Sad

It was summer break the year 1983,  Jared was listening to “The Cure'' on his boombox. The hot summer days, everyone eating ice cream, jumping in the pool and hanging out with friends. Jared was thinking of what to do before school starts as he was thinking he felt itchy.

What should I do for summer break? Ooh, maybe I can try to build a treehouse with my dad. Ouch, why is my harm red? It feels so itchy. Oh well, what time is it?  It's getting late so I better head home.

Jared finally got home, sat down on the couch, grabbing a nice cold coke. His mom walks in the room and asks what’s on your arm.

Hi mom. Hi Jared, how was your day? It was good and yours. It was good too! What’s on your arm? I don’t know if I think something bit me. Oh okay, well it doesn't like you got a bite. Are you hungry because I made tacos for dinner? Ooh, yes I’m starving.

Dad. Dad. Dad. Where are you? Over here in the garage. Okay coming… dad I wanted to ask you if you wanted to build a treehouse, just me and you. Okay, yes my boy we get to spend some father and son time, I like the sound of that, now where do we start. Yes! Thank you so much dad.

As they were building the treehouse Jared dad asked what was happening to his arm and his face.

Son.

Yes Dad.

What is happening with your arm and your face. It has red patches.

I don’t know but it feels like it's burning and itchy.

I think you should go to the doctor’s.

No I’m fine, said Jared.

Now let's finish this treehouse.

So they continued building the treehouse.

The nice hot summer days, hard working days for Jared and his dad, pouring sweat, grinding wood, hammering nails, hard hours of work in the sun. Then all of soden Jared was turning pale as hours went by,  Jared’s dad was passing by Jared, Jared passed out, slowly telling his dad, I cant breath take me to the doctor. Jared was pouring in sweat, face full of red patches. He had the skin of a lizard, slowly pelling away as he was working on the treehouse.

Good job son, keep up the good work, you might become a construction worker. Thanks dad, I will one day. Both laughing. They both continue working. Dad, Dad, I can't breath. Jared Dad couldn’t hear him. Dad, I. Jared couldn’t finish what he was going to say.

Oh my god. What happened? Honey come here, now Jared passed out. Jared’s parents rushed him to the doctors. As they were on their way to the emergency room, Jared was opening and closing his eyes slowly and repeatedly saying, I can’t breathe, red patches all over his skin peeling away like if he was burned.

They finally got to the emergency room. Jared had a seizure while they were waiting in the waiting room.

What’s taking them so long. Jared’s dad said. I don’t know. Jared’s mom said. I’m going to speak to nurses. Jared’s dad said. Then Jared had a seizure. The nurses took him in, they were checking his heart level. The doctor came in the room and told Jared's parents what was wrong with him.

Hello, are you guys Jared’s parents?

Yes where are.

Okay well, my name is Doctor Young. Jared has a severe sun allergy, Which means he cannot be in the sun however if he is in the sun we would have to give him medication for it, but it's better for him not to be on the sun because the medication will damage his brain.

Jared woke up.

Dad, where am I. What happened?

Hello Jared, you are in the doctor's. My name is Doctor Young. You have a severe sun allergy. Which I mean you cannot be in the sun any more.

Which means I cannot hang out with my friends or finish building that treehouse that I was going to build with my dad.

Yes Jared I'm sorry to say but yes.

Jared was crying and crying.

Jared's parents walked in the room and hugged him and said I'm sorry but if we gave you the medication it would have given you brain damage you would never be able to walk ever again speak or write.

Jared was crying and said to his parents okay I guess I'll never see my friends ever again and never continue the treehouse that I was going to make with my dad.

The doctor gave him a special lotion so it wouldn't prevent him from getting burnt from the Sun.

Jared locked himself in the room and cried all alone. His childhood was ruined and never able to speak with his friends, go to school, ride bikes and eat ice cream with his friends. Jared was devastated. As days passed by his parents tried to give him the best things possible but he just locked himself away from the world and never spoke to anyone, Jared’s parents tried to give him his favorite foods but he didn't want them.

The summer days have passed by, everyone is having fun eating ice cream, playing their favorite songs on the boombox,  Jared was watching them outside the window those summer days pass by into winter.

Jared went back to the doctors for some treatment. The doctor said  do not go outside even though it's turning into winter you can still get some skin peeled off.

Jared's birthday was coming up in two weeks. Usually Jared would be excited but this time he wasn’t. Jared finally opened his bedroom door and got up from his bed and told his parents I'm not fine. I want to have a normal life. I want to spend some time with my friends and go outside and ride on my bike. I want to be like a normal kid.

Jared’s  parents told him yes you will one day just keep doing your treatment you get there soon I promise.  It was Jared's birthday he was happy that day he got to spend some quality time with his parents as days pass by Jared was getting better, better and better then he went back to the doctor's office the doctor told them you are cured from your sun allergy you do not have to take your lotion medication anymore but do be careful if you see some sun allergy on your skin please come back we will clear are you again.

Jared was finally happy. He went to his friends, he went to school, spent time on his bike and ate ice cream out in the sun like a normal kid.
