On the couple's day, a couple decides to celebrate their love for each other in a famous restaurant. It just received a good, no, fantastic review from an equally famous review writer. There was really no reason that they shouldn't find themselves here after five lovely years with each other. Matilda and Jerimiah have been together before that too but that's not the details we should be worrying about.
They just arrive in front of this famous restaurant, and they excitedly walk to the entrance. Jeremiah holds the door against his lean build and waves his hand near his abdomen to welcome his woman: Matilda. She is about the prettiest woman you could find in the eyes of Jeremiah. She prides herself on living without a routine, wearing no makeup, and embracing her natural beauty. Yet, she has a fondness for exoticism.
Her hair is bright, dyed red. She sometimes likes to put in colored contacts. She has cute tattoos over her forearms and chest. And piercings that made her look fierce. She would remind everyone else of an emo ragdoll left behind in a thrift store.
Jeremiah kept a softer exterior. He had a gentle demeanor that gave off the impression of an older brother. Well, he is one to six younger siblings but that symbiotic consideration carried through to the rest of his relationships. He kept himself clean and handsome. He enjoys laughing and pampering everyone. He's sweet to everyone.
Somehow, he fell in love with Matilda and after five long years spent with her, he would pray to change this woman's life with this Valentine's dinner.
"Welcome in," the concierge greeted with a plastered smile.
The couple mimicked this action out of politeness. The pristine woman led them into a corner table. As they took their seats the woman bowed slightly with the same smile.
"A waiter will be with you shortly. In the meantime, please review our drink menu. I'm sure you'll find it handsome." Matilda continued to smile at the concierge but was uncomfortable with the practiced speech.
She turned to Jeremiah and frowned slightly. "Baby, you didn't have to do all of this!"
Jeremiah looked at her awkwardness. He crept his hand over the table and clasped it around hers. He pulled the hand closer to his chest. A small sigh left his lungs as he captured her eyes in his own. He caught the half-lidded apology of his beloved. She had a bad day last week and took it out on him. She didn't do anything that bad and he had already forgiven her.
Just as he’s about to open his mouth, a waitress comes to the table cutting him off.
She bows, “Sorry to interrupt. These are our menus and our specials are currently falling on desserts.”
She carefully moved a menu in front of each other the table’s habitants. A smile slid gracefully onto her lips as she bowed and gave her last apology before her departure.
The couple wasted no time in pacing through the menu, quickly deciding that their dinner should be kept light for further fun in the evening. Jeremiah settled into the idea of having a small portion of pasta. Matilda decided she wanted a salad. After the waiter came back the rest of their quiet, supposedly romantic dinner sprinted by. They were only halfway through with their meals when Jerimiah grabbed Matilda’s hand once again.
Instantly, the restaurants atmosphere halted at the motion. The lights felt like they dimmed a bit to put the couple in the center of attention even though they were farthest from it at first. Jeremiah got up from the table and reached his other palm into his pocket as he bent down on one knee in front of his lover.
People start to awe and ooh. Some even start getting up and trying to pile up around the two. Matilda feels something bubbling inside her. She places a light hand over her stomach to try and keep it down at least until she agrees to the proposal, Jeremiah starts to open his mouth, but a screech fills the anticipation.
A tall blonde woman stalks between the couple wearing a waitress uniform. She stands in between the two and directs her anger towards Jerimiah. He stands up and towers over the woman, his face glowering in confusion. He listens to her rant about him being a homewrecker, deepening his confusion. He almost wants to make a joke about proposals not being allowed in the establishment but then he sees his lover's face shattered in fear.
He thinks to himself that she isn't ready for the proposal. She wasn't ready to marry him yet. He thinks it's his fault but then the waitress between them turns and slaps her right across the face.
“Allie?” Matilda screams. She holds her face and backs away.
“So, this is why you couldn't spend Valentine's with me?” Allie screamed.
The two women went back and forth for a while with Jeremiah in the background. The yelling match helped everyone understand that the two of them, I mean Allie and Matilda, have been dating longer than Jeremiah and Matilda have. They've dated for almost two decades and Matilda apparently spent more time at her animal shelter than with her.
Most of the diners who had their phones out trying to record the proposal obviously held their cameras even higher now that the wholesome event spun into chaos. Some of the watchers whispered in distaste. Others felt sympathy for the ones who had cheated on. The other few laughed at the man’s cluelessness.
In utmost honesty, Jeremiah was trying to grasp and make some sort of acceptance of the situation. He’s never been cheated on before. He trusted Matilda with the same story she’d told the other woman. He wanted to not blame Matilda. But he couldn't blame the other woman. Her anger curdled the restaurant's ear drums enough to film three whole times so she obviously didn't know either.
In the end, he couldn't stand back anymore and wanted to leave. He grabbed the waitress’ arm and dragged her out. Leaning against the side of the restaurant’s alley, he sighed and offered Allie a cigarette.
“She’s not worth it,” she growled out.
Jeremiah nodded in agreement and laughed.
“You know what would be funnier than this?” he asked, earning a cocked grin from Allie. She hopped up from her position and nodded with a chuckle.
“If we screwed her stuff and each other?”
A small twitch caused Jerimiah’s grin to fall away. “More or less.”
They walked away from the restaurant leaving the place with a new reputation; This is where the battle of affairs happens. Even though the night was like a big conspiracy fest unfolding, Matilda still ended up with two beat-up bouquets of black roses on her doorstep. She also received two letters describing the hard and one-sided dances she'd had with both Allie and Jeremiah. They happily broke up with her and continued seeing each other as friends.
