The bell has rung for a couple of minutes already. Olivia was running late for her psychology class. Again. 3rd time of the week.
"Oh no!" She checked the watch on her wrist and gasped. Time was slipping fast that she didn't notice that she was late for class again. Olivia quickly ran to her lockers, packed a couple of books, and rushed to her classroom, which was a couple of floors up.
"It's almost 10 minutes late!" Olivia thought. She knew that she definitely will be scolded by the strict teacher, Miss Lisney. Olivia didn't want that to happen, of course. Yet, the only thing she could do right now is to flung up the stairs, run up the classroom and make up some excuse about being late.
Olivia sprinted towards the empty hall and towards the stairs. As she ran up, catching her breath, she didn't notice a guy in the opposite direction walking down slowly and carefree. Olivia and the guy bumped, making the books Olivia holding falling down onto the stairs, even some rolled down back to the bottom. Olivia, undoubtfully, rushed down clumsily to grab back her books. However, the guy didn't care much about it and was blabbering about her.
"Hey nerd, look where you're walking!" The guy said.
"Sorry! I didn't mean to bump into you!" Olivia said, turning her head away, climbing the stairs again. She had no time to lose. Despite her pain in bumping the guy, she got to rush to her lesson before it ends.
Olivia finally rushed to the classroom and saw Miss Lisney standing right in front of the door, waiting furiously.
"You're late again! Newcomer!" Miss Lisney screamed, "you were already starting in this new school for one week, and don't tell me you're lost again!"
"No!" Olivia tried explaining, "I was...... I was hurt! I accidentally bumped into..."
"Stop using excuses! Miss!" Miss Lisney said, "get back to your seat at instinct!"
Olivia immediately steps back to her seat at the back of the room. She was glad that she had chosen that seat as she didn't need to be seen by other classmates, who laughs at her. Olivia pulled up her textbook and hid her face, hoping not to be snicked by others, like how the classmates had done before.
"Okay, there's one classmate who's absent again!" The teacher said, "We shall start out class with a communication topic." Miss Lisney shook her head, terribly mad about her class.
As Miss Lisney talked about her lectures, Olivia almost fell asleep again and again. Yet, it seems that no one thinks her lessons were hypnotic. Olivia rubbed her ankles bumped on the guy, which hurts as she almost sprained her ankle when tripping over the stairs. Olivia still couldn't hold her drowsiness towards the lecture and dozed off immediately, with her books dropped onto her head.
"You!" Miss Lisney screamed suddenly, making Olivia, who was daydreaming jumped, freaking out. Olivia thought she was going to be yelled at by Miss Lisney again until she found Miss Lisney standing at the front door pointed at a guy. And the guy wasn't any guy at school, he was the one Olivia bumped into.
"How come you're late?" Miss Lisney folded her arms, "why didn't you attend any of my classes?"
"I didn't want to," The guy said, rolling his eyes. He seems not to care a single bit, "I didn't want to attend school, too."
"Then get out, Andrew!" Miss Linsey pointed, "you need not attend any. Go get to the principal's office! Now!"
"You know it doesn't help much into calling the principal, Miss," Andrew laughed. The whole class stared in shock, about the level of craziness Andrew brought the teacher.
"Get out! If you don't want to be suspended for the year again!"
Andrew picked up his bag and walked towards the back seat, the ones next to Olivia. Olivia kind of freaked out when he found out he had chosen the seat next to her, which might be a permanent seat that lasts for the year.
'Help...' She thought to herself. Olivia wasn't that optimistic about the idea of sitting with a guy who didn't seem too friendly. Instead, he seems to be like a badass guy who likes to mess things up. Olivia hoped the class could end in the blink of her eye.
"Oh... so you're the girl who bumped into me clumsily?" Andrew slumped himself into the chair next to him and asked Olivia, "good to see you here!"
"Ya," Olivia replied, brushing him off, "what cruddy luck, huh?"
"Well, it depends how you think," Andrew laughed, "class is so boring. That's the worst luck I had for the year."
"Same here," Olivia rolled her eyes.
"I guess you didn't mean about the class," Andrew said. He knew Olivia was lying as she gave him disgusted looks, "you mean about your classmate sitting next to you."
Olivia turned around to see Andrew, who kicked back into his seat, looking at her eyes. Their eyes met as both stared at each other for a long time. For a couple of seconds, Olivia found herself seeing flickering movements in his eyes. It was a guy scolding at a woman, Olivia guessed from the loosely tied bun. Yet, the scenes were too blur. Olivia couldn't see clearly from Andrew's cornea, even she wanted to. Her curiosity couldn't resist.
"Hey! The two back there!" Chalk was thrown by Miss Lisney. She uses to accost students who didn't pay attention with the chalk around. Olivia was forced to push herself back to what happened in reality. She saw Miss Lisney staring angrily at the both of them, her hands gripping the textbook. Olivia didn't dare to move a single muscle. She was terribly afraid of what might happen next.
