Inspirational

It's the first day of my new job and it's going worse than I expected! For starters, my cat unplugged my alarm clock. I was dreaming of the ultimate fantasy when the amount of sleep I was getting woke me up. I looked over at my alarm clock and it wasn't on. I looked at my phone and the clock read 9:00. I jumped out of bed and got dressed like my life depended on it. It really did considering this job determined if I was sleeping in a bed or a box for the next thirty days. I ran downstairs to make a quick breakfast. I was moving so fast and spilled juice on some of my papers. I yelled and attempted to dry them off. I threw a bagel in the toaster while I ate another. I spilled jelly on my white dress shirt and didn't notice until I was in the car. I rushed back inside to change my shirt. The pot of coffee began overflowing but I didn't have time to fix it. I pulled out of the driveway and headed to the highway. The first five minutes were good until I looked death right in the eye. The traffic on the highway stretched a mile long. It looked as if all the cars were piled on top of each other. I weaved around like a drunk driver; trying to make a way out. There was nonstop honking and people yelling out their windows. The traffic got so bad to where an officer had to step out and conduct traffic. There was so much madness and all I could think of was my job interview. It was 9:15 which meant I had forty-five minutes to reach my destination across town. It all seemed impossible with the amount of traffic ahead. There was no way for me to get out so I decided to play the waiting game. It was 9:25 and although I managed to get a little way down the highway, there was still heavy traffic. I called ahead and explained to the manager that I was stuck in a traffic jam and his only response was " Accountability breeds responsibility, if you can't make it here on time I'll have to give the position to the runner up". I wasn't okay with letting someone else live out my dream so I decided to take action. I honked profusely and shoved my way through traffic for the next fifteen minutes. It worked and I was able to take an exit but I was forced to take a longer way around. I sped through traffic trying to make it on time but also trying to avoid the cops. I was ten minutes away when suddenly I felt my car wobbling so I pulled over and checked it out. Turns out I caught a flat. I looked at the GPS and saw that my destination was ten minutes away. With twenty minutes of time left, I ran the rest of the way. I ran down the street with a briefcase and a purpose. I managed to make it to the building six minutes early. I walked in and looked in the mirror to be sure I didn't look like a mess. I was directed into an office where five men sat at a table. The manager thanked me for making it on time and asked what happened. I told him about the morning I was having but included how I determined I was. I can tell they were impressed which was good for me. I finished out the rest of the interview and after showing off some of my work, I got the job as a cartoonist. The manager (Tim) thanked me for showing up and said he looked forward to seeing me Monday. I walked out of the building and exploded with joy. I was excited but I knew I could do it. I remembered my car and rushed to it. Just as I was approaching, I saw a tow truck attempting to take my car away. I explained to them what happened and said I could move the car now. They agreed but said I needed to move it now. I took the spare tire out of the trunk and swapped the wheels. I got into my car and just before I could pull off, there was a ticket on the windshield. That kind of ticked me off but at least I got the job and my car. I pulled off and went back home. When I pulled into the garage, I heard the smoke alarms going off. I walked inside and the house was filled with smoke. I ran in and unplugged the toaster. The bagel inside was burnt and the smell filled the entire house. I wondered how long this was going on but didn't have the time to really think about it. I walked outside to throw the toaster away and the fire department was parked in front of my house. They said they got a call from the neighbor about a potential fire. I told them it was a misunderstanding and I had it under control. They were nice guys and didn't give me a hard time about it. I spent the day running errands, giving my house enough time for the smoke to clear out. I went out and got a new toaster and other supplies for my first day of work. I got into my car and headed back home. There was construction being done on the road I usually take so I took a detour. I got on the highway just like before and saw the same devil. The traffic was so bad. The first time around had nothing on this. There were so many cars and semi-trucks I knew I wasn't making it home anytime soon. I expected it to be a rush-hour type thing but this time it was a car accident. The ambulance sirens were blaring loud as ever. Just like before people were honking their horns trying to get through. It was so bad that people tried rushing through and began hitting people's cars. There was so much going on I began thinking maybe I should have stayed home. After an hour and a half, I made it home. My house was clear of smoke but the smell stayed. I sat out air fresheners and began working on a new piece for my first day. I knew this would blow their mind but that's a story for another day.
