You'd never guess by looking at it, but our world used to be a lot different. The year is 2120 and most of the world has died off due to chemical warfare that happened in 2065. In those 55 years most animals have become extinct, our oceans have dried up, and only 5% of the human race is still alive and we now live in domed cities.

My great grandfather, we call him Paw Paw, loves telling us about his childhood. Back in those days he said that there were no walls, no domes over the cities, no recycled air, and no under ground tunnels to visit other cities. It used to be wide open skies, fresh clean air, and More animals than the you could even dream of. He even told me he had a pet dog once. I've only ever seen stuffed dogs before, but you can hear them howling outside of the walls at all hours of the night. Unfortunately we can't go out and see them. The animals that are still left have mutated and are able to survive the new state of the planet. Human have become the inferior species on his planet, but I guess we kind of deserved that after our years of literally destroying the Earth.

I loved listening to his stories about traveling the world, those were my favorite ones. He told me about a building that was so tall you could see the whole city form a top it, He said it was called "The Empire State Building" and was located in The New York. He also told us about this place called "Kalifornia" that was said to be the city of dreams. If you went there with a dream it came true. I wish I could go there I'd wish for the world to be as it used to be.

He would also tell me about different technologies of his world. once told me about a device that you would carry in your pocket and you could talk to people and send them messages from across the world, but then would say these devices would be the downfall of us all which didn't make sense to me to me at the time.

Another time he told me about this thing called an "Eye Pad" (no it didn't have an eye, I asked.) and said you could use it to play games, take pictures, videos, and listen to music anywhere you wanted. I thought for the longest time that he was lying to me about it until I found one in the local trash dump.

There was once story though that he told me that truly horrified me, he calls it D-Day, the day our world was flipped up side down.

He said that it all started June 26, 2065. HE said our world was pretty much run by technology. social media controlled our lives and everyone walked with their noses in their devices. All our countries had joined together and united for the peoples sake. Everyone was equal, we had one currency, all spoke one language, and they were even working on road ways to connect the continents. The only threat was a terrorist organization that called themselves The Usurpers. They wanted to go back to separate governments for each country, people to be classified by social standards, and races to be separated and back at war with each other, but everyone was so obsessed with the latest video trend.

On this day, The Usurpers bombed all of the nuclear power plants on earth causing nuclear reactors to combust all at once. how they were able to pull it off is still a mystery to this day. All the people In the surrounding cities were dead within a month. Before anyone could even assess the situation the radiation has sunk down into the ground water contaminating the whole planet. For the next ten years people became sick. New more evasive cancers appeared taking thousands of lives. New diseases came claiming many different species, many of which became extinct. That's when they started working on the Domes. Originally they were meant for the animals and plant life as a way to preserve what life was still thriving.

In 2070 sea levels began to drop drastically, scientists were baffled and had no explanation for the cause of it. within five year all seven oceans were nothing but puddles. By 2074 the oceans were all but gone.

In 2075 they discovered that male infertility was sky rocketing. They then would forcefully take males between the age of 16-50 and test them. if they were found to be fertile, they were sent to milking farms to harvest their seed. then women would be "volunteered" to be impregnated to up the child birth percentile, but unfortunately 1 our of 4 babies was either still born or mutated.

In 2080 scientist discovered that the trees were sucking up the contaminated ground water, and it was releasing poison into the air that was killing people. After about 5 years the Acid rain came that was literally, like acid. If you were caught in the rain, if you live through it, would be like someone pouring sulfuric acid over your head. that's when the decided to move into the domes.

Unfortunately, there were only 100 or so made in the world so getting into one was hard. that's when humanity's true colors came out. People were pushing, shoving and killing each other to guarantee their place in the Domes. Women and children were trampled or captured for slaves of all nature. Once they filled the Domes to full capacitation, humans began destroying the ecosystems within the domes. they would either eat all the vegetation and animals within their biomes or simply herd the animals out of the domes. Eventually humans established farms, gardens, and ranches within their biomes. They eventually started to thrive.

By 2100 they started making underground tunnels connecting other domes for trade. They traded food, crops, and sometimes women and children to adjust populations.

As for right now things are okay within our domes, and as much as wish I could see this world my Paw Paw talks about so fondly, I'm thankful for my peaceful life here, but I'm fearful for when the dome cant protect us anymore, and were forced to deal with the changes of the outside world.
