This is a story like no other. It is not about a boy and a girl, or good versus evil, or even mortal enemies becoming friends. This story is one that comes with a twist. However, you will have to wait and see what that twist is. All will be revealed in due time. Anyway, enough intro, let the story begin. Roy Simmons, a twenty-two-year-old man, wanted for murder, ran through the streets, with the police hot on his tail. He did his best to get away. He turned his head back to see how far the police were from him. When he did this however, he failed to see what was right in front of him and ran straight into a metal pole as hard as possible and fell unconscious. The police rushed over, put cuffs on Roy’s hands, and took him to the hospital. When the doctors were finished with him, they told the officers that Roy had endured some head trauma, and a definite concussion. When Roy awoke, he spoke to the doctor.
“Where am I? What happened?” Roy asked the doctor.
“You were in an accident. You have a concussion, but other than that, we believe you will be fine. Can you tell me your name?” The doctor asked him.
“My name is…I… don’t… know…I-I can’t remember!” Roy said with a sudden panic in his face.
“Are you sure that you can’t remember?” The doctor asked.
“Yeah… why am I wearing handcuffs?” Roy asked with confusion on his face.
“You are wanted for murder. All the evidence led to you, so the police are going to be taking you, and you will be going to court for trial in the morning,” The doctor replied.
“But doc… how am I supposed to stand trial for a crime that I don’t remember committing, I mean I can’t even remember my name!” Roy exclaimed distressed.
“I don’t know, but your name is Roy,” The doctor said as they left to speak to the police. The doctor tried to convince the officers to leave Roy in the hospital, but they seemed convinced that Roy was faking the amnesia to escape his sentence, so they took him to the jail for the night.
“Officers, you must understand, I don’t even remember any of it! The crime, the chase, my injury! You have to believe me! Please just tell me what I did, and how I did it! I swear I do not remember anything!!!” Roy exclaimed.
“I suppose you need me to also remind you to brush your teeth, and how to tie your shoes! I am not falling for your pity ploy Roy!” The one police exclaimed sarcastically as he left the room. There was a lady officer however, and she stayed behind.
“I don’t know if I fully believe you or not, but I will tell you why you are here, in case you are telling the truth. You are wanted for the murder of a guy named Shay Hartley. His body was found inside your house, on the kitchen floor. He had a knife in his chest, and he had evidentially been stabbed. The knife had your fingerprints all over it. We also have reason to believe that you and the victim were in a confrontation the day prior, which ended very heated. When the police tried to come ask you about it and take you in, you ran, and got hurt, and then you know the rest of the story. If you are telling the truth about this amnesia, I am truly sorry for your predicament, and I wish you the best in the court tomorrow,” the officer said as she walked out, with compassion in her eyes. The night went by, and the morning came, and they were all now in the court room.
“Everyone please rise,” the judge said to the jury as he had them all swear their oath. The defendant and his lawyer as well as the prosecutor and his client were there. The judge told the prosecutor to begin, so he and his client whispered back and forth for a moment.
“I would like to call the defendant Roy Simmons to the stand,” the prosecutor said harshly. Roy grabbed the glass of water that was on his table and walked up to the stand and stood there, very obviously confused and lost.
“So, Roy, where were you on the night of the murder?” The prosecutor asked.
“I uhm... I don’t know… I can’t remember,” Roy said unsurely, as he felt the eyes of the judge, the people, and the jury on him.
“You don’t remember huh… how convenient,” the prosecutor replied smirking.
“I really don’t, I swear, I was in an accident when I got brought in, and I had a concussion. I could not even remember my own name, let alone this crime that everyone keeps telling me I committed,” Roy replied, feeling irritated, as his head began to hurt, and felt clouded.
“That sounds exactly like what somebody who was guilty and had absolutely no better excuse would say. You bumped your head and now you don’t remember anything, how convenient,” The prosecutor replied harshly.
“You want proof that I can’t remember anything; well, I can’t give it!!! The doctors know I had a concussion, and ever since that, I don’t remember anyone or anything that is involved with my life! Whether you believe it or not, that is your choice. I am under the same oath you are, to tell the truth and nothing but the truth, and I can truthfully say to you, that I DON’T REMEMBER ANYTHING!!!” Roy shouted frustrated as his head pained even more.
