Blue Stars: Chapter 1:
The universe is the unknown’s home. You never know what could be out there. The twinkling lights that were held up high and hugged in constellations. To the planets and shifts in energy. To the comets that pass by. And let’s not forget the sun and the moon and its influences no matter the distance.
A hundred and twenty-four miles away, there is a planet similar to Earth named K2-18b. This is the planet where civilization lives. they are creatures with no humanity. They work and die with loyalty to not need discovery.
There is an expectation: an alien named LOTECNAL. To his dismay everyone including family and friends was distant. He was a tall fellow, with silver skin like the others and dark eyes. He had ash that hardened and covered him like clothes. He floated with bare feet. Today, he was 21 and finally had enough. He snuck away and was on his way to see what was out there.
It seemed like it was days when he reached the Milkyway. He drifted to sleep on dark nebulas until he reached Earth. He burned and crashed into a new world and his new life.
Chapter 2:
It is the early morning in a small town in Texas. The town is now a ghost’s home. It’s summer and when the sun came to play, so did the people who lived there.
Except for a woman named Lacey Roberts. She rubbed her eyes and looked at the clock. “What is it Quinn, its 3 AM?”
Her small dog looked apologetically, at her Mom, whined, and then she yawned.
“Do you want to go for a walk?” Lacey yawned.
Quinn’s ear perked up, and she woofed and scurried for her leash.
Lacey smiled as she grabbed her glasses, showered, and dressed. They were soon out the door because Quinn was getting restless.
The crisp air woke Lacey up automatically as they walked down the street.
A door opened and Lacey saw her uncle, who has raised her since her mother passed. He had a Dad body type and just his pajamas under an outdated robe. “Honey, I want you to alert,” he advised.
“I will, I promise,” she smiled.
He sighed and went inside. You have to trust her and set her free. He went back to the couch. His girlfriend of five years was like sleeping beauty upstairs and he didn’t want to wake her.
He heard a loud crash and hurried upstairs. He was relieved to find his girlfriend yawning and sitting up.
“Did you hear that?” she asked.
“I did, are you alright?” he asked.
“I am, but I don’t like being woken up,” she joked.
“I know you don’t, but I’m glad you’re OK,” he hugged her.
“When did you come in?” she asked.
“A few hours ago,” he said.
“I don’t get you, why don’t you want to sleep next to me?” she sighed.
“I just didn’t wanna wake you up,” he answered.
“Well, come back to bed them,” she smiled.
Quinn was exploring after going to the bathroom several times. She sensed something and went on a high-speed chase in a zig-zag direction.
“Quinn, what is it?” Lacey was intrigued.
The crisp air was brutal like in the winter. The path was ashy and foggy slightly. Then it got more intense making it impossible to see. Quinn slid into a crater in the area followed by Lacey. The fog cleared after a while and Lacey was stunned. “OMG, that’s a slight brunt person and he’s naked!” she panicked. How long had he been there? Is he even alive? Her training as a nurse kicked in. She checked her watch. “This person needs help ASAP,” she sighed. She performed CPR and in turn, she was covered in ash. His chest moved and she was relieved. “Thank you, Jesus!”
Rain fell and combined with the air. The only one that wasn’t shivering was the unconscious man but the ash was washed off him.
His silver skin was replaced with milk-like skin and his dark eyes were bright and now a light brown. He still had no hair on his head or body. He gulped a raindrop and it woke him up from the inside out.
Quinn and Lacey cradled him for warmth.
“We’re gonna be OK,” she believed that someone would help them soon.
It was twenty minutes later when Lacey’s uncle grew concerned. He was eating breakfast with his girlfriend. “They should be back by now,”
“Honey, you can’t find them on an empty stomach,” she sighed. “Besides you and I both know that Quinn loves her walks,”
“I know,” he said.
“You can’t protect her from everything no matter how much you want to,” she added.
“I know,” he sighed.
“Don’t be so hard on yourself, it's because you care,” she squeezed his hand.
“But you are right, I do have to let her loose,” he remembered.
“Do you want to go look for her?” she asked.
“It would ease my mind,” he said.
“Come on then,” she washed the dishes and grabbed their coats and shoes.
Her uncle soon was Quinn’s paw prints as they were led to the national park. “They have to be here,”
They followed them and came to a dent and saw them cradled up.
