Crime Kids Mystery

“Whoever catches the thief of America will have the grand prize of $50,000,” muttered the radio distantly. “Mom, could you turn the radio up please?” Amelia asked. “Forget it, there’s no use,” said Amelia’s elder brother Lucas. “Lots of people have been taken to the court but still, they have zero suspects,” joined in dad. “Amelia, your brother and dad may have no hope of anyone catching the thief but I think that sooner or later the thief will turn up," said mom. Amelia leaned back at her car seat looking out of the window. She didn’t need a car seat now that she was 8 and a half, but whenever she complained about it to her dad he would always make the same lame old excuse, “I’m busy!” he would say. He would have time to be on his phone or watching T.V all day but not enough time to just remove a car seat. Since dad never removed her car seat she didn’t really like to have people other than her family in the car.

“We’re here!” exclaimed mom. “Where are we?” asked Amelia. “I thought we were just visiting grandpa’s farm,” said Amelia confused. “Actually, any place beats grandpa’s farm,” said Lucas with a cheeky smile. “Does not!” exclaimed Amelia. “Grandpa’s farm is so fun! “said Amelia.  “No, we are at a singing competition,” said mom. Oh! Mom is a very great singer and she did tell them that she was going to compete in a competition, but they didn’t expect it to be today. When they all arrived to the fair there were police officers at every entry and exit. “The police officers are very worried that the thief will be stealing something today,” thought Amelia.

“Your license,” said a police officer. Dad pulled out his wallet and payed for tickets and showed the officer his driving license. “Huh, I wonder where my phone went,” said dad. “I probably just left it at home again,” he thought. When we entered there were tents everywhere! “I’m going backstage to get ready, said mom. “Can we come with you?” asked Amelia. “Sure, but only if Lucas is there to keep an eye on you.” Lucas and Amelia went through the crowd, but a lot of people were shoving their way through so it wasn’t easy. When they got backstage a lot of singers were getting their hair and makeup done.

Mom put her purse down and said, “You can go explore but don’t go to the staff room,” said mom. “Children aren’t allowed there,” warned mom. Now with that said, all Amelia could think of was going to the staff room. “This way Lucas,” said Amelia leading to the staff room. “No, we’re not allowed in this area,” murmured Lucas to himself. When they reached the staff room door it specifically had written, ‘NO CHILDREN ALLOWED!’ “We’re not allowed in here,” said Lucas whispering again. “Just a quick peek and then we will go back,” insisted Amelia. Amelia looked through one of the windows and saw jewels, diamonds, coins, cash, phones, watches and so much other valuable stuff. Amelia opened the staff room door and Lucas followed her in. “Look!” exclaimed Lucas. “Its dad’s phone he lost!” “If all this stolen stuff is here then, one of the singers must be the thief,” Amelia said. “Follow me!” said Amelia cheerfully. “Wait!” exclaimed Lucas. “The news said that this whole area had been checked with police officers.” “So?” asked Amelia. “So, if one of the police officers checked this whole area wouldn’t he have found this pile of loot?” asked Lucas.

“You’re right,” said Amelia realizing it wouldn’t be a singer. Lucas and Amelia (without telling their mom or dad) rushed to the entry and spotted a police officer. They rushed to the officer and asked, “Officer, the day you checked this area did you check the staff room?” “Yes,” replied the police officer. “Why, what happened?” “Nothing, “Amelia and Lucas replied.  Amelia and Lucas rushed back to the stage and when they were there the performance already started, which meant they had the whole area to themselves. First, Amelia checked all the singers’ dressing tables. “Sis, we know that the officers are innocent but we have to investigate this area very well,” said Lucas. “Lucas’’, said Amelia, “Why didn’t we tell the police officer about what we saw?” “If we figure who’s behind all of this we might get the grand prize.”

Amelia opened a dressing table’s drawer. Inside was a note that said:

Steal everyone who has valuable stuff while Emma is performing!

It looks like a reminder note. Amelia was very confused. She showed the note to Lucas and then he said, “Emma is mom’s name.” Amelia looked back at the desk and on top it said Trish. So, Trish was the thief! Amelia and Lucas rushed to their mom, who was still waiting for her turn. Amelia and Lucas told their mom everything. “Really?” mom asked. “Trish is performing right now!” said mom. When Trish was done performing mom, Lucas and Amelia were waiting for her. “Emma, its your turn to perform,” said Trish. “Why would you steal all that stuff?” asked mom. Trish’s face turned pale. “What stuff?” she asked trying to act innocent. “We found this note in your dressing table,” interrupted Amelia. Trish didn’t know what to do or say, so she just kept silent. “We already called the police and the mayor and the whole police force will be here any second,” said Amelia with a pleasant smile. Trish didn’t know what to do and tried to escape the fair. “Hurry catch her, she’s going to escape!” exclaimed mom. Lucas and Amelia rushed after Trish with their legs gong as fast as cheetahs, but the police officers had already caught up to her. “Everybody, please evacuate this area immediately,” said an officer in a far distant.

Trish was taken away by the police officers for questioning and when the fair was completely empty they spotted dad and were headed home but the mayor approached to their car. Everybody got out of the car. “As promised,” the mayor said, “Your $50,000.” Amelia looked at Lucas and Lucas looked back. They both felt like they had accomplished a great achievement together. “Thank you so much,” they both said at the same time. No, thank you,” replied the mayor. “Your welcome, but it wasn’t easy it felt like the plot was keep on thickening,” replied Lucas.