"You two! Stop acting flirtatious in the class! This isn't a church which holds weddings, this is a classroom for lecture!" Miss Lisney raged. The tense in the room elevated. Olivia could feel her heart beating quickly, "both of you, leave for detention for the day!"
"No!" Olivia whispered-screamed. She didn't want the teacher to ruin her plans again. Olivia could feel snickering sounds echoing the whole classroom. She couldn't help to bury her face under her thick psychology book again.
"It isn't her fault! I was the one!" Andrew suddenly jumped, answering Miss Lisney, "I was the one who chatted. And if you wanted to charge detention or something, you can count the girl's into mine!"
"You student!" Miss Lisney was so mad that her face went red, sweat bursting, "there's a detention for a month for you!"
"Whatsoever......" Andrew sat back, laying his head on the back of his chair. He didn't seem bothered by the act of the teacher, "like a teacher... Like student. You deserved that..."
Miss Lisney was so furious that she slammed the book down onto the floor. Olivia knew that things were kind of getting out of control. Predictably, Miss Lisney was in a rage. She signed out a paper clipped out from her messy folder and taped it onto his desk. It was a suspended letter.
"You know that doesn't stop me from being who I am," Andrew said. The room was full of chattering sounds about the incident.
"Again?"
"Well, he deserved that."
"Wow, two times for the year..."
"Couldn't believe how Miss Lisney could react to him."
"He kind of needs to bear these consequences."
Olivia stared at him. His facial expression still has not changed a single bit. Olivia stared closer, into his eyes. The illusion was back again. She saw a guy being tied and forced down to the ground, being tortured by a woman hitting and slamming. Perhaps she was still new here, didn't get a good night's sleep, she has only studied in this new school for a week, after all. It seems like she could never adapt to this new school.
"Leave. Leave right now." Miss Lisney slammed the table. Andrew didn't hesitate to pack his bags and leave. Before leaving, she shot an angry and dirty look onto her face. Olivia's mouth has dropped wide open seeing the whole scene.
"Guys, it's over. Let's get back to class." Miss Lisney ended the scene with a sigh.
************************
Lunchtime rolled around. Olivia placed her lunch tray at an empty corner in the cafeteria all herself. She still hadn't made any friends, all she could do was sit back at the corner, eating her sandwich while thinking the illusions she could see in Andrew's eyes. The guy. A woman. Interacting in different ways.
"Hey, you!" Andrew plopped his tray and sat next to Olivia. Yet, Olivia was still puddling in her thoughts. As she thought deeper, outlining the guy and the woman's appearance, it seems like it was the shadow of Andrew and Miss Lisney, she'd guessed using her memory.
"Is that a reason... Why Andrew hated Miss Lisney?..." Olivia blubbered to herself.
"What are you talking about?!" Andrew asked. Olivia finally got her senses back and saw Andrew sitting next to her with his lunch tray.
"Oh, hello..." Olivia freaked out seeing him. Andrew didn't seem to be a nice or polite guy. She slid back a couple of steps, hoping he could forget about the incident about the bump the lesson before, "why did you find me? How can I help you..." She tried her best to plaster a fake smile on her face, but it seems Andrew knew she was making that up unwillingly.
"Nope, I didn't need your help, girl," Andrew was still that impolite talking towards people, which made Olivia made up her mind in changing tables, just to avoid the guy.
"If you don't need my help, I have to leave," Olivia took her tray and got up, "I am sorry..."
"Wait! I just wanted to ask you something," Andrew pulled one of her chains hanging from her bag, stopping her tracks, "tell me why did you say those words!"
"What? Why?" Olivia pulled his grip away. She had enough of the guy, she didn't want to talk to him anymore, let alone seeing him for another second.
"Tell me! Tell me!" Andrew seized her back, "well... please..." his voice suddenly softened, making Olivia felt kind of sorry for him.
"Tell you what?"
"About why I hate Miss Lisney."
"How would I know? I am not a psychologist!"
"You said you understood, don't you?"
"I just guessed for random," Olivia said, "no offense." She took her tray and decided to leave the weirdo all alone.
"Wait... Hang on..." Andrew's voice softened, "please..."
Olivia stared at him. Illusions formed again. This time she could see through his eyes clearly. It was really Miss Lisney and Andrew, all in a classroom. Andrew, who was holding a stack of papers threw that at her. Snow white papers with red-ball pen marks were scattered everywhere. Andrew pointed at Miss Lisney, scolding so hard that his face went bright red. He then grabbed the chair and banged onto the floor, slammed his fist onto the teacher's table, making Miss Lisney rage.
"Hey! Hey!" Andrew said, "are you... alright?"
"No..." Olivia answered honestly, "I think I am seeing hallucinations in your eyes... That's why I knew... I knew that why you are mad at Miss Lisney, and vise versa."
"You see hallucinations? What?"
"I am being honest," Olivia sighed, sat down next to Andrew, and placed her tray, "I saw them through your eyes. They told me things, like stories..."
"No way!"
"You were scolding Miss Lisney, throwing papers, making her angry, right?"
