I can never understand how the mind of a Genius works. The moment I pumped into you and had you in my sight, I knew instantly that I hit a jak pot, because now I can ask you about anything about being smart.
You came from a military family in England to Canada at the age of two. Ever since you were here, you had never thought of a life without the Army, as both of your parents were Veterans who served in world war two as communication technician and army officer. Ever since you were here, you helped in the farm as a farmer during your summer or when you were not going to school. You would look at adults fixing farm machines and you learned from them. You would just stare at them and asked them questions as they went along. I wonder what was he thinking while he was watching all these complicated stuffs. Well, mechanical stuffs are complicated to me at least. This little boy must have inherited the engineer genes from his parents, he built his first radio at the age of 12. I am not sure how he worked in the farm, in a tiny valley, with scarce resources of knowledge, he could manage to have all these creations and inventions in which all the ideas and imaginations originated from his brain. When I asked you, “what was it like in your childhood?” you often say, you just laughed at yourself a lot, and never stop learning new stuffs, always keep your curiosity about everything and never give up. Then, you graduated from high school, applied to RCMP but got rejected because they had a requirement that the candidates must be six feet tall. You then join the CAF as a cadet soldier. In the camp, you said it was very interesting to learn about Art and Science and being physically fit at the same time. Most importantly, it was a paid job, you said. You have always been a conservative person you say, but I think you are more like a flexible person who can adjust to any situation. In school you learned how to drive an airplane and took the license while you were coaching high school students at college. You are always a dynamic energy ball with endless passion and happiness. I am not sure if you had stress at all, you said you had always been doing what you liked, and what you had passion about. This made your journey very exciting and free.
After graduating from college, you started your soldier career in an exciting way. You were assigned to multiple destinations all over the world: Afghanistan, Egypt, Syria and Pakistan. You were working for the United Nations, from a young Lieutenant to a Major, you have been in the Army for 30 years. Just imagine, everyone is stuck in the highway while they were going to work, but this Man, he drove airplane and tanks to go to work. You often say, it was very intense when you past those area such as Gaza Strip because they were all armed with guns and they were always wanting to start wars with their neighbour. The purpose and mission of United Nation is to keep peace. I sent you some war movies from America and asked you if those war scenes were real, you can always tell me the reality because you had been working in combat zones for so many years with so many experience. “As a peacekeeper, we were always being shot at, barely shot them back, my Darling,” you said. It made me feel hurt when I know this incredible Man sacrificed so much for the liberation and peace of our Nation.
They say, the definition of Genius, it is one percent inspiration and ninety nine percent perspiration. I kind of agree with this, because you are the perfect example in being so devoted at his passion and career. You have always been an inspiration for me to be great and be good.
You have always been very humble about your accomplishment in the Army. You studied psychology because you wanted to know how to herd hundreds of soldiers well without putting them in a position that risking their lives. They were definitely in a good hand in the Army, because you are just such a responsible, courageous and empathetic leader who is so determined to do things right and good. At the age of retirement, you reluctantly resigned from the Army but still keep your contacts with your Army buddies. I can tell the Army, it is your true love.
After the Army, you began so many tech-savvy positions. You became a College Professor teaching computer programming and codings. Meanwhile, you studied and prepared one year for opening your own Apple store in which you were having multiple Apple Genius who were working for you. Then you started your boat project which you said, you spent 240 hours on building this boat and you enjoy sailing in it every summer on the lake. You also enrolled in the city’s Humane Society to become a volunteer, helping hurt or lost dogs and cats in the city and helped them finding shelters. Nevertheless, you then registered as a first responder in the city, being an on-call police officer responding to all the emergencies happening in the city. The coolest thing is, you even managed to become a Military Judge in the Department of National Defense. You know how surprising that was when I looked at the Man in front of me, who always dressed so casual that I often wonder if this guys was a Manager from a convenient store. This Man is always smiling and always talking in gentle but sound voice. His words are always clear and concise, straight-forward but prudent. You said, being positive and optimistic, it is the key attribute of a great leader. I totally agree with you.
Maybe, this is what a Genius should be like.