“You need to calm down now!” The judge shouted back at Roy.
“I apologize for getting tense, but with all due respect your honor, I feel very unwell, and really believe that it is not fair for me to have to be here right now. I do not feel fit to be here, would you please consider postponing the trial?” Roy asked as he felt the room beginning to spin in circles.
“Your honor! You cannot believe that the defendant truly is unwell! He obviously wants to postpone his sentencing!” The prosecutor said angrily.
“He is right, I cannot just postpone the case because you don’t feel well,” The judge replied.
“I under-under-stand,” Roy stuttered, right before he fainted.
“Oh, my goodness! See what you did to my client! He said he was not feeling well, and you still forced him to be here! I mean he had a concussion yesterday and should be resting!” The defendant’s lawyer said upset. Some police were about to rush over, when the fire alarm went off, and everybody ran for the exits. During the chaos, a person in a hood ran up to Roy’s figure, picked him up, and went out a side exit. The police officers could not make it through the crowd in time to stop this person from getting away with Roy.
Roy awoke to find himself in the back seat of a car, that was busy driving on a long windy road along mountains that were covered in snow. He was completely confused, and trying to figure out who the driver was, which was extremely difficult, considering the fact that the driver was wearing a hood.
“Roy, good to see you are finally awake,” The driver said chuckling.
“Where am I? Who are you?” Roy asked him.
“Uhm… very funny Roy… it is me, your best friend… Luke,” The driver replied nonsensically as he lifted his hood.
“Luke… uh huh… my best friend…” Roy said unsurely.
“So, it is true… you did get amnesia… I thought you were faking to try to get more time for yourself,” Luke replied concerned.
“Yeah, I am not lying! If you really are my best friend, sorry for asking this, but how do I know you are telling the truth? I mean, you slipped something in my water obviously, and then kidnapped me!” Roy asked very nervously.
“Ok, how about this, I will show you some pictures of the two of us, once we get to the cabin, then we can get back to your case,” Luke said.
“I think I would like to see those pictures now, before I go with you anywhere else,” Roy said nervously.
“Sure, here is my phone,” Luke said as he handed his phone to Roy. Roy picked up the phone, and looked through Luke’s photos, and saw multiple photos of the two of them together doing all kinds of different things, as well as some photos Luke had taken of the crime scene.
“I can’t believe I did this to somebody, Luke! You are my best friend, why did I do it?” Roy asked him.
“That’s the thing Roy, you didn’t do it,” Luke said.
“What do you mean I didn’t do it? Were you with me at the time of the murder?” Roy asked Luke.
“Well, no, but… I saw you afterwards, and you told me that it was not you, and that you were being framed. You told me that you had some evidence for it, and that you were on your way to my place, but when while you were on your way, the police started to follow you and chased you. That was when you bumped your head and got taken into custody by the police. You had a folder, but you must have dropped it when you fell or put it somewhere, I am not sure, but we have to find it!” Luke exclaimed.
“Wait… so… I am innocent, all we have to do is find the proof! This is great! I thought I was guilty, but wait… what if I was lying to you and there was no proof, or I was just covering my tracks? The police said I had a heated conversation with the victim prior,” Roy said concerned.
“I mean… you’ve never lied to me before about anything. You did have a heated conversation with the victim, but I was there for that, and you did absolutely nothing wrong. However, after we left, I noticed someone else go up to the victim! I remember! It was a guy in a black shirt, wearing blue jeans, and a red pair of Jordans, as well as a gold chain around his neck. I could not see his face though, since he was wearing sunglasses and a black cap. As we were walking away, he went over to the victim, and they left together. It must have been him!” Luke exclaimed.
“Maybe… but we need whatever evidence it was that I was bringing to you, first!” Roy said.
“True, so let’s start by checking your house! In order to do this, we have to get together the crew,” Luke said as he began to get excited.
“The crew?” Roy asked.