"That isn't the whole story," Andrew shook his head and lowered, "why did everyone only know this part? Didn't they think students could also be innocent?" He was so mad that he covers his face, didn't want to accept the horrible fact.
"I knew the truth, but I just guess through the illusion I saw," Olivia answered him, "Miss Lisney scold you back, right?"
"This isn't the precise story..." Andrew said disappointingly, "that's why no one stood up for me... No one knew, except for me and Miss Lisney..."
"Then let me see the truth, with my eyes..." Olivia shifted her head and look right through Andrew's eyes, seeing the illusion forming into a picture itself. This time it was Miss Lisney being mad. She pushed the table, making the books and notes fall. Andrew yelled furiously, pointing at her. Yet, Miss Lisney didn't feel fear. She went outside the picture and at the next second, a guy, who was the principal at the new school, has come. He was holding a bunch of papers, and soon both of them were scolding them, pointing at Andrew, flipping over tables and chairs. Soon after, the principal shoved Andrew a slip of paper, which made Andrew begged. Later, Olivia found the picture in his eyes were tears.
"You see anything silly again?" Andrew asked.
"Nope, the principal shoved a paper and both end up scolding back at you, right?"
"Why...?" Andrew was kind of shocked when he heard that, but later depressed, "you sure you could see things in my eyes."
"It's see through your eyes. I know what you're thinking about the incident," Olivia said, biting her lip, "I hope I didn't miss the details. I didn't make that up."
"I know..." Andrew said, "you really know what happened. Even though you simplified things."
"Yeah, "Olivia smiled, "what's the story then?"
"I knew that Miss Lisney was leaking answers to the elite students. I knew that. I heard every single word. I recorded down and borrowed the elite students' papers. That proved me right and I confronted Miss Lisney and told her I was so disappointed at such a teacher who earns dishonest money that I told her to stop and accosted her by telling the principal. Sadly, I didn't know that she had made her move before I could do anything. She ruined my evidence and told the principal I had been disturbing the class. That's why I did that as an act of revenge."
"So that's why you act that mean at school," Olivia finally knew the reason behind," but I'm gonna stand on your side. That's because she had humiliated me in front of the classmates as I am new."
"Oh, that was how Miss Lisney acted to different types of people," Andrew said," thanks anyway, what's your name?"
"Olivia..."
"Thanks, Olivia..." Andrew laughed, "I didn't know the only one who trusted me was a new girl."
"Need not," Olivia smiled, "I have a great plan of how Miss Lisney could get a taste of her own medicine."
****************************
"Olivia, you sure?"
"You sure the evidence is placed in her lockers, right?"
"Yes."
"Back to plan then," Olivia looked behind at Andrew. Olivia could see through his eyes again. The blue color of his cornea faded, shining out Andrew hiding behind the lockers, not making a move. A woman appeared. Miss Lisney walked closer, he didn't dare to move a muscle. He closed his eyes until he peered her shadow left. Olivia knew he was actually too nervous to make an act. From seeing through his eyes until seeing him right behind, knees wobbling.
"Are you nervous?" Olivia asked, "we could change parts."
"No! Definitely not!" Andrew plastered a brave face, "I had already seen myself pulling out the evidence I had got and show to the principal, and then Miss Lisney is gone for good!"
"I know you are lying..." Olivia said, " your eyes betray you again."
"I knew that... was true..."
"What is true?"
"People who had a deep kindness could see through others, not because they are smart because they are kind-hearted and has a sympathetic heart."
"Oh... Is that a compliment for me...?"
"You knew it."
Olivia turned and smiled as both sneaked to the back of the teacher's lockers and hid nearby, waiting for Miss Lisney to open the lock.
"Do you know another fact," Olivia asked Andrew back, "kind of related to psychology? I guess..."
"I never listened to her lessons after the fight..."
"When people had huge crushes on each other, try looking into your crushes' eyes. Not only they will tremble, but they would also see an illusion in their eyes," Olivia explained, "that's why if you loved someone, you'd wished to be close to them, and thus seeing yourselves in your crushes' eyes meant you loved someone, you are close to seeing yourself in them."
"I saw my handsome reflected in your eyes," Andrew shrugged.
"I guess not for me who has hallucinated for the class before," Olivia chuckled.
"Well, you could try again..." Andrew bent down and stare at her closer, this time the tables has turned. The hallucinations all disappeared and she saw her reflection in his stunning blue eyes. While for Andrew, he saw a blinking flash of a girl, which was Olivia, trying to end her life. After a couple of seconds, her brown eyes finally shown back their own natural color.
"I have saw mine this time..." Olivia answered.
"I had seen blinking signs of you trying to seek..."
"Shhhhh..." Olivia shushed him, "it's a long story."
"You could tell me or I could use my eyes."
The sounds of high heels clicking filled the quiet hall. Andrew pulled Olivia back into a corner, he saw Miss Lisney walking towards the lockers, along with her books.
"I could tell you what you're thinking, well for later." He said, "but now it's our time for revenge."
