I’ve never been too fond of people touching my possessions. I have this one room full of my life’s work collecting rare fantasy books. Each books grows bigger in size as its smell is as strong as my love for them. My bookshelves were made perfectly for each inch of the room, so my books are able to have 1cm between each to give them a perfect amount of room for their pages to be able to spread out and breath. I have people coming over to read my new book, that’s right, I’m a writer. I started writing when I was 12, I realized the way of words just called to my heart. I finally got my book published and my friends just couldn’t wait to celebrate with me. Oh my god, I’m so sorry, my name is Thomas, tom for short.
My life’s goal is to be as amazing at writing as Jk Rowling, john Flannigan, James Dashner, and so many more. These books where my whole life when I was growing up as a child. They helped me too be the person I am today, they’re not just books for me, the symbol to the gateway of how my life began. If anything happened to them, I don’t know what I would do. I always lock the door once finished in the room. Everyone was coming over at 8 and I need to start getting everything ready.
The doorbell rang as I tidied up my suit and took another big breath in as I open my door to let everyone in. the door wasn’t even open 10inches before my friends where already all over me hugging me until I couldn’t breathe, literally. I just realized how long it’d been since I saw them last. It had been 1 week. I smiled as I looked at everyone, my closest friend Clare was of course the person the hug me the fastest.
I gestured everyone towards the loungeroom in which laid out Maltesers and carrots with dip and chips galore upon the table. Everyone sat with a smile all along their faces waiting in anticipation to read my new book. Many of their eyes glared towards my book room then straight back at me. I finally realized what they really wanted and what those smiles where all about. They wanted to finally see inside my book room. They were my closest friends in the world, but I couldn’t betray the one room that never let me down.
I told them no, but they insisted on seeing in the room, they suggested for me to read my book in the room to fully make it one of the amazing books in my life. That was actually my fear, these books where my life and once my book was just one of my collections then what more is there in my life for me to put all my effort, heart and soul into. But yet again, I love my friends and they know how much that room means to me, what could go wrong? Fine, I’ll show you, that’s what I said to them. My god it was like a rave was let loose in my house. Everyone just couldn’t hold in their excitement; I don’t know why they were so excited it’s just a room filled with everything amazing in the world.
I made sure they each took their shoes off and made sure that they kept their distance from the books. I opened the door as the lock went click, everyone paced with anticipation. I opened the door as the smell of fresh books and clean air forced its way up their nose. He smiled as everyone’s eyes sparkled with amazement at the room. Their where candle placed on either side of my writing desk with a computer and projector in the middle surrounded by pictures of family and friends. The books surrounded the desk on either side of the wall as the desk was placed at the back wall leaving plenty of space for the bookshelves. The carpet was recently vacuumed and cleaned to perfection, everything about this room represented symmetry.
Their first step in the room was like seeing a baby being born into the new world, it was magical. Everyone stroked their finger against each book reading the titles. To be honest seeing their dirty food hands touching my book sent chills of discus down my spine, but I didn’t want to say anything. I had three beam bag chairs sitting next to the desk in which most of my friends shared. Everyone was laughing as some took out the books to read the back of the book for the story line. Don’t worry, I made sure they were put back in the exact same spot they were in originally.
Before I got the chance to read my book, I placed each copy in front of them so they could choose which title they liked most for my book. As I placed the last book down one of my friends stood up as they took the last sip of wine not knowing that a book had been placed in front of his feet. What happened next was a real-life horror scene. I watched as he tumbled in slow motion towards charlotte as he fell onto her causing the wine in her hand to fling into the air. I watched as it flung in the directions of my books, it landed on my maze runner collection I got from my friend for my birthday when I was 13, seeing the win soak into it felt like someone stabbed at my heart and took all the blood they could. It rebounded off the book then onto the carpet below now with the last little droplets left to fall straight onto one of my new books covers.
George helped charlotte up as no one else moved, only stood there in as much shook as I was. George didn’t realize what happened until he looked at the books then down at the carpet as he gasped in terror of what he’d done. I couldn’t move…. I couldn’t speak… I couldn’t breathe…I just did…nothing. People put down what they were holding as they ran towards the books in the shelves now taking them out and trying to fan the wine out as someone ran to the kitchen to get paper towels. Someone else ran to get some sort of cleaning supply to make sure that the wine stain wouldn’t stick. I watched as everyone moved in slow motion and sound was no longer able to reach my ears for my brain to respond. Although I did nothing, I could now feel as my face went hot as tears started to trickle down my face as I wiped them away hoping that no one would notice. I was so embarrassed; I was crying over some books. Sarah came over and gave me a hug as I still sat there on my knees as my shoulders slumped lower than I thought was possible.
Everyone placed their beam bags back as they left the other books to dry on my desk. They picked up the copies of my book as everyone was still given one as someone went around handing them out. I didn’t want my friends to feel so scared of me after this, I would hate if they thought I loved these books more than them. I wiped away the tears, straightened up my t-shirt and stood back up to face them as I forced a smile onto my face. Everyone looked confused, but at least it was better than scared. I told them it was okay; I will be upset of course but I won’t let it destroy are amazing reading day together.
I told everyone to sit back down in which they did but all leaving their wines outside which made me laugh a bit. Everyone sat back down in their beam bag chairs as they read the back covers of my book, and everyone calmed down now trying to get it back to normal.
