Jessica led a simple life. Not as simple as the Amish life, but still pretty simple. She completely revolved around technology (especially cat videos) to keep her sane. She was a very romantic woman, but she'd only dated one man. The past was the past, and she was looking for some lovin'.
"Hmmm... how about poetic_jess?" Jessica asked herself as she made a Bumbl account.
One thing about Jessica was that she had a knack for poetry. She hoped to share her poems with her future lover. Jessica created her account, not knowing this was just the beginning of her romantic journey.
Jessica swiped right for practically any man with a beating heart. She was about to give up when she swiped right and found a match!!!
"Jlovesart... huh," she pondered and clicked the message button.
"Hey, J!" Jessica typed, her fingers twitching with curiosity and excitement. "I couldn't help but notice that you love art! And I can tell by your profile pic that you are quite the dashing young man."
She thought it was a little risky to send a winky face, but she did it anyway. She was quite the rebel.
"He has 24 hours to respond."
The words flashed across Jessica's eyes. She waited and waited. 23 hours passed without so much as a peep from the ever-mysterious "J".
"He must be busy," Jessica thought. "Oh, well."
She fancied herself a busy man from time to time.
Jessica was sitting in her living room, nursing a bottle of wine when suddenly her cell phone lit up. Eagerly, she checked her 'notifs'. "J" had responded! Jessica fought the urge to jump around the room in excitement as she (a bit nervously) opened Bumbl.
"Hey, beautiful," the mysterious hunk responded. "Sorry it took so long to respond to your beautifully-worded and well-put message. I was busy hosting a cocktail party on my yacht."
"Rich and artsy?" Jessica thought to herself, drooling. "Sign me up..."
"So, what do you like in a guy?" J asked.
Jessica thought about what her response would be and tried to answer honestly.
"Well, I like when he treats me nice. Buys me chocs and flowers." She typed with a cheeky grin on her face. "Then he sends me to resorts ;) call that human nature!"
"LOL." J typed. "I will do just that! Now that we've gotten to know each other a little, I might as well tell you my real name. It's Jonas."
Jessica gasped to herself, almost throwing her phone. What a coincidence! Her first and last love's name was also Jonas. Ahhh, Jonas Green...what a stud. She missed him sometimes late at night. Maybe this Jonas would fill the hole in her soul. And maybe other holes, too. ;)
After a long night of chatting, Jessica was ready to go to bed and dream about Jonas all night long. She was swooning already. That night, she dreamt about being on Jonas's yacht, drinking cocktails, and just having a good time overall.
In the morning, she awoke to a text from Jonas, the man of the hour!
"Hey hey, pretty lady." He said, "You and me. A real date. Not like how the kids do it these days. I'll pick you up at 6:00. We'll have a nice dinner at the Cheesecake Factory. Then, I'll take you to the movies. We'll see something current and niche, like Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (2024). Then, we'll go back to my place, kick our feet up, relax, and...see what happens."
Jessica squealed! She was so happy to be dipping her toe in the dating pool again. She responded as quickly as she could, her fingers shaking with joy.
"That sounds delightful, Jonas! I'll be sure to wear my skimpiest dress. Wink, wink."
Before Jessica knew it, it was 5:30. She was all dolled up and ready to party! The minutes dragged by as she waited for that dreamboat Jonas to get there. She couldn't help but ponder what he looked and acted like in the flesh.
At long last, a fancy sports car pulled up to Jessica's house. She tripped out the door. Clumsy gal!
The car door opened as her mystery man stepped out into the fading evening light. Jessica's jaw dropped. Did her eyes deceive her? No, it was him. Her former lover Jonas!
"This is just like that pina colada song!" Jessica thought to herself, giggling.
"Jessie?" Jonas asked, squinting in the dark.
"Jonas? It's me," Jessica said.
If you had told Jessica a month ago that her ex-boyfriend would be her first date in almost three years, she would have been nothing short of disappointed. But, strangely she was overjoyed! Because Jonas looked good. He had clearly been going to the gym because his pecs and forearms seemed to swell and bulge a little more than usual. Through his shirt, Jessica could see eight-pack abs! She had never been more attracted to her former love.
"Well," Jonas chuckled, scratching the back of his British neck, "This is a tad bit awkward."
"Jojo? What do you say we go on that movie date anyway? For old time's sake."
Jonas scratched his chin, his fingers brushing his stubbly beard. "Sure, why not?" He said at last, his thick Brit accent piercing the air.
Jessica hopped in the car and the two ex-lovers spent a wonderful evening together. At dinner, they caught up over lobster and expensive champagne.
"Since our big breakup, I...I have been dealing with depression, BPD, and type 1 diabetes. It's been hard. I even started a band with my two brothers, to you know, try and fill the void. But nothing patches up this broken heart like your beautiful face does, Jess. So, what's been going on with you?"
They talked and talked. The more they shared stories and laughed over bubbly drinks, the more Jessica began to realize how much she truly loved and appreciated her Joey.
115 minutes later, they arrived at Jonas's house. The movie, in Jessica's opinion, was less than spectacular. But, she didn't care. As long as she was with the man of her dreams, everything was alright. Jonas had clearly received a paycheck or two since the breakup, because his house was the size of...heh....older readers will understand this innuendo.
Once inside, the two watched the original Ghostbusters, because it didn't have any lesbians and was much, much better because of this. Halfway through the movie, Jessica reached for some caramel popcorn. Jonas happened to be reaching at the same time. Her tiny, petite hand touched his massive, veiny...hand! The two looked at each other and laughed. How awkward, yet delightful! Jessica gazed into Jonas's chocolatey eyes.
"Thank you, Jonas, for entering my life again." She whispered as Bill Murray busted on a ghost onscreen.
"No, thank you," Jonas said, clasping his hands around hers. The two shared a passionate kiss, and all was well with the world.

Good story. I'm glad they knew each other since online dating can be rather sketchy. I counted 4 "she"s in the first paragraph. Here's an example of what you can do: "romantic woman, but she'd only dated" to "romantic woman who only dated". Liked the imagery of twitching fingers. Here: "they caught up over lobster and expensive champagne. Since our big breakup, I...I have been dealing with", I got confused who was talking. I suggest you move Jess' name nearer the beginning of the sentence. You've made a good start. Keep writing.