“Yeah! Lila is our expert at hacking devices and cameras, Josh is our lock picker, Cam is our disguise mastermind, and Julia… is well, my girlfriend who always talks us through everything using the comms,” Luke said as he texted all of them.
“Wow… we have a whole gang pretty much, you sure we did not commit this murder?” Roy asked concerned.
“Yeah dude, positive, we are all undercover CIA agents, including yourself, and I think the guy who framed you was one of the criminals we were chasing, but we will figure that out soon enough. Let’s get the crew back together again!” Luke said, feeling super excited.
“Ok, let’s do this!” Roy said with excitement in his voice. The whole crew came over to the cabin, and they spent a lot of the night planning out how they were going to break into Roy’s house, without the police catching them. It was decided that Luke would sneak into the house with Roy, and that Lila would hack all the security cameras. When midnight finally came, they got all their gear together and got in the van. Luke and Roy both wore black hoodies and black jeans. When they finally got to the house, Luke and Roy snuck into the house, through the back door, once Lila had hacked into the cameras. Once inside, they looked everywhere for any evidence. The only evidence they saw, was the chalk drawn where the body had been, and the knife inside of a sealed evidence bag on the counter. What they didn’t know however, was that they were being watched. Lila was watching the security cams, when all of a sudden, she saw another person in an all-black outfit sneaking around the house.
“Guys! You have to get out of there now! Someone else is in there!” Lila said into the comms.
“Someone else? Who would be here at this time of the night?” Luke asked into the comms.
“I don’t know, but they are not police!” Lila said nervously, as the cameras went out at that exact moment. The person skulked about the corners, getting nearer and nearer to Luke and Roy. The person had a gun in their hands and was aiming it at Luke from a distance.
“Roy Simmons and Luke Tyler, as I live and breathe, I must say how thrilled I am to see you here. I was hoping I could ruin both of your lives even more, and now you have given me the perfect opportunity to,” the person said with an excitement in his voice that would put anyone on edge.
“Who are you? Should we know you?” Luke asked, feeling confused and nervous.
“Who am I? You don’t remember? Let me remind you,” The person said as he lifted his hood, “I am Chandler Owens, the guy who you all got arrested for the murder of Howard Carter the police officer! I was innocent, which you guys figured out five years after I had already been arrested and sent to jail for the crime! I lost five years of my life to a jail cell because you couldn’t do your job! I am the one who sent Shay Hartley over to argue with you that night, then I led him to your house where I killed him and framed you! I wanted you to get a taste of your own medicine, but no, you had to escape and prove me wrong with some kind of evidence! Well, you will regret it. You thought you stopped your suffering when you escaped, but you were wrong! You only made it worse!” He said as he pulled the trigger on the gun and shot Luke.
“Luke!!” Roy yelled as he ran over to him and tried to stop the bleeding. The shot had been so perfect that it had killed Luke instantly and it was too late.
“Roy! You murdered your own friend, how could you? You are such a terrible person!” Chandler said as he used a strip of tape to wipe Roy’s fingerprints off the table and put them onto the gun.
“You… you… won’t get away with this!” Roy exclaimed.
“Oh Roy, I already have,” Chandler said as he opened the back door. When he did this however, he saw a bunch of flashing lights and heard the police sirens.
“No, you haven’t, I believe that is your ride outside!” Roy exclaimed. Lila had called the police while all of this had been going on. The police came in and cuffed Chandler. Roy had kept his phone on audio recording the whole time and had Chandler’s entire confession on video. Chandler was going to go to jail for a very long time. Roy’s name was cleared, and most of life went back to normal. Roy’s memory fully returned, and him and the crew had a funeral for Luke. They would all miss him, but they continued their work, as they knew he would have wanted.
As I said before, this is not your classic story, where the hero saves everyone. This is a story where the hero tries and succeeds in some ways and fails in others. You don’t learn from your successes; you learn from your failures. As much as I wish that Luke had survived, the truth is the truth. How would I know? Well, I am Roy Simmons, and I am still to this day a CIA agent, working to stop as many criminals as I can, for Luke, and Shay, and anyone out there who needs help.
