I opened my door and walked onto the sidewalk and looked around the burning building and explosions. The heat was intense.
"Just another average day."
I skipped along the sidewalk and looked over to the general store. Steve the owner of the store flew through the window and glass skittered all over the ground.
It crunched under my shoes as I walked over to Steve. A man in a ski mask kicked the door open holding a brown bag full of green cash.
As the man ran away, I helped Steve up off the ground.
"Mondays, right Steve?"
"You said it Leon."
Steve walked back into his store and went behind the counter. I finally arrived at my job. I put on my apron and stood behind the window. A man walked up to my window to order.
"One scoop of vanilla please."
"You got it sir, will that be in a cup or bowl?"
"Bowl, please."
I got out the tub of vanilla ice cream and a bowl. I got the scoop and scraped as much as I could onto the scoop. Then, I dropped the frozen treat into the man's bowl.
"That will be 4.50$ sir."
The man handed me the money and hopped into to his car. He didn't drive away for the next thirty minutes as I took the orders of everyone who was in the mood for ice cream or popsicles. I peered through his windshield and saw him polish off the last off his vanilla.
He threw the bowl out his window, landed a three-pointer basketball shot in the trash bin a few feet away. He put his hands on the wheel, and drove away.
I grabbed a cone and scooped myself some cotton candy ice cream and waited for my next order. I checked the menu and saw our five flavors. Vanilla, chocolate, cotton candy, sherbet, and Halloween surprise. (It's just coffee bits.) A child walked up to me.
"One sherbet cone please!"
"You got it." I said grabbing the scoop and sherbet ice cream.
A few hours later, I gave my last order of the day. I took my apron off and put it on the hook. I skipped all the way back to my house, and when I got home, I saw a woman sitting in my fine leather chair.
"I am sorry about this in advance." she said as she raised a tranquillizer pistol at me.
She pulled the trigger and I felt a sharp pain in my leg.
I looked down to see a dart sticking out of my calve.
I fell on the floor and my muscles wouldn't work. I couldn't stand up.
My vision started to blur as the strange woman started toward me. Then, everything disappeared and all that was left was black.
~ ~ ~
I woke up sliding. Sliding towards something. The edge of a helicopter! I screamed and was grabbed by the shirt from behind.
My feet were dangling off the side. I squirmed then I looked up to see the strange woman holding me in place. I slapped her hand away and stood up.
She let go and went back to flying the plane. I looked out of the plane and saw I was in Los Angelus!
"What the f@#k are you doing!"
"Transporting you somewhere safe."
"Oh so this is more safe!?!"
The buildings were tall and made of concrete and bricks. We flew towards a giant steel and concrete building with guards patrolling the top. It had a helipad. She landed the helicopter on it and stepped off.
I was more hesitant to walk onto the roof. I looked at the guards. they had two pistols each, and S.W.A.T armor. I reluctantly followed her. She strode down some stairs that lead into the building. I followed nervously.
I opened the door and gestured for me to go inside. I slowly walked inside and was flooded with red lights.
They walked behind me as I emerged out of the stairwell and into a laboratory.
I saw huge test tubes with strange silhouettes. They didn't look any kind of animal. Suddenly, something put it's full body against the glass.
It was twisted and mangled. It had dark green charred skin. It's mouth was open and it was taller than any person I had ever seen.
I screamed and jumped back away from the tube. I a man standing behind a control board with I guessed about one hundred button pushed a blue switch and the creature went limp again and slid back into the foggy water. I stood there still frozen after what I had just seen.
The man behind the dashboard just shouted.
"Sorry!"
The woman pushed me along as if nothing had happened. We headed towards a door at the end off the hall. We walked through I saw another one of the huge test tubes. I was standing on the platform to the end of it.
They kept pushing me forward until I was at the edge. I turned around and looked the woman in the eye.
Then, she stuck me with another syringe. My muscles felt weak, I started to lose my control over my own body. I fell onto the cold steel platform, unable to move. She looked at me, then kicked me off the side and into the bubbling, foggy, green water. I seemed to fall in slow motion, until there was a splash, and I was submerged. it singed me. Then...
~ ~ ~
I'd never felt so much pain in my entire life. I couldn't move or writhe. But I felt like my skin was peeling off. I felt my body twist and snap. So those creatures, they used to be people? They live in endless pain and torture, unable to move? I felt weightless, because I was. Floating painfully in that bubbling green water. Was it a chemical? Was it an acid? Could it be some kind of nuclear waste?
I didn't feel like it mattered. As I drifted slowly, slowly, slowly...
