The Morgan family, your typical American family. There is papa Morgan, mama Morgan, brother Daniel, little sis Mia. then there is me the middle sister Emily. Today is family fun day or as the parents like to call it, Morgan family day.
Today begins like any other day. The parents wake-up first. Mom singing. Dad joining in singing off key. Could it get any more embarrassing. Apparently it can.
Mom and dad going up and down the hallway, waking us up. I put my pillow over my head to drown out the noise. Too late. Mom is in my room singing.
I throw my pillow at her. Need more sleep. My mom continues to sing. I finally get up and give my mom the evil eye. She smiles and leaves.
I love my parents but sometimes they are annoying. I hop in the shower. Now I'm singing. Damn! I caught the singing bug from my mom.
I'm out of the shower still singing. I dry myself off and get dress. I fix my hair and pack my bag for today's big family fun day.
Who knows what my parents have plan for today? So, I pack for everything. I leave my room and meet Daniel.
My poor big brother hates waking up early in the morning. Mia must be with the folks. I follow Daniel down stairs.
Little laughter is coming from the kitchen. That is Mia. Mia's laughter is so infectious. She is sitting on the kitchen stool. My dad making funny faces. I begin to laugh. Daniel groans. He's very grumpy.
Breakfast is ready. Mom sings. Me and Daniel take our seats. Mom made her famous pancakes. I have mine with chocolate chips. Mia has her pancakes in the shape of animals. Daniel has his plain.
Mom and dad sit in their chairs. We eat in silence for a while. My parents are humming. Mia is making funny faces. Daniel is rolling his eyes. Me moaning in pleasure eating this good food.
Daniel breaks the silence and asks the folks "What are we doing today?" The folks look at each other. What are they thinking?
"It's a surprise." Dad's surprises are crazy. This past winter he took us camping. It was cold and snowing. The temperature was below zero but we had fun, lots of fun.
We finish eating. Mom and dad are doing the dishes. They are both dancing. Mom is a good dancer. Dad looks like a dancing clown. Mia joins the folks. Mia is the cutest little thing.
Me and Daniel are watching them. I'm getting the itch to dance. Daniel shakes his head and goes to the couch. I can't help myself. I join my parents and Mia. I dance just like my dad.
"Who's ready for Morgan family fun day?" My dad yells. Me, mom and Mia yell "We are." I grab my bag and race to the car with Mia. Daniel lags behind us.
I see my parents racing out of the house like little kids. My parents are nuts. I help Mia inside the car. Daniel gets in the back. I sit next to Mia. Mom gets in the passenger seat and dad gets in the driver's seat.
"Where are we going?" Daniel asks. I look at Mia. She is giddy with excitement. Now I'm getting excited. Mia is rubbing off on me.
"Today is all about surprises, my boy." That sounds just like dad. Mom turns the radio on. Once again, the folks begin to sing. Mia joins in. Then I join in. Daniel stays quiet.
Mom, dad, Mia and myself continue to sing when my dad pulls into a parking lot. I look out the window. The sign reads The Batting cages. I look dad. He parks the car and shuts it off.
"First stop on our family fun day is the batting cages." I look at Daniel. He has a surprise look on his face. Daniel is a big baseball fan. This should be fun.
"Really?" My brother has a big smile on his face. My dad nods. We get out of the car.I help Mia out. We walk calmly to the entrance. We walk inside. Dad pays for a full hour.
We follow dad to the last cage. "My boy, you go first." Daniel puts the helmet on and grabs a bat. He steps into the cage.
The machine starts. The balls are flying out. Daniel hits the first ball. Then the second and third. He keeps on hitting the ball. Daniel is good.
Next up after Daniel is me. I can't hit the ball. I'm not as good as Daniel. I missed so many times I can't count. I had fun despite me missing.
My baby sis is next. She looks so adorable in the helmet. Dad puts the machine at a slow pace. Mia is too cute for words. She's hitting the ball and dancing. We all laugh.
Mom and dad are next. Mom terrible at swinging the bat. She looks like a monkey swinging a bat. Dad doesn't fare any better. He looks like a clown again. The parents are too much.
Us Morgan's know how to laugh at each other. We are a crazy bunch. Okay, so we are done at the batting cage. I had a lot of fun. Daniel and Mia did too.
