Friendship High School

Hi, If you don’t know me i am tori. I’m the typical introvert. I prefer to stay inside, alone, and not bothered by anyone. That is unless you happen to be that one outgoing person who managed to get in my little introvert “barrier”.

This girl was funny, talented, beautiful, and bold.. all of which are some of the many reasons I adored her. She is everything I’m not. We’ve been friends practically my whole life, we are inseparable. However, due to my introvert side I do tend to be the cause of issues in our strong yet distant friendship.

Her being the persistent extrovert she is, has managed to bring me out of my shell. Not only that, but she encourages the best for me. She motivated me when no one else couldnt. She saw the pain that no one else saw in me. She was the one person who could see behind the mask that I had created. She saw a diamond (beauty) in me when I couldn’t see a dime.

We have had our ups and downs with each other but somehow at the end of the day we come together as if the laces had finally been tied again (if that makes sense to y’all).

The words I’m saying can barely match the reality of the truth behind this bond. There are plenty of stories and non forgettable moments that we have created together that I wish to share one day. For now though, I wish to cherish them as our little “secrets”, as our thing. I will however share a few that can’t go without being known.

“We were young teenagers that chose not to know right from wrong. The fun and delight that was brought to us upon the fear and adrenaline of being caught doing anything wrong thrilled us. It was the highlights to our get togethers. We are the friend version of Bonnie and Clyde, that’s my ride or die. Neither one of us was the leader, we both had our equal share of bad ideas. We smoked together, drunk together, pierced each other, got secret tattoos, and would always sneak and plan stuff together. One idea that stuck out to us was stealing the family car late at night. The first couple of nights we did this turned out a success. We took joy rides around the city, hung with our friends, just all the basic stuff you would normally do with a car. Butttt it came with the occasional oopsie. Things like almost wrecking, almost not making it back on time, giving rides to strangers (yea we know, we were dumb for that), attempting to race (only to find out it is a cop), the list could honestly go on. Yet because we were together we saw nothing wrong in it, it was fun, if we got caught we got caught together. Like in most stories, the good eventually comes to an end. No sorry, it’s not a horrible ending like it seems. We took the car one night a little early thinking nobody would notice. Out and enjoying our time like usual, we both suddenly get this feeling that we should head back. Neither of us said anything the whole ride home, those silent 10 minutes felt like an eternity. As the time to arriving at the house was nearing this feeling of dread fell solemnly among the two of us. We knew then that something wasn’t right. Of course, we pushed it off and said that it was just our anxiety messing with us. We park the car in the original location and gather our stuff to bring inside. As we unlock the door and open it, we are greeted with a tall figure. Since it was dark I couldn’t see at first, but then my eyes adjusted. I wish they didn’t. There standing in front of us was the furious owner of the vehicle which we have been taking every night. Both of us went to our room and attempted to go on with our night as if nothing happened, both secretly praying that we wouldn’t get snitched on. After not getting caught we decided not to take the car again.

“There was a time we decided to go walking in the middle of the night, it was pitch black out. On the long walk we were confronted by two crack heads who tried to smoke with us and get sexually involved. The whole walk home we were paranoid“

“One day we decided to link with some random guy we recently started becoming close with. This decision lead to us being in the middle of the projects in a real life trap house. Drugs and guns everywhere. No it’s not a big deal but considering we were only 15 ups the momentum of the moment.”

A time I will never forget is when I was hanging with people I shouldn’t, and some things happened. I had called her just to be consoled and for a second I forgot I had an outgoing best friend. I’m going to save most of the details because it’s rather personal.

Long story short -

“the people who caused the bad things happened to be the ones to drop me off at her house. I told her to be smart and just not say anything (me being an introvert does my best to avoid confrontation at all cost) however she did try. That only lasted a few seconds, she had to say what was on her mind. She wasnt going to let them get away with what they did. She proceeded to tell them off, stating she wanted to fight, and calling them all kinds of things. She saw that they were armed but didn’t care, she just continued ranting and raging. I had to pry her from their car. After they left she realized what she did. The rest of the day at her house, we sat worried and anxious constantly checking the windows hoping they wouldnt come back to cause more problem. Luckily they didn’t”.

Since I’m an introvert I’m not used to all of this, but luckily I have a best friend who is an extrovert that brought excitement in to my life.

Moral of the story, if you’re a Introvert be open and willing to change. You never know, that unusual decision you make could be the best one you ever chose. I know that when I did, I met someone special most similar to who I would consider my guardian angel.
