Nothing.
All that I had done, was for nothing.
Hi, I’m Lena Sheath.
Also known as the “villain”, Volteric.
I am currently bleeding out in the Atlantic Ocean.
Would I have gone through all that trouble if I knew I would be foiled?
No.
But that’s just how the story goes. I should’ve seen it coming.
The big scary villain goes through so much to achieve the one goal they have, only to end up being shot down.
Forgotten.
Failed.
I broke through the ice cold water with a gasp. Damn that had been a long fall.
I slowly swam through the water, all of today’s events running through my mind…
“I’ve done it!!” I exclaimed. “I finally won!!”
I cackled in delight before clearing my throat, man I hated my laugh.
“Soon Ellie,” I stroked my sister’s face in the frame, tearing up at the sight of her smile.
“Soon you’ll be okay-”
“VOLTERIC!!!” Aw man, so close.
I turned slowly to face the city pride and joy, Davin Dawker, also known as the infamous Thunderman.
“Not now Thunderhead,” I flicked back my hair. I was not dealing with my ex today.
“And seriously D, lose the villain name. I know you, you know me, let’s talk this out and then I can get back to what I was doing-”
“YOU ROBBED THE CITY!!!”
“Ugh, you’re still hung up on that?”
“YOU DESTROYED THE UNIVERSITIES!!”
“They didn’t know what they were doing anyway-”
“NOW YOU’VE TAKEN ALL OF THE ELECTRICITY OF THE CITY AND FOR WHAT??!!”
“You wouldn’t understand,” I narrowed my eyes. Of course D wouldn’t understand. No matter how hard I tried to justify my actions.
He floated down from his space in the sky, removing his mask and advancing towards me.
I glared at him, hiding Ellie’s photo behind my back.
He sighed, stopping a couple of feet from me.
“I just don’t get it. Why? Why be selfish? Why be a villain? Why leave me?”
I shook my head at his words, of course he’d be the one to blame me for our relationship.
“D, you were the one who wanted to break up, and for the record I’m not being selfish. I have a goal in mind and I’m not afraid to achieve it. No matter what it takes-”
“No, Lena no!” Davin grabbed my shoulders and I leaned away from him, uncomfortable. Was he even listening to me?
“Davin what are you-”
“You’re speaking like a villain, I don’t wanna fight you!” He pulled me into a hug, making me gasp in shock.
“But I will if you don’t do what I tell you to,” He hissed in my ear as I watched the camera crew he had brought into my lair capture the touching moment, unable to see the dagger he had pressed into my spine.
“You don’t have to do this,” I growled before freezing as the blade poked harder into my back.
“No, you don’t have to do this. You’re gonna do exactly as I say or so help me Lena,” He glanced down at the frame in my hand freezing.
“Did you do it for Ellie?”
I felt tears spark in my eyes and I held my breath. I couldn’t let the cameras see me like this, I had a reputation, I had power. I wouldn't let him throw away all that I had worked for.
“You know that she’s long gone, nothing you do will save her-” Electricity zapped through my hands, hitting Davin and making him release me. My hair waved angrily and I dropped Ellie's picture, cracking the glass.
“SHUT UP!!!” I screamed. I blasted bolts of lightning towards the camera crew, making them scream. Davin jumped in front of them, yelling for the people to get to safety.
“VOLTERIC, YOUR REIGN OF TERROR IS OVER!! I TRIED TO SPEAK WITH YOU CIVILIZED, AND WHAT DO I GET FROM A VILLAIN??!!” The people screamed in terror as they ran from the scene, cameras still recording my demise.
Thunderman placed his mask back upon his face a snarled, “You get stabbed in the back,”
I gasped as the knife he held to my back moments before, shot into my body. I spun around to see Lydia Hoffmeier, also known as the Psychic Wonder, who had launched the weapon into me.
Thunderman rammed into my side while I stood frozen and launched me into the ground.
I gasped for air and shook angrily as I saw Lydia begin taking back all I had done for Ellie. The money, the electricity, the medical supplies.
“It’s people like you who need to be stopped,” I wheezed to Thunderman before he punched me across the face.
“No Lena, it’s you who needed to be stopped,” He blasted through the ceiling of my lair, shooting up into the sky again.
I screamed and held onto Davin's arm holding me by my neck.
"Davin don't let me go please! I have to help Ellie!"
“Goodbye Lena,” He narrowed his eyes before letting go of me.
…I was still bleeding but the water was so cold I couldn’t feel the pain. I thought of Ellie, still in the hospital. Heart monitor slowing, beeping growing quieter. I let out a cry as I pulled myself onto a buoy.
Who was I kidding.
I was back to where I had started.
Thunderman’s knife was still stabbed into my back, betrayal still stinging.
The liar. Playing “hero”.
What hero would suck the life out of a ten year old girl to get at his ex?
Thunderman would.
And they all believed him.
Everything I had done to show the people the truth of their “hero” was gone.
The hero always gets what they want.
Ellie would die later that day, I would be the one who stole her body in the news.
I buried her by the sea under her favorite spot, with flowers in her hair and her little toy shark.
She had been my everything.
She never wanted me to be a villain, sometimes I worry that I made her condition worse when she saw picture after picture of “Volteric”.
She really did believe in the good of Thunderman.
Now what am I supposed to do now?
To all in the city, I’m dead.
To Thunderman and his goons, I’m dead.
I really am at square one huh?
But that means, I get to start over.
Do I want that?
...
Very well.
I am Anella Volt, also known as the vigilante, Shocker.
I go into the city, revealing the truth of our corrupt town.
Some call me a villain, others call me a hero.
I love the beach. I have no family.
And I am gonna bring Thunderman down.
