Part One
"It was a dark, snowy night, Christmas Eve they called it ...a night I'll never be able to forget."
The street lights were dimly lit as I wandered around the sidewalks. I was beginning to lose hope. I'd be out in the wind and snow for days with nothing to eat. Belly growling, I took one last look up and down the sidewalk, my feet slightly sticking to the frozen concrete, nose red and sore from the wind, when she scooped me up.
"Look Honey, I found this little guy outside on the sidewalk." she said as she carried me through the front door. The lady gently put me down in a chair in their nice, warm, living room. A man was sitting by the fireplace reading a newspaper. He looked over his paper to great his wife and the new little critter she brought inside.
"Well, isn't he cute! I bet you where cold out there buddy, let's get you warmed up and fed." The man put his paper down and stood up. I wasn't quite sure of these people. I know of people. I've never been very skittish of them; I believe that's because of the family I use to belong to. That was before they dropped me off across town and left. No, I didn't do anything wrong. The new baby was getting itchy. So I haven't been a 'pet' in a while. I miss the warmth and love I always received from Mom. Maybe this lady will let me cuddle with her at bedtime and nap at her feet while she reads. Being out in the snow that long was so cold and lonely.
The man picked me up and carried me to the kitchen where he then placed me very nicely on the counter. This was different. My other family never let me on the counter! I perked my ears and gently waved my black and grey striped tail high in the air. The lady came over and scratched behind my ears. Purring loudly and closing my big green eyes in response to the sudden act of affection, I suddenly realized how much I loved her already.
"Make sure you get him the good saucer, Honey." The lady told the man as she continued scratching my ears. Her hair was to her shoulders. The way it was swinging ever so slightly with ever move of her arm was so exhilarating I just HAD to catch it. I reached out and grabbed her hair with two quick pats. It was satisfying to catch prey. The lady laughed and stood up. The man put the saucer down on the counter at my feet and I happily ate my out of a can meal. Much better than an out of a dumper meal. "I think it's about time for bed buddy." The lady picked me up and cradled me in her arms while I purred and watched the mans back as they took me to their bedroom.
Part Two
I was laying on my new mom's pillow, snuggled right beside her when I was awoken by the sound of the front door being broken into. The man shot up and grabbed under the bed before telling me and the lady to stay in the room. As he ran from the room I quickly chased after him, hoping to catch the end of his robe.
Fear took over my entire body at what I witnessed next. The beautiful hardwood floors of the living room in front of the fireplace was now covered in a deep red puddle. I stepped back slowly as it grew closer to my paws. Looking up, I saw a very large, round man straddling my new Dad. He was dressed in a tattered, filthy, red and white suit with a matching hat and black gloves. His boots, face and the rest of him where covered in blood and snow. Blood was spraying from Dad's body with every piercing stab of the large chefs knife the attacker plunged into his chest. The sounds the knife made as it hit bone and sliced skin is a sound Ill never forget. As I turned to make my escape back to Mom, the intruder stood up. I wasn't sticking around to find out what he looked like. Wasting no time, I took off as fast as I could back to the bedroom. Hiding under the bed, I cowered as I heard the attacker enter the room. The sound of his blood and snow-covered boots squeaking with every step he took made my body quiver with fear. "Please! Please, don't do this!" I hear Mom cry out for her life.
She didn't scream for long. Without a second thought, the intruder straddled Mom and as she tried to fight for her life, he plunged the knife with enough force to penetrate through the boxspring above my head. Fresh blood dripped from the tip of the knife onto my pink nose before it disappeared back through the newly torn mattress. Blood pooling around the puncture marks on the mattress, the knife plunges in and out repeatedly for what seemed like an eternity. When he was done, he dropped the knife to the floor, splattering the warm liquid across my paws. As he stood there looking at what he'd done to the woman he had just murdered viciously, and laughed. The sound of bells jiggling as the blood soaked Santa Clause laughed his sinister laugh was all you could hear in the once warm and comforting bedroom. A home once filled with nothing but joy, warmth, and love, now filled with the stench of blood and mutilated bodies of two lovers. I stayed cowered there until the footsteps faded. Slowly, I made my way out from under the bed. A trail of snow and bloody footprints was what I was met with. I didn't want to look at Mom. I needed to flee as fast as I could from this horror house. Darting from the room, also not looking at Dad, I ran through the open door, right back into the cold and lonely darkness.
