The life of Betrayal, Treason and Deceit

Written in response to: "Center your story around an important message that reaches the wrong person."

Fiction Mystery Suspense

It starts off innocently, becoming more of speculation and paranoia, then becomes panicky and uncertainty.

It gives you a knot in your stomach or may make you wish you had turned the stove off this morning, for you begin to worry about what could happen instead of what may happen.

You are hoping to divert your attention from the lump in your throat to the sweat dripping down your face from the area of your forehead, which will start to make a puddle at your feet.

You are almost ready to give up hope, the moment is making you bite your nails on both hands, and you become extremely nervous and are ready to crawl into your locker, as you hope she did receive the note that was passed to her in homeroom.

You wanted to ask her the simple question of "Will you go with me to prom?" "What if she did not get the note and someone else did?"

"How will you live this embarrassment down or show your face in school again?" Then as you round the corner, there is someone holding the note that was meant for Betty Wilder, instead in the hands of the one kid you detest, William Bolder.

You want to vanish, want to die right there in the middle of the hallway, or duck into Home Economics, if nothing else, just to not be made a fool of or poked fun at.

As you are ready to run, run far far away, someone pokes you on the shoulder, you turn to see Betty's older brother holding the note intended for Betty, being thrusted back at you, into your chest and a punch in the stomach follows.

William, or as most call him "Wild Bill", throws more punches at you while you are falling to the ground, from the first punch. "Wild Bill" says to you hatefully, "Hey you should leave my sister alone, she does not want to go to the prom with the likes of you."

Before you hit the ground, you start to stand up and throw a punch towards "Wild Bill's" face and say angrily, "Why don't we go ask her if she wants to go to prom with the likes of me?"

"Wild Bill" reaches out and grabs your arm tightly. You are both being rushed down the hallway, passing all the rooms and lockers quickly. Then you arrive at the gymnasium, the doors being open already, while the basketball team is practicing. "Will Bill" rushes to find his sister, who he spots waiting, seated over by the bleachers.

Still holding onto your arm, pulls you over to his sister, releasing his grip and you fall into the girls waiting on the bleachers. Betty is surprised to see you there, before she can ask you why, her brother then walks towards her, throwing the note at her hastily.

She then opens the note, reads it, and then blushes. She looks up at you, but her brother blocks your view. "Wild Bill" is mad at you for wanting to go to prom with his sister, and mad at her for wanting to go. This is a decisive moment for all involved.

"Wild Bill" is trying to interfere with her making the decision to go, which makes her mad at him, for interfering. Betty gets up, heads down to you, leans in and plants a long kiss on your lips, after this, whispers, "I would love to go with you to the prom." "I will call you later, so we can chat more privately." "Love you, Barry."

"Wild Bill, then runs to you, grabs you up quickly, punching you and wanting to beat you up so you will make your mind up not to go with his sister much less anyone else.

As Betty is leaving the gymnasium, she turns to say something else and sees "Wild Bill" fighting with you, which makes her run back to you and come between the two fighting.

As she reaches up to grab "Wild Bill's" arm before he can punch you again, Betty then punches fist into his face knocking him backwards, stumbling over the bleacher seats, falling.

Betty then grabs you, pulling you towards her, and helping you out of the gymnasium, into the hallway, to the infirmary. When you arrive there, someone coming out, holds the door open to let you two in. Betty hurriedly states why you are there, the nurse saying, "Oh no not again, I just bandaged his ribs up only an hour ago."

"Wild Bill" is mad and pushes the door open behind us knocking me down and pushing his sister into the front counter. Betty is knocked unconscious, and "Wild Bill" continues beating and punching on me as though he had never stopped. Then two armed guards rush in and grab "Wild Bill", tackling him and placing cuffs on his wrist.

As they raise "Wild Bill" up from the ground, he kicks them both, making them double over in pain. "Wild Bill" turns to me, rushing towards me to hurt me some more, when he meets a bed pan square in the face, which knocks him out cold.

Betty wakes up from where she was, then looks over at me, noticing that I was worse than before. The nurse reaches for the phone to call the police, Betty crawls over to make sure I am ok, and then the police arrive.

It all started over a note, asking Betty, "Would she go to the prom with me, Yes, or No?" Makes me wonder why "Wild Bill" was so angry at my asking his sister to go to prom. "Was he only being overly protective, Or was there something more hidden in his getting mad?"

I guess we may never know, for the story ends like a fairy tale that came true, yet it was set in a reality setting, and it was a great ending for two people, even if the note was never meant to get to the right person after falling into the wrong hands.
