“The Buzzing Count of Wassa Bee” By Edward J McCoul

Early in the morning, in a cozy little hive tucked high up in the cherry blossom trees of Tokyo, Wassa Bee was getting ready for his big day. As the first rays of sunlight peeked through the hive, Mother Bee gave Wassa a warm hug and whispered words of encouragement.

“Remember, my little buzzer, you are the fastest and smartest counting bee in the hive. You’ll do great today,” she said with a gentle buzz.

Wassa felt a wave of confidence wash over him. “Thanks, Mom! I’ll make you proud!” he buzzed back, giving her a quick hug before zooming off to join his classmates at school.

The bee school was abuzz with excitement. Today was the day of the grand Wasabi Counting Quiz, and every bee was determined to win the title of King of the Counting Bees. Miss Wissa, their proud teacher, was fluttering her wings in anticipation. She had planned a special trip to a nearby wasabi farm to test her students’ counting skills.

“Alright, my busy bees!” Miss Wissa called out. “Today, we’re going to the wasabi farm to see who can count the wasabi plant roots the fastest. Remember to buzz the number in my ear once you’ve finished counting. The bee with the correct number and the fastest time wins!”

The bees buzzed with excitement as they flew in formation to the farm. Upon arrival, they saw rows and rows of wasabi plants, their vibrant green leaves swaying in the breeze. The challenge seemed daunting, but Wassa was determined to retain his title.

“Alright, Wassa, you’re up first!” Miss Wissa announced.

Wassa took a deep breath, stretched his wings, and zipped past the wasabi plants in a blur. His compound eyes quickly scanned the rows, counting each root with lightning speed. Before anyone could blink, Wassa was back by Miss Wissa’s side, buzzing the number in her ear.

“Three hundred thirty-three!” he buzzed confidently.

Miss Wissa nodded with a smile and noted down Wassa’s time. One by one, the other bees took their turns, but none could match Wassa’s speed or accuracy. Some buzzed the wrong numbers, while others took too long to count. By the time the last bee had finished, it was clear who the winner was.

“Wassa Bee, you’re still the King of the Counting Bees!” Miss Wissa announced with pride.

The hive erupted in cheers, and Wassa’s fellow bees lifted him onto their shoulders, buzzing his name in celebration. Wassa beamed with joy as he looked around at his friends and teacher, feeling a deep sense of accomplishment.

Later that day, back in the hive, Mother Bee greeted Wassa with a proud smile. “I knew you could do it, my speedy little buzzer. You’re the best counting bee I’ve ever known!”

Wassa blushed and hugged his mom tightly. “Thanks, Mom. I couldn’t have done it without your support.”

As the sun set over the cherry blossom trees, the hive settled down for the night, filled with the sweet sound of buzzing. And so, Wassa Bee, the speedy counting bee, drifted off to sleep, dreaming of more counting adventures to come.

The next morning, Wassa woke up with a new sense of purpose. He was determined to help his friends become better counters too. He knew that together, they could achieve even greater things. Wassa buzzed with excitement as he flew to school.

“Good morning, Miss Wissa!” Wassa greeted his teacher with a cheerful buzz.

“Good morning, Wassa! You seem extra energetic today,” Miss Wissa observed.

“I want to help my friends become better counters, just like me!” Wassa announced.

Miss Wissa’s wings fluttered with joy. “That’s a wonderful idea, Wassa! Let’s start a counting club and you can be the leader.”

Wassa was thrilled. He spent the day organizing the club and coming up with fun activities to help his friends improve their counting skills. They played games, did practice quizzes, and even had a few friendly competitions. Wassa’s friends were eager to learn, and with Wassa’s guidance, they quickly improved.

One day, Miss Wissa announced a new challenge. “Alright, my busy bees, we’re going to have a counting relay race! You’ll work in teams and each member will have to count a different set of objects. The team with the fastest and most accurate count wins!”

The bees buzzed with excitement as they formed their teams. Wassa was the captain of his team, and he was determined to lead them to victory. The relay race was intense, with bees zipping back and forth, counting as fast as they could. Wassa’s team worked together seamlessly, each member contributing their counting skills to the effort.

In the end, Wassa’s team emerged victorious. They were awarded a special prize – a golden honeycomb, which they proudly displayed in their hive. Wassa was proud of his friends and their hard work. They had proven that by working together, they could achieve great things.

As the days went by, Wassa continued to lead the counting club, helping his friends become even better counters. They participated in more challenges and quizzes, always supporting each other and celebrating their successes. The hive was filled with a sense of camaraderie and achievement.

One day, Miss Wissa announced an exciting opportunity. “My busy bees, we’ve been invited to participate in an international counting competition! Bees from all over the world will be there, and it’s a chance for us to show off our counting skills. Who’s ready for the challenge?”

The bees buzzed with excitement. They had worked hard and were ready to take on the competition. Wassa was especially excited. He knew that this was a chance for them to prove themselves on a global stage.

The day of the competition arrived, and the bees traveled to the event with high spirits. They met bees from different hives, each with their own unique counting techniques. The competition was fierce, but Wassa and his friends gave it their all. They counted objects from different cultures and environments, showcasing their versatility and skill.

In the end, Wassa and his team emerged as the winners of the international competition. They were awarded a trophy and a special recognition for their teamwork and excellence in counting. The hive back in Tokyo celebrated their victory with a grand feast, and Wassa was hailed as a hero.

Mother Bee hugged Wassa tightly. “You’ve made us all so proud, my little buzzer. You’ve shown that with determination and teamwork, anything is possible.”

Wassa beamed with pride. “Thanks, Mom. I couldn’t have done it without the support of my friends and the hive. We’re a team, and together, we can achieve anything.”

As the hive settled down for the night, Wassa reflected on his journey. He had started as a speedy counting bee and had grown into a leader who inspired and supported his friends. He knew that this was just the beginning of many more adventures and challenges to come. With a content buzz, Wassa drifted off to sleep, ready to take on the world, one count at a time.
