothie to drink) , they dragged out that fake astronaut and arrested him. I didn't tell people about my mysterious alien friend and I went home and got changed. My parents and my brother welcomed me back home and I had a relaxing day. When it was time for me to go bed, I looked out of my window and saw all the stars and the entire night sky shining beautifully. Just a few hours ago, I had been there and I was proud of myself of facing all my fears. And was it just me, or was the moon shining more brightly than usual? I fell asleep after a while, promising to keep my secret friend a secret from rest of humanity as I recalled how an alien had saved and helped me from a spot of trouble, in the nick of time........