I wonder where we are going next. Dad opens the car. I help Mia in. Daniel gets in the back. I sit next to Mia. Mom and dad get in their seats.
Dad starts the car. "Ready for our next adventure?" We all yell "Yes." Dad drives out of the parking lot. Mom turns the radio on. We all begin to sing including Daniel. Dad drives onto the highway.
I read the signs. Turtle Beach 2 miles. I slap a smile on my face. I open the window. The smell of the ocean is hitting me. I love the ocean.
Turtle Beach one mile. I'm jumping in my seat with excitement. "Go faster dad." My dad puts foot to the pedal.
Me and Mia are giggling. Daniel is laughing. We are nearing the beach. Dad gets off the exit. He turns right and pulls into the parking lot.
Dad parks and shuts the car off. I eagerly get out of the car. I help Mia out followed by Daniel, mom and dad. We go to the changing rooms to change into our bathing suits.
I finish changing and help Mia. All done. Mom is waiting for us. We go outside to find dad and Daniel. We find them renting surfboards for us and a boogie board for Mia.
"Let's hit the water." Dad yells. We grab our boards and race to the water. I go under and come back up. I swim to Mia and help her onto the board. She smiles and says thank you.
I look over at my parents and Daniel. Mom is sitting on her board watching dad and laughing. I look at my dad. He's too funny. He gets on the board and immediately falls into the water.
I can't help but laugh. Daniel is not faring any better. He falling into the water just like dad. Me on the other am having fun riding the waves. I catch a wave. I hear my family cheering me on.
My baby sis is yelling "Go Emily. Go Emily." I lift my hands in the air as I ride the wave. I fall into the water and swim to my family. "You were amazing." I hug my mom.
Fun is the name of the game. That's what us Morgan's are having in the water. I help Mia onto her board. Her smile is as big as the ocean. Dad and Daniel keep falling off of their boards. Mom laughing hysterically. Me and Mia shaking our heads.
It's time for lunch. Daniel go to the shake shack. They come back with burgers and shakes. We grab the food and begin to eat. I wonder what's next.
"Daddy, where are we going next?" Mia jumps up and down. Mia and surprises are never a good combination. My dad has never been able to resist Mia's puppy dog eyes.
Me, mom and Daniel laugh at dad trying to resist Mia. He couldn't, "We are going dancing." Mia's eyes light up. Mia loves to dance. Lunch is over. To the car we go.
Dad drives back onto the highway. Mia is chatting excitedly about dancing. She can't wait to get on the dance floor. Daniel looks nervously at me. He does not like dancing. I tell him "Don't worry.: He nods.
Mia continues to talk. She looks at me and gives me a toothy smile. "You going to dance with me sis." How can I say no to her cute little face. "I can't wait." She turns to Daniel. "Me too."
Dad takes the fifth exit. He turns left and continues to drive. For another ten minutes dad drives then he pulls into a parking lot.
I can still smell the ocean water. I look around. So does mom, Mia and Daniel. We can't find the dance studio. We look at dad.
Dad parks the car and shuts it off. "Let's go dancing." We get out of the car and follow dad. We walk another block. "Here are." It's a dance studio unlike any I have ever seen. It looks so cool.
The dance studio is located on a big boat. The sign read the dancing boat. Mia is jumping up and down. We follow dad up the ramp. The dance instructor greets us. "Ready to dance." We nod.
The captain comes out and waves at us. He begins to take the boat out. We watch the boat leave the marina. Cindy, the dance instructor turns the radio on. Mia beings to dance. My parents follow. Next is me. I urge Daniel to dance.
This is so much fun. I shake my head at dad. He's too funny for words. Daniel dances just like dad. I see a small smile on his face. Mia is too much. She's going crazy.
Mom is elegant as ever. She's a beautiful dancer. I dance just as crazy as dad and Daniel. Cindy joins us. We dance the day away. I hear Daniel laughing so hard. I love every moment of this.
The Morgan family. What can I say. We are who we are. We are weird and quirky. We like to do crazy things as a family. This is who we are. I don't want to change anything about us. We are on a dancing boat. It can't get any better than this. I love my family.
