I was sitting on my couch reading my favorite book, Harry Potter. I became immersed in the magical world, until I heard my doorbell ring. Letting out a sigh, I got up and opened the front door. As soon as I opened the door, I came face to face with my best friend, Laura.
“Sarah!” She exclaimed as soon as she saw me. Moving through the front door, she engulfed me in a hug. “What have you been up to? I haven't seen you in a week. Wait, let me guess. You’ve spent all your time reading.”
“Why ask when you already know?” I said, answering her question with a question of my own. Without saying anything else, Laura walked over to the couch and I followed behind. As soon as I sat down beside her, she grabbed my arm and stared at me.
“We are best friends, right Sarah? And best friends help each other out, right?” i know that when she acted like this she wanted something from me.
“What do you want Laura?”
“You know me too well.” She said and then paused for a second. “Now, I need your help. I have a date tomorrow and I need you to go shopping with me and help me pick out an outfit.”
“Why me?” I asked. “Isn't there another one of your friends who would be better at giving you fashion advice?”
“I want it to be you who goes with me. I need my best friend there.'' I looked over at her to see her sticking her lip out into a pout. Her long brown hair cascaded around the sides of her head. She had large brown eyes which made her resemble a puppy, and it made it hard to say no to her.
“Who is the guy you're going on a date with?”
“Remember the guy I told you about? The one in my math class?” I nodded my head in response and she continued. “I asked him out to the movies, and he said yes!” My eyes widened in astonishment. It surprised me how she could be brave enough to ask him out. I had a hard enough time just talking to anyone. Then again, Laura is very extroverted, while I am super introverted. “So, will you go shopping with me?” I didn't want to, I don't do well in public settings and tend to avoid them at all costs. Laura is my best friend though, and she wanted my help. Making up my mind, I answered her.
“Okay.” I said. Jumping off the couch, she danced around the living room. She then grabbed my arm and pulled me up. Turning me around, she pushed me in the direction of my bedroom.
“Hurry and get ready.” I was already starting to regret my decision, but quickly got ready anyway. After getting ready, Laura grabbed my arm and pulled me outside to her car. I got into the car and closed the door behind me. I let out a gasp as my head began to hurt, and I realized that I had gotten my long blond hair stuck in the door. Laura began laughing at me and, after giving her a look, I opened the door to free my hair. She began driving, and I pulled out my phone and began reading my book from where I left off. I was beginning to become immersed in the magical world of Harry Potter once again. After a while of reading and listening to Laura sing with the songs playing on the radio, the car came to a stop. Turning off my phone, I got out of the car and walked with Laura into the mall. Linking her arm with mine, she dragged me into her favorite store. We looked all over the store and picked out dozens of different outfits. After a couple of hours of shopping, we were finally able to find a suitable outfit for her date tomorrow. Shopping for so long had mentally drained me, and I felt ready to go home. We checked out with all the items we picked out, and walked out the front door and into the mall. After a few minutes of walking I suddenly heard someone shout my friend's name.
“Laura!” I looked up and saw a group of five people walking towards us. I became rigid, not wanting to have to talk to so many people I don't know. Laura had left my side and walked to the people who called her name. I walked closer to them and I heard someone ask her.
“Who is that? The girl you're with?” I looked over and saw a girl with short red hair smiling at me. Turning her head to look at me, Laura grabbed my arm and answered her question.
“This is my best friend, Sarah!” Looking at the group of people, I shyly waved at them and offered a small smile. I saw Laura look over at me out of the corner of my eye. After that she shared a few more words with the group of people before she told them goodbye. “Those are a few friends from my English class.” She explained as we walked out of the mall. “By the way, are you okay?”
“Of course. Why do you ask?” I questioned her.
“Well, I know you don't do well around other people. I just wanted to make sure you're okay.” I teared up at her response, touched by what she said. Even though our personalities were completely different, she understood me, and my feelings. That is why she is my best friend. She knows me better than anyone and can read me like a book.
“You're such a good friend!” I said to her, wrapping her up into a hug. Hugging me back she said.
“I know. I know. Just remember that the next time I make you come shopping with me.” Laughing together, we walked to the car and made our way back to my house. She then stayed at my house until her date the next day.