“I’m calling 911,” she said. The phone dialed.
“911, what is your emergency?” the operator asked.
“My niece got into an accident, I think she slipped into a crater and there’s someone there with her,” his girlfriend explained.
“Are they breathing?” the operator asked.
“Yes, they’re both breathing but its really cold out here and they’re not wearing proper clothing,” his girlfriend explained.
“There’s an ambulance on the way,” the operator said.
It didn’t take long for the EMT’s to arrive and get them to the hospital.
Lacey grumbled. She saw her family. “Where am I, what happened?”
“Honey, you’re in the hospital,” his girlfriend said.
“How did you end up in the crater?” her uncle asked.
The doctor came in. “Good to see you awake, I think you can go home tomorrow,”
“That’s a relief,” her uncle sighed.
“How is the man?” Lacey asked.
“Stable,” the doctor answered. “If he was out there another day, maybe-,” the doctor sighed.
“So, basically, I saved his life?” he asked.
“Yes,” the doctor smiled.
“That’s a relief,” Lacey said. “Can I see him?” she asked.
“He’s in recovery, how do you know him?” the doctor asked.
“I don’t,” Lacey answered.
“Well, we have a John Doe then,” the doctor sighed.
“That’s so sad,” his girlfriend said. ‘
“I really hope they find out who he is and contact his family, they are probably looking for him like crazy,” Lacey sighed.
“You did the right thing, that’s all that matters right now,” her uncle assured her.
“I know, but that doesn’t help us find his family,” Lacey replied.
“We will do everything we can Lacey,” the doctor promised.
“Thank you,” Lacey smiled.
The man grumbled. He looked around and saw that he was in a bright room. He felt a soft surface under him and behind his head. He heard voices.
“That poor man,” the nurse sighed.
He grumbled again but this time it was loud enough for her to hear.
“Doctor, he’s awake!” she squealed in urgency and relief.
The doctor rushed in. “Sir, can you hear me? What is your name? What happened to you?”
The man looked at them and took a defeated sigh. I don’t understand.
“He can’t talk,” the doctor said.
“Or maybe he doesn’t understand,” the nurse said.
“I was afraid you would say that,” the doctor sighed.
The man stormed into an erupting volcano soon. He kicked and balled his fists and then tears came. I don’t understand what’s going on. Who are you? Where am I? Where is the person that I remember? I don’t usually remember things.
“Sweetie, we are here to help you,” the nurse smiled.
He looked at the nurse and examined her face and it only made him more upset. Then he realized something. He finally had emotions and memories. He wasn’t in space. He was on Earth. He was now human. I’m finally free at long last.
Chapter 3:
The next day in the afternoon, Lacey was cleared to go home. As she packed her bags, she was stalling because all she could think of was the John Doe a few doors away.
“Lacey, come on they need the room,” his girlfriend sighed.
“I can’t leave him, not while he’s like this," she confessed.
“I know, which is why your uncle and I talked to the hospital staff and they said that you could visit,” she smiled.
“Thank you,” Lacey hugged her.
“You’re family, of course, I would consider it,” his girlfriend said.
“Can I at least say bye?” Lacey asked.
“Go on,” his girlfriend smiled and waited by the exit.
Lacey knocked and waited until a nurse let her inside the room. “Hi, I am the person who saved his life and I wanted to make sure he’s OK before I go home,”
The nurse smiled. “There’s a heroine in you,”
“I am no heroine,” Lacey flushed.
“But you are,” the nurse dismissed the comment.
“So, how’s he doing?” Lacey asked.
“Well, he’s alive but we think he can’t speak or understand us, and we still don’t know who he is,” the nurse explained.
“So, if you can’t find out who he is or his family, what happens to him?” she said.
“We’ll do everything we can,” the nurse sighed.
“Well, he looks like he needs someone… anyone, and I want it to be me who will help him,,” she said.
“Are you sure?” the nurse asked.
“I wouldn’t be here and I wouldn’t have said it if I wasn’t sure,” she answered.
“You’ve saved him twice within two days,” the nurse said.
“Its what I do,” she smiled.
“Lacey,” his girlfriend overheard everything as she waited too long by the exits and was curious about why Lacey wasn’t in and out yet.
“Please,” Lacey said.
“I’ll consider it,” the nurse said.
“Keep me posted,” Lacey left the room.
