Coming of Age High School Fiction

The name's Jason Pieters. They call me Lucky. By "they" I mean mom and dad. I was born in a prestigious family, one of the wealthy-line in this district. But they don't know much about this beautiful family. I'm my parents' first child, and they almost lost me caused by severe bleeding. Luckily, mom and I survived. Sometimes, I hate having the nickname Lucky. People tend to compare me to that lucky puppy in the 101 Dalmatians called Lucky.

Well, my birth is one of the two best things that ever happened in my parents' life. Weird to be called Lucky but I have to cherish it. So, yeah. I'd rather be a good son.

When I was a toddler, I fell over a lot while walking, jumping, or running, like millions of times. But luckily, I never had to go to the hospital. Probably just some scratches. The strange thing is, I was the only child who becomes so lucky.

I have a younger brother named Joe. He was born after my third birthday wish came true. Mom and dad tried so hard to have another child after my birth, failed until I made that wish. Sick, right?

Joe was the second best thing of my parents' life. They always make sure we get our happiness, knowledge, and skills. They never restrict our friendship and love life. I love them. This is such a wonderful family. But sometimes, I want to be an asshole.

Well, of course, I'm not that bad. Just tried to be one when I was in school.

My school life was boring. As you know, I'm always lucky. I never felt the pressure, stress, or depression which usually attacks youngsters. Even if I don't study and always procrastinate, I always got good grades. I tried to neglect my school works but that didn't work. I still survived. That's why I decided to be a straight-A student, ambitious, and diligent. I found a way to be immoral, which is to be a bad boyfriend.

I had a few relationships. Six women in four years, I think that's cool enough. They didn't last long. I always broke up with the girls when I feel bored. And they'd just leave, surrender themselves to be single once again. What did I feel? Nothing. I mean, I liked them, but as the time passed, the feeling kinda went away. My relationships were really monotonous. No drama, no tragedy, no nothing. I kinda envied my friend's relationship. He experienced ups and downs. I wanted something more. I wanted my life to be like the movie scenes. I decided to be a real asshole in my seventh relationship.

Kiara, my seventh girl. I asked her out by giving her an envelope. There was a movie ticket and a simple letter inside. If she came, then she'll be my girlfriend. And, she came. Who knew that our relationship would be as normal as ever? I wouldn't expect it either. Haha.

I tried to be as bad as I could. On our 10th date, I asked her to meet up at a cafe. Yes, meet up. I didn't pick her up. We agreed to meet up. But, I became a piece of shit and went out with my friends. If she's not mad and doesn't break up with me, I'll marry her, I said to myself. And what was her response?

Kiara, on the phone with me: "Why didn't you tell me that you'll hang out with your friends? I was super worried that something might happen to you. Thank God you're okay, babe."

Like, hell? She waited for almost four hours. That's her response? Is she a girl? No, more like, is she a human? I bet anyone would get mad if they were treated like that. And before we finished the phone talk, she added, "Don't forget to let me know when you're going home. Please don't stay too late. You still have to take your friends home, you'll get sick and tired if you don't get enough sleep. Okay?"

Wow. What a girl. But I tried again, the same way. She never got mad. After a few trials, I realized that plan A failed. I didn't stop. I saved up this plan to be my last chance. And it's such a crazy plan. I didn't care what people would say. I wanted to see her reaction. Would there be any drama?

I asked my mom's friend's daughter to go on a date with me. Not a real one, just wanted to test this out. Her name's Michelle. I told her my plan, she agreed, as long as I paid for everything. Just like a real date, I know.

I told Kiara that I was home all night. I lied to her, yes. I was supposed to make everything went well, right? I hoped it'll turn out well. If she was irritated, I wouldn't have to marry her. Let's see then.

I brought Michelle out. As I guessed, the pictures of us went viral among us students. I saw some people talked shit about me, but I didn't care. I had my reasons. What about Kiara? We're getting there now.

I saw her the next day. She came to my class and said, "Who were you with last night? Why didn't you tell me? I hate it that people talk about you. You don't deserve it. I hate it, I hate them."

Wow. This girl. Is she crazy? What the hell? How can a human become as strong as that?

After that, I told her everything, not skipping one single detail. What was her reaction? She said, "I love you, deep down in my heart. I don't care what you do. As long as it makes you happy. If you really want to break up with me, I won't say no. As long as you're happy. You test me? I don't care. If you're happy, then okay. I'm grateful to have a boyfriend, or a friend, a best friend like you. You're one and only."

I married her a few years later.

The story is very well written considering your bio which states you're just starting. I think you could have added a line on how the lead was trying to change his luck and why it was in vain. The prompt makes it easy to understand but it would be better if you add few more lines on the self realization the lead has and the importance of it. Great work. Keep up the work! :))
