Message Me
Suzanne Marsh
The snow was swirling, I was bored with everything and everyone. I did not want anyone in my life to complicate it. My girlfriend had just dumped me for my brother, so here I was, a month before Valentine’s Day, the ring I was going to give her still in its red velvet box. I decided it was time to look else where, a dead end relationship was where I found myself. The thought of being alone for the rest of my life did not seem fair, I had just turned twenty-one. I heard a ping on my email so for lack of anything else to do, I opened it. That began the love story I am about to tell.
Unknown; Message Me
Me: Who are you?
Unknown: Am messaging Sarah
Me: You have the wrong person
Unknown: Sorry
I thought that was the end of a conversation with an unknown, I had no idea if it we a male or female. I thought about that for several moments, then decided to send another message.
Me: Hey who are you? My name is Christian, what is yours?
Unknown: Jenny
Me: My friends call me Chris.
Jenny: Nice to meet you Chris.
Me: Nice to meet you too Jenny or as my messenger
said Unknown.
I stuck for anything else to say:
Jenny: Unknown huh?
Me: Yep, Hey what is your favorite movie?
Jenny: You’ve Got Mail
Me: Me too. I had no idea what the movie was about only that it was Tom Hank’s movie.
How was I going to seem knowledgeable about some movie I had never watched. I quickly ‘Goggle” You’ve Got Mail. I watch the trailer, it is simply fluff. This is favorite movie, I am beginning to think I would have been smarter to tell her favorite movie was another Tom Hank's movie: ”The Money Pit”. I guess I would just have to guess how You/be Got Mail story line could have been presented. Jenny, the unknown, sent another message:
Jenny: What is your favorite scene?” ‘Oh wonderful’ I thought, I saw something about the final scene and decided that was the answer, once over she would not ask any more questions.
Me: The ending was about what I thought it would be.
Jenny: I thought the ending was sweet when he tells her he loves her.
Now at least I had an idea of where this was going, she liked romantic comedies, I like adventure. Here was a real combination, although romance and adventure sometimes work well together. I sat there pensively hoping she would not realize that I had never seen the movie and really had no desire to do so. I only had to wait a few minutes before she dinged again:
Jenny: Hey how would you describe yourself? Tall, short, lean, pudgy, blond, blue eyed or dark
brown eyes and brooding?”
This was pushing me to my limitations, I am not good at describing myself to begin with, it is not my strong suit. I thought a few minutes before responding:
Me: I am six foot two, muscular with brooding brown eyes and hair, and yourself?
Jenny: I am all of five foot, blond, blue eyes
I read that and decided she would be worth getting to know, she had a sense of humor. Humor for me is something I like in any person I am friends with. I proceeded:
Me: We certainly would make an interesting pair, the tall and short
Jenny: Yes, we would. I see you have a sense of humor also, yes I like that in any
friendship.
Things were looking promising, I wondered where these emails would eventually lead. I still was attempting wrap my head around my brother and Kate. I trusted them both, guess life is a live and learn deal. I thought for a few seconds, then began:
Me: My girlfriend dumped me for my brother, so if I get defensive about questions you ask
that is the primary reason.”
Jenny: Then she wasn’t much of a girlfriend, your brother needs to find out about her for
himself. If she dumped you she will no doubt dump your brother.”
Me: You are right, I never would have thought about it that way, I just would have continued
to brood.
Jenny: Glad it helped, I don’t have a boyfriend at the moment. I was engaged but my
fiance was KIA in Afghanistan. I am over the shock now but we had something
good.
Me: I am sorry for your loss, what happened?
Jenny: He was engaged in battle, a sniper killed him.
Me: We have both had a hard several months at least.
Jenny: Yes, but now maybe things will be better for us both. I hope so, I am not good at
being alone.
I was very impressed with her from the beginning when she first pinged, I wanted to ask her out. I also wanted to be cautious, I wasn’t sure I could have it both ways but I was going to try. We continued to message each other for the next three weeks.
Me: I have the same problem, I don’t want to be alone the rest of my life. I would like
to meet you in person at some juncture.
Jenny: I would like that too. We have been messaging for almost three weeks. Does it always
take you this long to ask a girl out?
Me: No, but I like taking my time, my former girlfriend I asked out as soon as I met her. I
did not take to to get to know her, then I stupidly asked her to marry me. You
know the rest. Jenny, would you go out with me for Valentine’s Day?”
Jenny: Yes, I would love to.
Me: Send me your address, I will pick up at six, we are going to the Old Red Mill.
Jenny: 4755 Lakeview Drive. Six would be great and I love the Old Red Mill.
I was ecstatic, I felt like I was on top of the world. I couldn’t wait to meet her in person. I picked up her and six o’clock, She is a beautiful blond with blues eyes, she is about five feet. I fell in love with her on line and she with me. We have been married for three years now. “message me” went from unknown to Jenny to my beautiful wife.

A sweet story about two people who had been hurt by past loves, one by the choices and the other by unfortunate circumstances. They both meet online and decide to give love another chance. This time with a successful ending. I like that despite Jenny’s traumatic past and every reason to be broody herself she is actually quite the positive person and pulls out MC out of his own downward spiral. Thanks for the story!
